Wish I knew! Many people have asked the same question. All I know is that it was written as a dance and re-ochestrated for Brass Band and put on a march card. It is very popular in County Durham. Your best bet is to contact a County Durham Brass Band. I do not know of it being recorded anywhere
I don't suppose you have any footage of the Monkwearmouth banner? I made it in the late 80's. It may be to old to be out now and Idea if it still exists?
Jonathan as far as Im aware the newer Monkwearmouth banner is located in the Sunderland Stadium of light in the right hand side stair well from the main reception. I believe the older one is on display at the Winter Gardens in Sunderland, My Grandad and Dad used to play for Monkwearmouth (later Hylton Colliery Silver band)
I have spoken to Jonathan on the phone and sent him photos of the banner he made. As you say, it is kept in The Stadium of Light except when we borrow it for banner exhibitions. The previous one is in very poor condition and is kept rolled up at NUM HQ, Red Hills in Durham City after some years in The Houses of Parliament.
The Hylton banner is coming our for this years Durham Miners Gala on Saturday 11th July

I will make enquiries but I think the present banner is fairly new.
