Why are you making it so hard for yourself? You can use way easier versions of the chords and have it sound exactly the same, but with less mistakes. Eclipse was great though! Still have to figure that one out myself..
Great version! I still can't even get Goodbye Blue Skies without making a lot mistakes. If you're a floydian then I'd really love if you tried Fearless, it's such a relaxing song... Keep up the good work!
Incredible. Beautiful sound and amazing clarity. This is such a powerful song. I love your version; thank you very much for posting. The tabs are high quality and much appreciated as well.
Amazing. I have been working on this piece for about a month now and have braindamage sounding pretty good. Thank you for the tabs all my freinds love to hear this amazing tune now i just have to work up the corage to do another one of your arragements thinking about brethe.
Cool, glad it is working out for you! I've changed it a bit to bring out the melody more, haven't got around to tabbing it though. I did a dodgy recording of it a few weeks back on my phone, if you want a listen head for my blog.
Breathe is a good choice - note that I've changed that a bit too :)
Work up the courage to post a video response - it's good for you!
you got a touch of old ragtime style in there not sure where that inspiration came from. all the same like some of the different voicings you prefered for this
One of my favorites on YT, Jaw. Thx. You said you are a Floydian from way back. Do you have any other favorites from other albums that you know well enough to post? Some of their later stuff, like "Lost for Words" has killer guitar lead ins and and would be a great solo guitar piece w/some work.
Thanks WotW! I think there are three types of Floydians - the Syd Barretts, the Roger Waters and the Dave Gilmours. I fall under the Roger Waters type; which means I'm mostly limited to Meddle through to The Final Cut. Although I appreciate what Dave continued to do I don't really follow it; and I was born too late to be into Syds stuff ;)
I can fumble my way through DSotM, WYWH and The Wall...but only the ones I can do well I've posted here.
arg i guess ill start goin to drop d but i am a standard tuning purist :) lol drop d is as far as i go its too bad songs like hope(rush) rain song(led) and vasaline machine gun(leo) were in such weird tunings they r some of the best instramentals outt ehre. if you havent allready i recomend listening to vasaline machine gun. the version with the closeup on his guitar. and hope by rush try a live one talex lifeson is amazing. if you dont mind id like your oppinion on those 2 thanks
You could do it, but don't be afraid of drop D. 10 seconds to go down to it, 15 seconds to come back up to it (once you are used to it.) Seriously, don't be afraid, once you've tried it, you'll wonder why you never tried it before ;)
Mate your an insperation. You play some of the greatest hits and your finger picking style is a dream come true. I love your style, love your tabs. If you ever play live let me know when and where and Ill be front row watching for those hidden notes. :-P Youve really embrased every song you cover and they sound superb!!!! Excellent work mate. Talent like you have shouldnt go unappreciated, So bloody good job mate.
Oh I totally dig Floyd, Roger's show was something else, too bad I missed Dave's show. I just moved to Perth a couple of months ago from India, really nice place, laid back and relaxed :). Your playing is just amazing mate ! How long does it take to learn that stuff ! BTW you still in Perth ?
Yep, still in Perth. Been playing floyd on and off for about 15 years...but as with all things, "easy when you know how". I have a long term ambition to do an acoustic fingerstyle cover of the whole DSOTM album. I've done about 6 songs from it, at various levels of completion.
Thats awesome mate :). Do you play to an audience like at social events etc ? Would love to see your performance ! Can you also try Green is the Color from More, I love that acoustic song and I think you would do a great job on it. Cheers !
Don't currently play for an audience, but planning on doing so soon. Maybe in the city busker style - when I've got my battery powered amp running again ;)
Well I will be leaving in a week, so if you doing soon let me know ! And all the best on your dark side adventure, do put them on youtube as well ! Cheers !
Wow, all your music is great. Thank you very much for postings the tabs and all the covers to go with. I'm a huge Floyd fan and to find your site is gold! Much appreciated.
Your version of wish you were here is incredible!! It sounds like 2 or 3 guitars playing in unison. I play a basic strum and pick pattern for that song but one day I'll try out yours. For now goodbye blue sky and breathe are keeping me very busy :)
Sometimes I put 2 bass notes on the beat into Breathe, it kinda fills the song out and goes for the heartbeat sound. However, because I've trained myself to play a single bass note on the beat it is hard to make them all double (double as in eigth note on the beat followed by another eight similar note).
Maybe if you are just starting to learn it, you can train yourself to play it that way instead :)
Someone else mentioned that to me a while back. It just kinda happened that way, wasn't specifically planned. I guess the swingyness is my subconscious interpretation of loonicism ;)
I kinda like the swinginess - it does give a bit of a nonchalance to the insane theme. It would have been a nice tune to hear over the end credits of the movie 'The Wall'.
I played this piece yesterday, hadn't played it in about 2 months. Still locked in, and was still a lot of fun to play, pretty easy too in fact. Give it a try :)
'Brain Damage' is very well represented tonally, but I'm not so sure about the slightly swung feel. Perhaps a slightly straighter approach would be more appropriate. It seems a little too upbeat - although the song is uplifting.
In twenty years time I hope to be as good a guitarist as you, sir!
i really didn't like the brain damage a lot, sounded a little bouncy with the changing bass line in my honest opinion. but eclipse sound amazing, i love it. nice job. :)
i just listened to the version by waters, and this is exactly alike. this HAS to be the best cover of pink floyd on youtube keep playing guitar man live on..
this is probably the greatest PF cover i have ever heard. PF is my favorite band, and it warms me inside to see someone who can cover them as well as this. props to you my friend.
Thanks! I like to make sure I don't upset any PF fans. I've got a couple of other PF covers I reckon I did even better than this one, I think you will approve ;)
It should take a lot shorter than it actually does since I've been playing for the best part of 30 years ;) This piece I first played very similar to Roger Waters ~15 years ago, but after discovering Chet Atkins/Tommy Emmanuel fingerstyle I altered the bassline to what you see here. Probably took me about 4 weeks to change to the "new style", maybe an hour every couple of nights on it. I'm a slow learner ;)
