I hear this Song to the first time in my Life and i must say i love it since the first few seconds, especially the Video. It is so 90's... reminds me of old times. Had to been a good Song for The Adventures of Pete and Pete.
Since it was released. That year was brutal and pushed this record/band into the deep dark caticombs of the world's new love for rock: A-HAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! JANGLE-POP!!!!! Behold
One of these days, I'll watch a music video from the past on Youtube without some boring fucker complaining about today's music scene as the top rated comment.
Just as how these bands weren't plastered all over the "mainstream" papers back in the day, THE GOOD MUSIC NOWADAYS IS SIMILARLY BURIED, maybe even to a larger extent due to the massive array of media forms now available.
Stop romanticising the past. Do some digging and find the good stuff if you are the music fan you claim to be.
@doogdoogdoog precisely. i loathe those dudes who fetishize some sort of nonexistent musical metanarrative. i notice there seems to be some gradient quantity of cranky nostalgic turdhounds relative to the quality of the music they're fond of, though; an exception for this vid
i was so lucky to be total/ly connected nerd. this band was part of my amazing/depressive youth. i got to see them three times in the bay area. total soundtrack of my miserable 20's i couldn't/wouldn't have wanted to be without you
Yeah well the 90s weren't that great either. For every Archers and Pavement there was a fucking Pearl Jam. I lived through that bullshit. The 90s were the beginning of the end.
@smithjedediah Shit, Yo la Tengo, Guided by Voices, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Pearl jam was not that bad if you listen to their late 90s stuff that no one bought. Grandaddy, Lambchop, Primus, The Geraldine Fibbers, I can go on and on with great 90s bands.
@07BSPtC I listen to all the bands you mentioned except The Geraldine Fibbers (never heard of them), even including the late-90s PJ records that nobody likes, and I still think we're living in a much better musical era now
i found this song in a pile of 45's my brother brought back from his college radio station once...i immediately loved it and got into Archers during the 90's...only to rediscover recently that they were considered a seminal indie band....i always thought they were just some strange, awesome no-name band.
@sthodson You mean a pile of 45's he liberated from a college radio station ;) No worries, I also 'liberated' the first Archers single from a college radio station. It's the single most collectible Archers record now. It's hard to price, because no one wants to get rid of their copy!
@terrormachine78 Archers records are collectibles now? Hmm...I've got Vs the Greatest of All Time Ep on vinyl and the Web in Front 7" (with the amazing "Tatiana"). Nah, I'd never part with them, even if I might never be able to listen to them again because my record player is a piece of crap (but that's cool if they're in hot demand like that. Means I knew good shit when I heard it back in '93). Archers forever!
People recognize greatness, don't worry about that.
It gives me hope in humanity, in a way. So Archers didn't become the next Britney Spears. I think it's better they didn't, although I wish them all the success (financial and otherwise) they deserve. All these years after some indie band broke up, we are still listening and talking about them. Isn't that something worthwhile?
The 90s had such great music. Where the hell has the indie scene gone? It's been hijacked by a bunch of whineass losers and poseurs. We don't have bands around like Archers of Loaf or Seam or Superchunk anymore, and it sucks!
i think the problem may be, perhaps too many indie bands are trying to recreate this kind of sound and only end up watering it down. the 90's did have some seriously bitchin music, and i doubt we'll ever have another 90's. it just can't be redone or recreated.
@WCman100 learn guitar and vocals, find some friends who can play drums, bass, rhythm and write the kind of music you miss. Then out of your own pocket fund tours and recording until you have a fanbase big enough to support full releases. Fund a video of a single, host it on youtube. There are loads of great bands out there making more relevant, accomplished music than the 90's indie movement. They just didn't follow the steps above. Look in the right places and you'll find them ; )
@WCman100 i know what you're saying. but there was this band from like 2003-2005 called Bear Vs. Shark. they sound like this song. you should really listen to them if you're looking to be proved wrong.
@bigbillie056 you are so right! bear vs. shark is fucking incredible. flawless band. i wish they were still around. the singer, marc paffi has a new project called "bars of gold" they're very much like BVS.
@WCman100 BOOO! You dipshit there are tons of great bands these days...the 90's was ASS...but I am grateful for bands like this and Sonic Youth and Eric's Trip and Yo La Tengo etc for paving the way...stop livin in the 90's buds...there is sooooo much good music out there and it is at your finger tips....stop being such a whineass and go find it!!! Ya Dink....WOOO HOOOOOO
Ah, yes. When Indie rock was once relevant.
