Excellent Video! I really enjoyed it. If you're interested in these subjects you may also like the work being done by BEWARE OF IMAGES. It's a feature-length, animated documentary about the history of visual representation. The movie explores the intricate relationship between the technology, regulation and social effects of mass media. Its aim is to serve as an educational and entertaining media literacy tool that can be enjoyed by everyone.
@drewilson Black men in urban areas started to put on the "tough act" because they felt it was the best way for them to gain respect in their community (this ideology is believed to have emerged through movies like The Godfather). Eventually, this "tough" act became mainstream through hip-hop/rap and the emergence of BET/MTV. White men have begun to immitate it... causing a vicious cycle of violent masculinity through all ethnicities in the USA. That clip shows a white man acting "black."
Where ohh where would civilization be without us "brutal men" to protect it? I mean, they say "violence never solves anything"...well, that's BS! It sured solved the Holocaust ! ... or maybe we should have just invited Hitler over to talk about his feelings over some organicly grown tea and vegan brownies...
There will always be a thoughtless, blood thirsty barbarian ready to destroy civilization and hence, there will always be a need for "tough guys"(and girls) to stop them.
a true man doesnt need to show his dominance by beating a woman if you really think your a man for beating a womans ass ill fucking beat your ass and wont stop tell either you or me are dead
We truly live in pathetic times when men are so overly concerned about "being men". Do you honestly see no correlation between what society has taught you it means to "be a man" and violence against women? Or do you simply condone that behavior because it's just how men are?
First I don't condone violence except of course in self defense etc. Second no I don't accept that society is what drives some men to commit violence against women.Everybody watches the same films, reads the same books etc but most men be not beat their wives, girlfriends etc.The men that do were taught that by their fathers.
"In the United States it is estimated that men will use violence against more than 3 million women this year. Unfortunately, this means that nearly 8,500 men will use physical violence against women every day." I agree that SOME men learn this from their fathers, but not all. And believe me I'm not one to blame everything on the media. But I believe that boys are taught to be tough, which leads to a desire for power and control, which is the root of all violence.
It is not toughness that leads to violence but lack of discipline. There are many so called tough men who manage to controll themselves and not resort to violence unless they must. Thus it is the inability to focus toughness in the appropiate manner that is the problem.
@radioheed Actually proportionally women are vary rarely the victims of violence. In fact the more violent the crime the more likely the victim will be male.. If the problem is truly brought about by a social construct then the actual focus should be on stopping male on male violence.
Did you know access to resources is proportionally related to male crime i.e. poverty stricken areas? Did you know much of male crime is to acquire resources?
Understand where you may be coming from but as a female the mom has a huge hand in more of this issue than a father. Dads that are missing are to blame for not being a man ,or a responsible person, but Moms are the ending factor. They need to do better at whom they choose to fill that role.
Fair enough but people change too so a woman may think a man would make a good father but when it is actually time to step up he may leave. Moreover only a man can teach a boy to be a man so really it is the father who is the ending factor. If there is no father than a male relative etc.
@carolmeyers Actually it is women who abandon their families with 70+ percent of ALL divorce initiated by women. Divorce is rarely initiated by men and even less often when there are children involved.
When someone brings up valid points about the problems in our society reguarding gender everyone erupts into this firestorm of blaming the other sex which contributes to the problem. I believe each gender deserves respect, compassion, and a chance to express themselves as they are without social pressure. I call that feminism but frankly the people who dont know what feminism is get hung up on the "f" word but there should be more focus on the ideals.call it egalitarianism or gigoo who cares?
Wrong. Feminism defers certain status quo females (largely upper class white women) and procures their privileged status, while castigating and even demonizing heterosexual men.
Speaking of bigotry and "obvious delusions"---you have NO idea what you're talking about, or you're probably a female supremacist yourself.
I would recommend that you read feminist literature before you make that claim. Given, there are lot of feminist scholars who have primarily devoted attention to the experiences of a certain class of women. But please remember that there are a variety of sects within feminism, not all agree and there are many who denounce the attitudes you speak of. They make sure recognize the experiences of ALL women and men, and to understand their places with regard to society, power and ideology.
My claim? In it isn't merely my claim. I have read quite a bit of feminist literature and lurked on online blogs, and much of the underlying theme is that women are still the primary "victims" of "patriarchy" and that men's concerns and issues take a backseat to women's in almost very insistence. Don't try to twist something that they promote what it's not, whether its a Valenti, Dworkin, Freidan, or a Faludi. The latter is the one of the few that tried to empathize, if that's the word.
I've seen part of one of these educational videos. I think they are great. It is about time that men are freed from having to suppress emotions other than violence. I demand equality! It makes us all better people.

The problem isn't an abundance of masculinity. It's a lack of balanced masculine values. And feminism is to blame.

Jesus. Feminism is this and only this: women and girls are human beings deserving of basic and civil rights.
Lord. You're talking about embracing bigotry--intolerance and hate--as the solution to your own obvious delusions.
