saw the rats in Albany NY backing up the talking heads the heads were booed off stage the good rats blew the house down can't find any of their music in any stores it sucks
Rochester, NY was like the 2nd home to the Good Rats in the late '70s and early '80s. Glad I was a kid then and I saw them almost every time they came here.
They opened for Journey at the War Memorial in 1979 when Journey was touring in support of their Evolution album. Peppi threw a rubber rat up into the air and swung his bat, sending a line drive deep into the crowd. That rat rode around on the dash of my car for years until it finally melted.
I remember the Good Rats when I first heard them in 1978. I could not wait until "Rats to Riches" came out. They were fabulous and indeed the 'greatest band that never made it.' That said, now that I am much older, it is hard to reconcile that they were soooo politically incorrect. There are not many people for whom I can play "Don't hate the ones who bring you rock and roll" (i.e., 'hate the rich oil companies, hate the slimy refugees') or "Yellow Flower" without having to apoligize.
i like to tell people i've liked the goodrats since my DAD was 19. he was born in 52, i was born in 86. one of my most prized possessions past on to me was a pristine, factory sealed warner bros pressing of Tasty. i've loved the goodrats my entire life. so, in that respect, they made it.
but i, too, wish they could have gotten the star treatment and fat cash to live off of. never stopped them from kicking ass, though.
i would see you guys in the 70s,at a place called ubies in west islip,,still not sure how you didnt make it really big,,you guys were and are still really good,,,keep going, your day is coming
