You need to have all the original achievements that came with Halo 3, no Heroic, Legendary, or Mythic map pack achievements necessary. Just the original give the katana.

actually any of the halo 3 achievements work. As long as u have 1000 gamerscore on halo 3, you should have the katana unlocked.
