1. You should plan your speech before you record ( that UMMM is kinda annoying )
2. Ok, so you just got a lovebird. He doesn't like people. You are dumb enough to open the cage and let it fly? Good luck with catching him. An untamed lovebird will never try to climb on a person's hand because he's afraid of it. He thinks you want to harm him. All you have to do is to talk to him and put him on the desk while you are playing on computer. I did that and i tamed my OLD lovebird in 2 weeks.
Expert village my ass, youre teaching wrong things, you are reinforcing the bird biting habit because when it trys to bite you, you back off your finger, the bird thinks you are afraid, so the bird will do it more and more so youll leave him alone, if a bird bites you, just pretend that it doesnt hurt and continue what you are about to do, dont back off, then it will stop biting,
It's funny. She's stupid. Pulling her finger back when it's biting at her is showing her fear, which the lovebird will take advantage of. I love how un-expert, "expert"village is.
Wow the whole letting the bird out on it's own terms thing is crap I bought 2 wild blackmasked lovebirds and they come out on there own and 1 can go on my hand they go on top of there cage and just hop on
I agree with cassapollard and not this lame expertvillage video on letting the bird realize it can come out on his/her own. I adopted 2 wild black masked lovies that were scared of people and because I open their cage and let them come in and out whenever they want, they've learnt when I want them to go back into the cage (when I leave the house or cooking) and are a lot more trusting faster than if I "make them come on your terms".
bird needs to come out on your terms? wrong! you open the cage door and walk away and let the bird learn on his own time he is free to come out. you do not need to assist the bird on coming out of the cage..sheesh! btw...the bird was bored with you!
hiiii...miss this is nikki singh...i seen you all videos i like your videos...miss i dont know your name what's your name miss...miss i want to b your friend plzzz.....u having account on orkut , facebook..then plzzz +add on your id plzzz my id is kumar.yogesh83@gmail.com
This is a video and yet she says umm alot....but idk I just stick my hand in my birds cage like its nothing and i don't know why people trip about trying to have a trust shit play with it take it out buy it from a f****ing breader a good one and you won't have to deal with that, but it is hard trying to hand a rattled bird
uhmmmmm birds recognize uhm who feeds them and tend to uhm...be more attached to who ever feeds them. and as the bird is in different stages of life the cage scenario differs. when the bird is young it doesnt want to leave the cage and it is easier to put the bird in the cage, but as the bird ages this reverses and the bird grows more attached to you rather than its cage :p it is important to spend a lot of time handling, talking to, and even let your friends handle it so it becomes friendly.
no u can do that. Letting ur luvbird out on his own during training and taming helps b/c its better then actually grabbing him out. What if he doesnt want to? See what i mean? A lil tip give ur birdie a treat he likes when he comes out to show that trainin session can be fun plus it builds trust. If u need more advie just message me cause i have had 6 luvbirds and bred them and hand ed them too :)
Well, I wouldn't say a cockatoo is the BEST type of bird, because they can be loud, their feathers shed dust, and they need a LOT of attention. If you can't give attention to a cockatoo every day, you really shouldn't get one. They absolutely need to be interacted with, otherwise they'll get depressed and even neurotic. They've been known to self-mutilate when they're neglected. Don't get me wrong, they will LOVE you to death! But don't get one if you're not going to give it lots of attention.
Loving things to death is more of a human speciality. I don't think biggest parrots and cockatoos should be kept as pets at all, their needs are too specific.
It looks to me like a colour mutation of a peach-faced lovebird. They can come in several different colours, other than the standard peach and green colours. :)
"UMM. You need to UMM love the bird and UMM be slow around the bird and UMMMMMMMMM, umm I'm from a vet's office and umm.. Umm okay have a nice day, umm.
My hubby got me two a year and a half ago and I have been having a hard time training them to come to me. When I go near the cage they often scamper off to the other side of the cage, some help please anyone. I so want them to be able to come to me and bond, thanks.
first and foremost CLIP THEIR WINGS...they build a dependance on you since they must step up to you to go anywhere.
This is almost necessary for lovebirds who can be fearful and agressive.
wing clipping helps ALOT.
make sure you do not clip a growing feather -a with a blood supply (blood feather) or it will bleed and need to be plucked out.
trim the first 5 longest flight feathers at the base of the shaft, do not cut half down the father or the ends will poke them and they will chew on the ends
a cocktoo is the BEST type of bird u can get but they are expenseve i am getting a bourke budgie they are $120 and are completly different prsonalitys then normal budgies. im naming mine Aphrodite!
clean often, dont open doors/windows while out so they dont fly away, teach them where not to go, have toys to keep them interested in the area and not fly off looking for something fun
you should actually only get 1 so that they are more bonded toward you. and they do not get jealous if one gets more attention and biting. but 2 is okay only if you are okay with your bird being more social with the other birds. also if you have 1 you should not get another one because the first bird tends to fight and even kill the new bird.
i just let my bird do his things if he wants to join me watching tv or something his free.! he has no limitation to go out of his cage. that is what i like the most of it
Actually you can have one bird just as well as two. To say that two birds will be much nosier then one. But only have one if you will spend the time with it, which means dont leave them in the cage most of the day alone and only spend afew minutes with them. You haveto spend time with them, at least afew hours a day and have them with you, cage in your room, and just be with them as much as possible within safe perameters.
its better to get one first , or get two and seperate them first.
Then you tame them one by one because when you put them together straight away they see you as a outsider and the other bird as the one they can trust.
I disagree when she says that the bird has to come out on your terms. I don't think that you should force the bird to come out if it doesn't want to. It's good that it wants to come out to you of it's own free will by it's self and that's why I open the door for my birds and let them come out unassisted if I don't feel like sitting and waiting. This isn't one of those instances in which you need to be firm with your bird. They're doing nothing wrong. Yet, they still know I'm top bird.
did any of u stupid guys see any of her other videos??? She had already mentioned that the cage is only for travel. And secondly, she already mentioned that the one in teh cage IS NOT a sandy perch. She already said she doesn't reccomend sandy perches... Jeeez!!
Which is stupid. Their nails and beaks are worn down on them, like in nature on rough surfaces, which is better than the stress of having their nails clipped. My birds seek out their sandy perches to run their beaks on. They also have smooth ones.
oh and sand paper perches are dangerous and harmful for the birds feet. They can cause sores and all sorts of other nasty and painful things for the birds. Concrete is a better choice and getting their nails done isnt so bad either because if you let the vet do it and "rescue" your bird after with millet im sure your gonna get some major brownie points, or millet points in bird speak.
Thats very true, i bought a supposedly hand tame, very sweet bird and he was not. So even if you got it from a breeder or hand raised it yourself your still gonna get nipped on the odd ocassions.
I hope that cage isn't that bird's home. It's way too small.
It's also hard to reach your hand in and make them come out when they're biting and they dart all around the cage.
If they have a good time, I think they should be allowed to come out if they want to or if they're not in the mood then they don't have to. That prevents a lot of bites from a grumpy bird that didn't feel like hanging out.

Why can't the bird go out of the cage on it's own, it's called freedom. Especially if they won't come out if they are cage aggressive.
