A lot of rumors are flying around stating it was going to be released on Sunday (yesterday), but it looks like that rumor had no substance to it. I would say we will see the 1.8 update released early/mid September. Notch tweeted that they were using the feedback they got at PAX to tweak the game so the earliest we will probably see the update would be in a week.
