I'm comparing the crusades in regards to those at the top spent their own personal wealth for what they believed in. While I'm not expecting GW Bush to do any fighting, I don't see anything wrong with him as an ex president moving to Iraq (with a bodyguard detail) and use his wealth to help out the common Iraqi who he acts like he cares about so much, and he can stay the course until the job is complete.

Oil contracts are already largely accounted for by international corporations. I think Cheney was speaking from a military/strategic point of view. As much as I respect the man, I yet again have to disagree - having a large troop presence on the group in Iraq is both an unnecessary expense and a constraint on our ability to deter countries like Iran/DPRK/etc.
I'm pretty sure the oil deals have been sewn up already by Exxon, Shell, et al. The wheels were in motion for that stuff when the CPA and Paul Bremer were still there.

I'm comparing the crusades in regards to those at the top spent their own personal wealth for what they believed in. While I'm not expecting GW Bush to do any fighting, I don't see anything wrong with him as an ex president moving to Iraq (with a bodyguard detail) and use his wealth to help out the common Iraqi who he acts like he cares about so much, and he can stay the course until the job is complete.
I would be silly if I said Bush should personally fight as a sitting prez.

The Bush admin should have at least had the decency to go on a recruitment drive to get the last few believers to enlist and fight for his cause.

Factoid: Cheney didn't invade Iraq, the USA invaded Iraq with the blessings and full support of the Democratic and Republican congress.. Even Hillary Clinton gave a high -five and voted to invade. And the American people were 100% behind it. When the war turned ugly people conveniently forgot all that. Kinda like all the people who now say they love Michael Jackson after he died are the same ones who trashed him when he was alive.

The Democrats got neo-conned into voting for the invasion with the cooked intel they were provided. It was never a declaration of war anyway. Shame on them. The locals in my area (Champaign-Decatur-Springfield Market) have an obvious conservative bias. The three network news services (CBS News, NBC News, ABC news) are usually credible. CNN is usually credible, MSNBC has an obvious liberal bias, and FOX News has an obvious conservative bias.

Duh! I've been saying this since the invasion happened. Millions and millions of people knew this even before the invasion happened. While it's nice that everyone is catching up, can I please express how frustrating it has been these last 8 years to know something and have everyone around you tell you, you are wrong. ARghhhhhh! It's no wonder I had to leave the US for 2 years. I just couldn't stand the sickness of patriotism that invaded this country.

Oil contracts are already largely accounted for by international corporations. I think Cheney was speaking from a military/strategic point of view. As much as I respect the man, I yet again have to disagree - having a large troop presence on the group in Iraq is both an unnecessary expense and a constraint on our ability to deter countries like Iran/DPRK/etc.

I'm pretty sure the oil deals have been sewn up already by Exxon, Shell, et al. The wheels were in motion for that stuff when the CPA and Paul Bremer were still there.

Cenk, you have to consider the fact that even if no oil is ever achieved from Iraq for the US, Bush (an oil man) and Cheney (an oil man) can consider Iraq Mission Accomplished. The price of oil before Iraq was flirting with $10 a barrel and afterwards? Have you heard that oil companies are and have been reaping record profits since?
I would not put it past the likes of Cheney and co. to realize that by disrupting the supply end of the equation, billions were to be made by oil barrons!

Amen. And what Martinez doesn't understand is I'm NOT defending America. I can wholly understand why people from that geographical area might bear ill will towards America. But bearing ill will towards a country and murdering the men, women, and children who live there are very different things.

Are you making the argument that we went into Iraq because of 9/11? If you are, you're going against reports that have stated the opposite from the FBI and CIA. Even Cheney and Bush have admitted that there were no links between 9/11 and Iraq....
