wow ! in 3:18 when she is looking to that strange guy with that instrument , she actually say : sorry Guybrush , I need to borrow your eye for a while.
and Guybrush is the same name of a character of Monkey Island series !!
would that be just a coincidence ? I mean , is a very strange name
in my opinion , the MI series is the best adventure games ever !
@System022 The Lucas Arts guys INVENTED the name Guybrush so it cannot be anything other than a reference. The Monkey Island games are the best adventure games ever made btw.
I am deeply sorry but TLJ pales in comparison with Legacy of Kain in terms of sound and especially voice acting.. LoK has the best voice acting of all games, hands down.. But TLJ is indeed one of the best adventure games i played, with the exception of the Myst series..
Why does the main charater walk soooo slowly? Why must she walk so loooog distances for no reason, e.g. at the docks or the tubes? It may be a fairly nice adventure but it definetly wasn´t THAT good: max. 7,0 out of 10. Try "Runaway" (1-3) or "The Book of Unwritten Tales". People (almost always the youger ones) who claim that this is the best game they played so far, really can´t have played many of them...
The characters talk much but nothing that makes you really like them. For the fantasy-creatures: you just don´t believe that they are there for thousands of years because they are just too random and generic. The backgrounds are nice, but they almost all look sterile and lifeless, so there´s almost no atmosphere created. The gameplay really could be better, too: Why isn´t it possible to exit the inventory via the right mouse button, and only via the right mouse button?
I really don´t know why this game is hyped so much. The story may be nice but it´s too 2-dimensional. You really don´t establish relationships to the other characters. As soon as they appear, they´re gone. Even the crow doesn´t make it, even with it´s poorly attempted kind of "humor". The dialogues are much too long and almost all pointless.
As far as Adventure games go, this is probably THE best i have ever played! I played them on the Commodore 64, and on the Commodore Amiga over the years and although many come close to TLJ, ie... Future Wars, Operation Stealth, Battletech, Labyrinth..etc... oh the list goes on and on.
I find it odd that the reviewer says that its odd that things are drawn? But i guess that can be forgiven given his age. Anyway, nice review, and a phenomenal game! finished it back in 2001 but not forgotten
Yeah the reason I find the style odd is infact my age. I'm just not used to the hand drawn graphics, but I can't say I don't like it. It really adds a nice artistic touch to the game, and I think that's one of the reasons it's one of my favorite games of all time.
I noticed you saw some of my other videos. Thanks for watching. :)
Yeah it would be strange for you, but don't let that deter you from reviewing other hand drawn titles from a while back :) What is strange for me is living in time now that has virtually NO 2D hand drawn pixel art anymore whereas a majority of my gaming years consisted of that, so as such i am not a fan of 3D rendering (i was initially).
And oh, you noticed i watched some of your other video's... I guess you also noticed my discussion got a little bit heated. lol.. sorry about that mate :(
oy u said sarah ryan its april ryan whats the go joe? if later in the game it is said her name is sarah in anther life or something do not reply because i am not that far yet and dont want to be spoiled but ether way good review u have shown me yet another great click and point that i did not know of for i am a fan of the genre and have been for many a year.
u obviuolsy havent played many click and point games (and if so u should because if u like this theres a lot more out there) because u cant interact wit that many people and no more then usaual items can be looked at or picked up. btw sarah ryan? dude u pineing over an ex or what.
tell me in your opinion assuming u have good taste in click and point games. what are some real good ones that have a deep story and good voice acting or just funny not deep. ive been playing games as such for years and already have played broken sword 1 and 2 to death and evey lucas arts game. are there others out ther that u know of that are worthy of playing? because thers a lot of shit but something decent would be great. recently played syberia so not that ether.
I haven't gotten to play many good ones, and the reason I said Sarah was because the voice actress who plays her is Sarah Hamilton and I just got confused for a sec.
You could've read the description to figure that out, though.
@blade004 IMO, the only one which beats it is the 1st Broken Sword game (NOT the 2nd). I thought it had better pacing, and I loved the 50's cartoon look of the thing. Nothing like as epic in scope or scale, but a very gripping package. Also it didn't have the background/model mismatch TLJ has, which the review mentioned.
But yeah, TLJ is a phenomenal game!! Only played it recently, but boy was I missing out
@blade004 I also love it but dont you think Syberia is a little bit better? Music, graphics, the way the story makes u feel? I don't know... i love TLJ 1 and 2 but i think Syberia 1 and 2 is better.
@samaelmagnus the guy says in the damb description that he made a mistake, he actually knows more than the average person about this shit, him own mind kind of cross referenced the actual voice actor's name with the actual character in the game, so it shows that he knows more about the game then you or I. What you should do is slap yourself for not recognizing this since you think you are smart
I don't quite understand your scoring system for games, as you say it has almost no replayability in a sense, yet scores a 7, what would be considered a 1/2 then?.. Bar'en that, decent review.
Good review, and I agree with you hands down on the voice acting. I've never heard better either.. heck It stacks up well against mainstream TV or movies. As far as the graphics goes, I'd compare it favorably against resident evil, probably the most popular of games of that era using combination 2D & 3D.
Oh and about the Sarah Ryan thing. :p You should just annotate a correction, probably save you much grief in the repeated comments.
wow, me calling you stupid ruined your day? that was easier than i thought! actually, it was your snooty attitude that started this kindergarten bullshit. all i did was correct you, sorry if im not like th other losers that read through all your comments left to see if they had said the exact same thing i did. so boo hoo. and "If you have a problem with me, say it here" did'nt I do that already? or do you have ADD?
I never said you ruined my day. Can't you see that I'm trying to figure out why you're so upset about this, but you just continue to insult me? It's very stupid, and I don't care. You win the argument. I'm done.

Have you read any of the other 10 comments where I answer this same question? It was a mistake. The voice actress for her is Sarah Hamilton, but I mixed up the names.
Please read the description next time before making such a fool of yourself.
I would increase the replay score as I have played it about every 18 months or so, and because their is so much in the game, their is ALWAYS something I have forgotten! :)
This game was truly amazing and i loved coming home from school or whatever and just playing it for, quite honesty, hours on end. I have a question though....Are there any other games out there that have the same sort of gameplay style as this did/does? I'd love to find a game like this again!!!
You're kidding right? I've only cleared this up ten times. I've answered this so many times, people have even made JOKES about the people like you who keep telling me about my mistake.
Really? I play it on Vista fine. Are you using the Steam version or the disc version? What's the specific problem you have? I'd love to help.
This game is a must-play. I'm glad you liked Dreamfall because TLJ will explain a lot more about it and bring you back home at times. You'll see what I mean.
If all fails in your attempts to fix it,
oreolvrsshane1987 has uploaded the entire game for anyone to watch. Sure it's not playing the game, but it's better than nothing.

Again back in 1999 the graphics of this game were fantastic.
Actually, this has already been done, and I appreciate your contribution to the gamers and fans of this game, but for one the cutscenes may be copyrighted by Funcom, and two I don't appreciate it when people advertse their own channels on my videos.
I'm sorry that was kind of mean. I am happy you are uploading the whole game. I only read "cutscenes," but to know someone is uploading the whole game makes me happy. So thanks very much, and I'm sure Funcom won't mind about the cutscenes.
Does this game (e.g the makers of the game etc.) have any links to LucasArts? I only wonder because the monkey is called Constable Guybrush, and I doubt the name would be the same by coincidence...
Best adventure game ever made. Great review overall, but talking over the game speech while saying how brilliant it is is a little dumb. You are reviewing the game, not showing us how clever you are. Silence is required sometimes as is pausing, to let the viewer see/hear what you are trying to say!
Oh, and on game of this calibre, couldn't a reason for replay just the pure enjoyment of the story/game? As in a great book or movie? Why does replay have to be based on technical things like different endings, etc? Surely the No.1 reason people (like me) is it is a great game that can be enjoyed more than once?
I belive I mentioned something like "playing it just for the fun of finding new things" or something like that, but you are right. And in my next reviews I will work on showing the user part of the music rather than just speaking over it. I did it in the Portal Review and didn't like it, but next time I'll try it again. Thanks for the comments and feedback. Just as Sxephil said in one of his recent videos, when you give me feedback I know you care about my videos. :)
The Longest Journey is better than Dreamfall imo, because it has such a homey feel when you play. The gameplay is fun, has a great story, is long, and makes you love the charactes. Dreamfall does most of the same minus the odd homey feel I got in The Longest Journey. I think you should get the first game and if you like it, definately get the second. They are both worth buying.
There are alternate endings for specific chapters; not the game entirely. These alternate chapter endings don't affect the rest of the game at all.
The one that comes to mind is when you either go to the club, or decide to watch a movie in your apartment building with...Sophie was it? Anyway whichever place you choose will give you different odd ending cinematics.
And i don't get it when you say the 3D models barely resemble anything at all !?!?!?.. You could sit me 20 meters away from the Monitor and i could still tell you what it is!. Anyway... you must really feel i am attacking you right now ( i am not ), but some of the comments are somewhat over the top. Still a great review buddy.. :)
I guess for me growing up with the C64 & Amiga, graphics like the one in TLJ i could really appreciate even if by today's standards they do not compare 3D modeling wise. I was actually gobsmacked by the graphics in this game at the time but that is mainly due to my preference of pixel art over rendered. I guess you just grew up in a different time game wise. Thanks for your warm response as well, keep up the good work and do more reviews :)
Why is it odd that everything is hand drawn? Virtually all games were hand drawn through the 80's & 90's and to me pixel art has a far more organic, detailed & beautiful representation of the world you are in than artificial looking rendered art does "any" day!. And needing to read 8 books at 30 seconds a pop is hardly a chore.. Try the C64 where half the entire of some games was reading.. Why is that a problem? Anyway, a great review! I finished the game in 2000 but still talk about it today!
The part with the library really didn't appeal to me. We are all different people, and we all have different opinions. I'm not asking you to agree with me.
You shouldn't have stopped reviewing games.

I totally agree with what you said. It's just an amazing universe. It immersed me like Middle Earth did when I watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
To be honest I haven't tried many adventure games, but the ones I have come nowhere near as good as this.
There are some great ones with different styles though. If you like text-based stuff, the King's Quest series is great.
Also there are websites you can find on google that have lists of adventure games. It's a great genre.

what do you think is better TLJ or dreamfall TLJ ??? plz answer me and tell me why
gohar619rey 3 years ago
The Longest Journey is better than Dreamfall imo, because it has such a homey feel when you play. The gameplay is fun, has a great story, is long, and makes you love the charactes. Dreamfall does most of the same minus the odd homey feel I got in The Longest Journey. I think you should get the first game and if you like it, definately get the second. They are both worth buying.

Did you say there were alternate endings???? I've played it many times and I've never gotten a different ending.

There are alternate endings for specific chapters; not the game entirely. These alternate chapter endings don't affect the rest of the game at all.
The one that comes to mind is when you either go to the club, or decide to watch a movie in your apartment building with...Sophie was it? Anyway whichever place you choose will give you different odd ending cinematics.

oh right right. I remember those, now we're on the same page.

Did you just called april ryan 'sarah ryan'?
funnyfurtuson 3 years ago
Yes, probably because I was thinking of the voice actor Sarah Hamilton when I was recording this.
Now if you had simply read the description before commenting you would know it was an honest mistake and it's not worth re-recording and reuploading.

I was kind of exaggerating, but I really dislike how blurry they are at a high resolution. It's cool-I know you weren't attacking me.
