@niedoba Thanks for the input man. Keep in mind that this is just a warm up exercise, and that there are other reasons to train martial arts besides looking for one on one fights in the streets or ring.
Not many people carry around sticks bro to be honest ur punchs and ur style is all well and good but good fighter seen u punch would step back block then just wait for one of those to come and you would get hit and not soft hard cause that hole art from relays on some one attacking u if some one waits an picks u off ur done for and ur bot goinna find 2 sticks on the side if the road and I've done that stick fighting in Murat Thai I'd just push kick ya or grab one of ya and give u a good wack ni
Have you tried any cold steel polypropylene swords/daggers on your bob? I cover mine up as I'm worried it will get pierced. I put hockey gear and chain mail on him so I can practice stabbing.
BOBs are awesome to train on, I give mine a flogging nearly everyday, with empty hand, police batons, broadsword and knife, my arms feel like they are going to fall off sometimes.
Very nice, good to see someone working bob without the gloves. I just got turned onto this gel base filler that may ("ill let you know when I've used it) allow you to bring bob's weight unto 300+ pounds. I'm dying to try it.
@wiaz123 Hey man, thanks. He's holding up pretty well. The only weakness in the BOB is when you move it by twisting. You can tell he's not built for that stress. But when you put water and sand in the base, you don't have much choice but to roll and twist to move it. If he falls apart, that will be the culprit. BOB is great for stick and knife targeting. You can hit him as hard as you want, and your get a great feel for the angles and resistance of hitting a person.
@parrspen Not bad at all! only thing I have to say is when doing Kali NEVER turn your back, more power to your stabs, and need to be more fluid, but all in all nicely done, and did I see kenpo in there? haven't seen that in about 2 years
@chablehh Thanks for the advice. Have you trained the "Archangel" series in Kali? There are spins in those, but they are in there to teach you how move efficiently to fight multiple attackers. In this video, I'm simulating many attackers even though I only have one BOB. The empty hand portion I would say is 60% Hawaiian Kenpo, 20% Karate, 20% Kali.
@parrspen Nice! love Kenpo, one of my favorite when I was learning.
and yes I have, and now when you mention you're simulating multiple targets, very nicely done, and last thing is with knees, when you use them, if you can, pull the target down as you bring the knee up, not much but it helps alot with power and oddly enough helps keep some gas in your tank.
Thanks! At the point of filming that video I had only been studying Kali for about 6 months, but I've trained in other Martial Arts for many years, so it was easy for me to implement what I had learned quickly.
@parrspen Thanks for the quick reply. I've also trained in various martial arts for the last 10 years. Watching your video makes me wanna learn this martial arts. It looks very practical, especially the stick fighting part.
Thanks! The empty hand is a mix of Hawaiian Kenpo, Karate, and Panantukan. The Stick and Knife stuff all comes from Kali. I don't have a name for the sets of techniqus, I just slowly compiled them as I've trained with BOB.
very impressif.look i have a muay thai and mix martials arts gym in kuala lumpur Malaysia.really looking to get a BOB but nobody will ship it over here.any idea or address of someone who will???been looking for almost 2 years to get one of this.tks for ur help
HA that's funny. There's a big dude at the kickboxing Gym I train at now who always calls me Jeff Spiegman (he never gets the name right, and I don't bother correcting him)
Hey Man, Thanks for the advice. I totally agree, in a one on one, you basically never want to spin. Yet in these drills, when I am spinning it is more about simulating a defense from a 2nd or 3rd opponent who is attacking from the back. Sadly I can only justify purchasing 1 BOB right now, LOL.
My boy BOB right there is eating your shots like pancake breakfast at ihop. i'm just kidding around you did excellent. your form, speed and accuracy were amazing and spot on i hope you don't mind me asking what your belt rank is in kenpo karate. if you prefer to keep that personal so others will not make wise ass remarks then that is fine with me.
Thanks, I achieved black belt in Karate in my late teens. I studied Hawaiian Kenpo for 2 years and more recently Kali. I haven't ranked in either. These days I simply train for the love of the Martial Arts, and to be honest don't really have an interest in ranking.
Don't get too worried about what these internet "guru's" think. Most are just piss and wind anyway...
I just got one of these myself, and am trying to put some sets together for the same purpose as you. I may steal some of your empty hand stuff, as I like how you incorporated the knees and elbows as well.
Great Work...very smooth & good transitions from tech. to tech.! Keep up the good work, my friend!
Well, unlike the rest of these internet know-it-alls, I think this is great. I just got one of these bags myself, & am trying to put together some sets to do the same thing. I may copy some of your stuff here...looks great. Your empty hand stuff at the beginning of the vid. was great; very smooth transitions, & I especially liked how you incorporated the elbows and knees. GOOD WORK!
Of course we all can strive to be less sloppy, but what you may not understand is that there are different philosophies and concepts that can be applied to striking, being relaxed and flexible can be a better way to strike certain pressure points etc. It sounds to me like you may want to broaden your horizons by exposing yourself to more aspects of the martial arts. There are 1000s of years of development from many cultures in what it means to be a warrior beyond what is represented in MMA.
I accidentally deleted ur last response. The Stick and Knife stuff is from a Phillipino Martial Art called Kali. Which is very practical. I can easily carry a scalable baton and/or a folder knife on me on the street for self defense. There are many reasons I train, a cage match is not one of them. Yet many MMA guys have trained in Kali. Again there are more lessons to be learned from the martial arts then grounding & pounding a bag on the floor. Open ur mind a bit, ur life will be richer for it.
hey!, excellents techniques!, you are fast doing that, I practice karate and I would like to get a BOB XL (a new version of your BOB) but I ma not sure if it is enough endurable :S
Hey Thanks! Don't worry about Bob's Durability. I hit him with sticks consistently with no problem. The only way you can damage him is to twist him with his base, which is annoying if you want to move him.
