If the Democrats want to do something for the people, they have to give the GOP something that serves the eilite. Then there's compromise where both sides trade billions in spending on what serves their interest. @rchin99 The public won't go along with automatic cuts. These Govt. cronies don't have the right to rob from SS & Medicare. Those programs haven't contributed one thin dime to our debt. SS is fully funded for the next 25 years, even then it would be able to fund 75% of it's obligation till 2085. Fix the economy and it won't come up short at all in 25 years. Medicare is fully funded for 10+ years, at which time only the Hospital trust will fall little short. Healthcare costs need to come down

And I think I read something the other day where the House tried to add a balanced budget to the Constitution, and both sides voted against it. You better hope the GOP don't take power and ram their agenda through, they will rob the public of every dime we have left. They don't care about a balanced budget, they want to continue funding their interest now that we're broke.

I could organize a committee of school kids who would figure this out. Republicans have to agree to some tax cuts, and Democrats have to agree to modifications to social security and medicare. And the only way to fix the budget is big cuts in those Defense contracts. When you raise Defense spending from under 300 billion a year in 2001, to 1+ trillion a year today, that's a big problem. Even if they make these puny cuts by robbing us, the debt over the next 10 years will climb to 24 trillion. The GOP call that a balanced budget.
