Since they use an additional double bass (not in the original) it may be that they have the arrangement of Toscanini for string orchestra. They are a chamber orchestra after all!

Did they have to double up on all the parts? Or did the conductor feel that he would be too "naked" and useless without enough people to "conduct"? It is however surprising that each section sounds so tight and together.

I understand that the opening is a bitch of a part to play, but that doesn't mean that you can make it sound mushy...

it was still a good performance overall
