  • Is The Combatribes a Double Dragon clone? No, because they were both created by Technos Japan. Is the Starfy (or Legendary Starfy) series a ripoff of the Kirby series? No, although different developers (Tose & HAL Laboratory), they were both created for Nintendo. Are most (if not all) Cave-developed shooters imitations of Toaplan's shooters? No, because Cave was founded by former Toaplan employees.

Gamers should research first before considering the games they find as copies of popular ones.

  • Nobody copied anyone. Both games are made by Nintendo, its the same reason you see Chain Chomp enemies in both Mario and Zelda games.

  • no lag?? thats crazy :oo

  • Doki Doki should be in SSB

  • view the music of ddp (overworld) is a little different to the overworld music from SMB2?

  • great vid, will used it in my LiveJournal post. I am writing about the whole 'Super Mario Brothers 2' thing...

  • let me tell you all what happend....nintendo made super mario bros 2 in japan in 1986. When it went to America, it was arrgued that the game was too hard for us americans due to america worrying about the risk of mario's popularity, so they decided to make a completley different game. Japan found a game a unsecessfull game called Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic and America agreed, so they changed and this is what we got: Super Mario Bros 2. (I hoped that helped with arguments).

  • @12krazy111 It wasn't because they thought it was too hard for Americans, they thought it would be too similar to the first game and that it wouldn't go over well.

  • the only difference between mario bros 2 and doki doki panic is the characters and in mario u dont have to W A I T...

  • doky doky panic is the gayes game i ever seen mario bros 2 is way better

  • This freezes at 1:39.

  • mario copied doki doki panic

but doki doki panic copied mario too (like the pow block from Mario Bros 1983 and Invincible star from Super Mario Bros 1985)

  • @TheSmashbros45 Doki Doki Panic também é criação de Shigeru Miyamoto.

  • @andyhenriques So you mean "Doki Doki Panic is also created by Shigeru Miyamoto"(Google translate IS NOW IMPROVED or something??)

  • @andyhenriques oh cool, I didn't know that

  • @TheSmashbros45 It's not really "ripping off", though. This game was already originally meant to be a Mario game (a co-op one, in fact), but was retooled into Doki Doki Panic when the Yume Kojo 87 Festival asked Nintendo to make a game for the event. This game was still produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, and the music was still composed by Koji Kondo, and as I already mentioned, it was originally going to be a Mario game, anyway.

P.S. this is from another youtube video argument i found online

  • @dss103 mario bros 2 was the original game that appears like mario lost levels in the mario all stars versions. but nintendo of america didnt like the idea of having a new mario game with the same basic game format, so they took this game as the new mario game

  • @TheSmashbros45 SM 2 was turned into Doki Doki, then turned back into Mario lol

  • @TheSmashbros45 doki doki panic was sold as mario 2 in the U.S.

  • @THEmyaccountnotyours i know, the original mario 2(lost levels) was released only in japan because it was too hard for the rest of the world

mario 2(u.s) was sold in japan too as Super Mario U.S.A., do japan people realized mario usa is copy of doki doki panic

  • @TheSmashbros45 doki doki panic was created by the creator of mario. shigeru miyamoto

  • @Fredcool95 i know that

look when i posted that comment

  • @TheSmashbros45 And the coins from Super Mario Bros. 1985!!!

  • Mama + Luigi = MAMA LUIGI!!

  • WAIT A MINUTE! if doki doki came first and Mario copied them then why does doki doki have stars that make you invincible?!?!

  • @spartan2222222222222 Doki Doki Panic também é de Shigeru Miyamoto, então...

  • @andyhenriques ENGLISH MOTHERFUCKER!! DO YOU SPEAK IT!?

  • @LilEasterTheTot

ninguem é obrigado a falar e escrever em ingles na internet, senhor homem das carvenas.

if you want to understand, use a translator! asshole retarded! ^^

  • @sugoichi Someone hasn't seen the masterpiece full of genius that Quentin Tarantino created...

  • @spartan2222222222222 Doki Doki and SMB were created by the same person. Some mario elements were already present in DDP before sprite conversion.

  • @spartan2222222222222 i dont know what he is saying but i know spanish and i think he says shigeru miyamoto created doki doki panic too

  • @thebestalpha not to be an asshole but... "Doki Doki Panic is also Shigeru Miyamoto" lol Google translator :P i spent a while at it until i figured out it was Portuguese.

  • @spartan2222222222222 ok its very similar to spanish BTW you know google translator it one of the worst translators right?

  • @thebestalpha no need to troll. besides it worked good enough in this case did it not?

  • @spartan2222222222222 yes i just said is the worst translator it doesnt mean it doesnt work or something like that and sorry i didnt mean to troll i was just telling you

  • @thebestalpha its all good. no worries.

  • @spartan2222222222222

I would say its was an Nintendo thing, but the original Mario, before Doki Doki, had them too remember? I guess after a while they said, lets make this exclusive to Mario?

  • @spartan2222222222222 Because Doki Doki Panic was originally going to still be a Mario game. A co-op Mario game, in fact. However, when Fuji TV asked Nintendo to make a game to commemorate their Yume Kojo 87 Festival, the game was retooled into Doki Doki Panic. So, you see, it was always meant to be a Mario game. Not only that, but Shigeru Miyamoto still produced Doki Doki Panic, and the music was still composed by Koji Kondo.

  • @spartan2222222222222 they must of just copied mario

  • @spartan2222222222222 First Doki Doki was a mario prototype. Then it became Doki Doki then it turned back into mario in the US.

  • @spartan2222222222222 Because they are creations Nintendo made for Doki Doki Panic. Even Wart. The only "original" thing about Doki Doki Panic is the family, which - back then - was a mascot for a show on Fuji TV. Even the soundtrack was done by Koji Kondo!

  • what do the cherries do?!

  • nintendo shouldve changed a little, more like: let you UNLOCK the ability to jump on enemies like in the first super mario bros, get the sounds from the first super mario bros in there, make bowser the boss instead of wart, he could do the same thing as wart but fire instead of bubbles, keep the intro of doki doki panic but modify it to make it so peach was kidnapped. After completing the game give the player a new option called "Original Edition" this changes all enemies to mario enemies

  • Birdo sneezes when he gets hit

  • :O its a one copy!!! OMG!

  • Soupa Marrio You as Aye !

  • Mario 2 is DDP with mario characters pasted in as well as mushrooms in place of heart containers, potions instead of lamps and some minor musical changes.

  • WAIT

  • U know i miss the POW block....

  • @reggiardito At least it made a comeback in new super mario bros wii

  • @saulw103 Yeah...

  • @reggiardito :( I miss to

  • why do they put pow block in doki doki panic when its supposed

    to be in mario bros?

  • Birdo screaming when getting hit is awesome.

  • Muy ilustrativo, se ve que esta Akira Toriyama no tuvo nada de imaginación, ojalá este videojuego Doki Doki Panic se hubiera dado a conocer como originalmente se tenía concebido.

    Salu2

  • @mariobro890 Yup she did

  • I didn't know that SMB2 is so similar to that :o why they don't made SMB2 like the other SMB

  • 6:23

is it just me, or did birdo SCREECH?!?

  • mas o mario 2 foi lançado tempo dpois no mario allstars do snes com o nome lost levels

  • The guy playing Doki Doki looks retarded lmao.

  • son los mismos

  • the fuking superstar did not come from this

  • what a cop-out by nintendo eh?

  • People need to stop complaining. Apparently, no one remembers Mario's first adventures didn't have any of the things found in the SMB series. The first game, Mario Bros., was just as different to SMB than SMB was to SMB2. In fact, if Nintendo hadn't gone back to the SMB 1 formula, no one would've been the wiser, and there would be no complaints.

  • but the starman and the pow thing are originally from the first 2 mario games!

  • lol no wonder im so much used to Mario characters in this game i kinda feel they were the original. i was also suddenly thinking that what if Wario coulda also been the tough character to play as besides Toad.

  • @b8mb8 That would have been cool but Wario didnt even come out until 1991 or 1992 I forget. I do know it was SML 2 Six golden coins.

  • @MeanestBean3 Maybe they should've added him in Super Mario Advance.

  • Holy shit...

  • you sneeky buttholes nintndoo

  • starman?! in doki doki panic?! Eu posso achar doki doki panic em rom ou só em console mesmo?

  • I think that doki doki is maked from SMB1.

Those stars and [POW] is from mario.

But I hate, that shyguy, birdo, and them is not from mario!

  • no, that happens when the crouch jump is fully charged.

  • I would think since Doki Doki Panic wasn't intended to be a Mario game for America, they wouldn't have Mario references such as invincibility star and coins

  • weird

  • Cool The Underworld Music In Mario 2 Plays Slower Then The doki doki Music.

  • The reason this was changed to SMB2 was because Nintendo didn't want to send the REAL SMB2 here because it would be too hard. So they didn't have one here. But they were already working on SMB3. So they just took Doki Doki Panic and switched it to Mario and called it Super Mario Bros. 2. But now for 600 Wii Points, you can play the real SMB2 which was renamed The Lost Levels for USA

  • or if your cool XD you have super mario all stars for snes in your closet and play the loost levels there lol

  • Thats only partially true the Real Super Mario Bros. 2 wasn't brought over because it was to much like the original as well as being too difficult

  • But it feels like Nintendo were giving USA and Europe a big "FUCK YOU, YOU ARE TOO STUPID TOO PLAY SMB2 SO HERE IS A MARIO VERSION OF DOKI DOKI PANIC INSTEAD" This is the reason I hate this Super Mario 2 as a Super Mario game, but the game itself is a good game.

  • doki doki panic sure affected the mario series alot...Birdo, Shy Guys, Snifits, Bob-ombs, those jumping ninja things...

  • @Randomking8000 Ninjis?

  • @Randomking8000 dont forget the awesome music

  • @Randomking8000 and also the fact that peach can fly...

  • lol nintendo really recycled eh ^_^

  • that junping thing on 4:47 is on super mario world.

  • Thanks to the american change Peach is able to hover and pluck turnips of the ground in Super Smash Bros.

  • yea and thanx to american change luigi has a really high jump

  • actually this first occurred in Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan... Luigi had a higher jump there too! The Japanese Mario 2 is what we call "Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels" here in the states. It's on Virtual Console and was in Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES.

  • yeah, & thats where luigis slide came in. when u run & stop, he starts to slide. (it can be a real pain when playing "luigi" galaxy)

  • luigi had a really high jump in the original super mario bros

  • was doki doki panic made BEFORE mario 2???

  • yes, it was made before MB2

  • panic had to have been since the nintendo dude who made it decided to turn it into maio.

  • yes

  • @diesellady yes

  • One difference i noticed was the overworld music. In Doki Doki, the music is long toned and SMB it's short toned but longer. waterfalls were different and the door at the end of the stage was a mask in JP and a bird in SMB 2. There's more differences but those are few.

  • i wana play Doki Doki. It caught my interest once i knew it was the original game.

  • The ost & all has stolen!

  • This is why i hate both games!

If the rest of the Super Mario Bros' are the same, then why is super mario bros 2 so different. I mean after that game, they went back to the original super mario bros, why did they make it like Doki Doki Panic? Thats what i dont get!

  • Becuz people said the "REAL" Super Mario Bros 2 was too similar to Super Mario Bros 1, which it actually was... O__O

  • so this means the shyguy and the turnip were all a LIE!

  • STFU wilkes85, you ignorant idiot.

  • The Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2 was deemed "too difficult" for American gamers. Nintendo then switched the original 'Doki Doki Panic' sprites with Mario sprites and released it under a different name.

  • I also heard it was too sililar to SMB 1

  • wait, there both licenced by nintendo, so are the enimies in the game mario people?

  • in my opinion: super mario brothers 2 is the winner

  • Ok... So does this prove that Shy Guy, Snifit, and Birdo aren't originally Mario characters?

  • Yup.

  • @zabeon exactly

  • @zabeon they weren't originally, but they are now.

  • @zabeon yea

  • @zabeon YES

  • @zabeon I think that they should make a cameo in a new Mario game, talking about how pissed off they are.

  • @zabeon Not really. The game was actually intended to be a Mario game during its conception, anyway. It was retooled into Doki Doki Panic when Fuji TV asked Nintendo to make a game for their Yume Kojo 87 Festival. Since Shigeru Miyamoto was still the producer of this game, and since it was originally intended to be a Mario game before this, I'd say that still makes those enemies legitimate Mario characters.

  • well the death sound of the enemys are funny

  • Why was the invincible star in doki doki panic? Wouldn't that have been stolen from Mario 1?

  • What about POW and the jump sounds.

  • the coin sounds are the same too! :p

  • Actually it was borrowed, thats why doki doki panic was chosen because it already contained similar mario themes.

In fact the entire story had nothing to do with the Yume show; so nintendo figured why not make a mario game.

  • BTW this inveted many things also. This is the first ever game to depict luigi as bigger then mario or even to have him drawn! It's only due to Mama's size to the sprite mario replaced! If it weren't for this game, Luigi would be a direct twin in looks in the cartoon. Amazing ain't it!

  • Did the Japanese set this up for us? Or did we modify the game?

  • The producer and composer was the same, forgot their name though. On the commersial for Doki Doki Panic, you'll see Mario shaking hands with the other Doki Doki Panic character also.

They then just took that game an moded it. Thanks to this moding of 2, Mario 3 was improved, the prototype was nothing more then Mario 1 itself! If you get the drift, if the japanese makers did not see Mario in that light no.3 would be horridly the first game with no extras or gfx improvments at all over here!

  • The producers thought that the original SMB 2 (the lost levels in All-Stars) was too hard for Americans, so they took Doki Doki Panic and reskined it with Mario characters and sold it here as SMB 2.

  • I knew that, I wanted to know who modified it with mario characters...

  • Not just Americans, but everyone outside Japan, and thats not just America in case you didn't know.

  • In Japan owr Version Is called Super Mario USA

  • You can get the REAL Super Mario Bros 2 (aka Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels) on the Wii's virtual console now.

  • Mario was dreaming about doki doki panic.

  • You might notice that those African tribal masks in Doki Doki Panic were changed to hawk heads in Super Mario Bros 2.

  • THE WATERFALL IN DOKI DOKI PANIC WILL GIVE PEOPLE SEIZURES (sp?)

  • indeed

  • yeah, it would, that's why it was slowed down 8D

  • and I awlways though Birdo was a Mario character

    was I wrong

the star music is cool and the Cave theme sounds faster.

  • hah, i always though that pink dinosaur's belly was the ball/magic crystal [or i could say it the other way around] it was holding to open the mouth.

  • oh shut up, bitch!

  • I remember as a kid really anticipating this game. My friends and I where VERY disappointed with what was released here in the US. I can remember thinking that this was NOT mario... at all! I rejoiced later, when Super Marios true successor was released later on in Super Mario Brothers 3. It was a much better game IMO.

  • In doki doki panic you had to play the whold game again and again with a different character until you beat it with all of them befor you could get the ending so I am glad it was different for the american version.

  • lol what were they thinking when they designed those waterfalls !

  • They slowed down the waterfalls in SMB2 because having a fast-paced movement such as a waterfall in a game like this might've had a high chance of one gaining an epileptic seizure.

  • I'm glad it was changed. Doki Doki Panic seems slower.

  • FAST Waterfalls like those can cause epilepsia.

    SMB2 have slower waterfalls

    =/

  • Yeah I cracked up when I read about that

  • that was interesting :)

  • where can you get a Doki Doki Panic ROM?

  • Procure por roms famicon no Google ;)

  • Translation: Google it!

Enfim...

  • translation plz

  • I like this game, but it's a pity they didn't release the "true" SMB2 in America. It's a really hard game, but it's not right to simply release a completely different game instead.
