  • i am starting to grow them have got some tips for me . like compost tea do you use tea

  • We ended up getting 2 inches from may to october. After it got cold its rained almost everyday.Good luck hope ya get a 1000lber.

  • HA! 2 months with only half an inch of rain? here in Adelaide Australia we're lucky to get that in SIX months in summer, and right now it's almost mid-summer and I'm trying to grow these things! It's quite depressing in a way, I see your leaves pointing up into the sky for light, and MY leaves are like leather from the sun :(

  • So how do you grow them? Do you cover them? I don't mean to but in just a question. Thanks

  • Well this was a year ago now but yes I covered them with shade cloth, but they still wilted from the temperature of the air around them, not just the sun. Eventually they just got too stressed and died. Im gonna grow them through winter this time. An Adelaide winter is like and American summer ;-)

  • Thanks

  • Yeah, i see your point, here in Kerétaro, Mexico, we have a rainy season and dry season, rains from june to september, before(global warmin'?) it was may to august,.....hmmm...ever try prickly pear cactus, needs little water and thrives really well,....only bugger is the thorns!=P

  • Hey Amigo, here in Australia we know all about prickly pear it does so well it is a noxious weed that must be killed.

  • No no my aussie friend, ya got it all wrong, prickly pear is a very nutritious veggie,....we even export some to Japan, ya all oughta try some,...just be careful and not prick your self, nasty thorns this plant has!

  • Yes my friend but it has over grown something terribls. I get stuck every time no matter how careful. A plant just as hardy , nutritious and a crop ,is a thing we call"Pig Weed", first exportable crop from this country when they knew less, if that's believeable. Peace Mate and thanks for your polite reply.. Bueno.

  • Are you entering any in the fair?

  • No they wont be ready in time

  • are those atlantic giants?

  • yes.

  • I like the Sunflower. Those pumpkin vines are sure growing... I'll bet you have to water like crazy.

  • We went 2 months with only a half inch of rain until last week when we got 2 and a half inches. I don't have city water so we pay to have it trucked in and pumped into the cistern, it gets expenseve when each vine can drink 5 gals. a day! Plus the other plants and animals.

  • Why can't you put a well down?? Or do you have one?? Trucked in? I know I ask to many questions..
