The formation of open fractures in an analogue model (Structural Geology)

to what extent will dissolution via groundwater entering the fractures have of the stresses of the fractures? just curious

@nickoswoos That would depend on the rock type being modelled. In the case of basalts the effect of will be minimal, but when carbonates are modelled, the effect could be considerable. One additional effect is the filling of fractures by calstic sediments, washed in by surface flow and rain water. This closes the fractures with clay again.
