I was thinking that cllimbing up seems like a great challenge, but climbing it in reverse back down would be true craziness. Then I read that they walk down...
Steph, I have watched many videos and read articles about your rock climbing, base jumping and sky diving incredible feats. You are a truly fascinating inspiration, for all women and men alike! Your soul partner is extremely lucky to share every moment with you. I wish you all the best forever and ever.
Extremely badass! But I love how you say you prefer free soloing and yet there is an entire camera crew all the way up.... Makes for a sweet video though! Rock on
Free soloing typically means only rock shoes and chalk; no parachute. IIRC, Dean Potter was exploring the idea of free soloing with a parachute a few years back but I don't know if he climbs with one or not.
Unbelievable feat of physical and mental strength. I visit the Rockies as often as I can and hike in places, but watching Steph do this gave me heart palpitations. I can't even come close to imagining what it must feel like to do this. Truly an amazing accomplishment - my hat's off to you, Steph.
Wow. Thank you copyright for taking out the audio in this video as well as the person speaking.
Nonetheless, great video, it always reminds me what's out there and the infinite number of ways you can climb and achieve yet another route. Videos like this keep me inspired to keep climbing!

@Elementecho "People do a long day on the diamond. it takes 3-5 hours to hike to the base. it's good to start climbing the north chimney at dawn. the very best thing is to be finished with the route by noon or 2 pm, to avoid afternoon thunderstorms. it takes an hour or two to walk back to the base, and then 2-3 hours to walk down." ~Steph Davis via prAna
Impressive climb, but stupid. Just Darwinism at work maybe? Her feelings of being "in control" or of "mastery" are illusions. Do it long enough and your luck will eventually run out....
She trailed a rope on Castleton so she could rap off from the summit. (I assume the filming was done with a helicopter, so the film crew couldn't let her rap their ropes.)
The rope is trailed from a gear loop... if anything, it's a hinderance on the way up.
In Touching the Void Dean Potter explains that he uses a BASE rig in order to try climbs that are out of his comfort level. He still climbs with no rig (probably because it feels more free and allows for more movement). So maybe she's just on a climb that's comofortable for her (she did say she's climbed it many times in the past). That's probably why in my opinion...
The humane body can do so much when it can follow the mind.....AKIDO.....Steph shows us what mind over matter is.The reaper is at the bottom sayin....I might as well go shes not going to fall. Thanks for the goose bomps Steph.
Something is fucked in each of us brains. But some have a very disturbing, harmful to others madness while some have a peaceful, even beautiful one...
Way to go for all the beautiful people out there, living their lives in a beautiful way!
All I can think of when I watch that video is there is no way I could ever do something like that without a rope. I am just totally blown away someone can do something like whether they are crazy or not.

Free soloing... you don't need anyone else. Aside from a camera crew.
It's just nice to be by myself... with this camera man.
