  • this is the video they used for the "derek trucks shreds" video LOL

  • DT is disturbing

  • Good video. I know Derek has been around for a long time. I got a DVD festival with Derek's playing in it and he is really good. Great in this band too and anywhere he plays.

  • Love Mike Mattison's voice. Derek's playing too. They make me want to search for the old blues artists and listen to them too.

  • the drummer was trying to wear his ass out

  • He is just incredible and I haad the amazing experience of meeting after an Allman Brothers concert. He is a humble person too.

  • I've became obsessed with Derek's playing, it's phenomenal, but I really cannot stand the singers voice, which makes it basically impossible for me to listen to their albums.

  • @StockholmSyndrome08 Be patient. The Tedeschi Trucks band is releasing their new album soon and Susan will be lead vocals on most songs, similar to how the Soul Stew Revival worked. Mattison will still be around though

  • @thenut8522 How do you like the album?

  • @StockholmSyndrome08

Wow...really? He has an amazing voice. Well I guess it's a matter of preference, I agree with you on Derek's guitar playing though.

  • @StockholmSyndrome08 Hmmm...I respectfully disagree on the subject of Mike Mattison's voice. I think he's an exceptional blues singer, and he fits the band's sound really well. But you are certainly right about Mr. Trucks' playing...its something else!

  • @theatlantisrise Yeah guess its just a matter of opinion really. I don't mind it, in small doses but after a while I start craving something less gritty and raspy. I honestly do think if he had a more commercial sounding singer, Derek's music might get more recognition.

  • @StockholmSyndrome08 Tried to include a link but I don't think that's permissible on this site. Search "TRUCKS & TEDESCHI BAND - Midnight In Harlem" here on YouTube. It's in the soul vein, and absolutely stellar. (IMHO).

  • @robinjones251 ' have the cd, midnight in harlem is truly a showcase for tedeschi's powerful, yet soulful voice and dtruck's playing is ....... rather incredible. The two of the together are mighty fine.

  • God can't play this.

  • they see me tro....Hey,thats actually pretty impressive!

  • God exists, otherwise there couldn't be something as beautiful as this.

  • Can you tel lme: WHO IS THE SINGER ??

  • @suedwind Mike Mattison

  • Derek is a great musician & person, but in terms of best on the planet....there are many Brazilian guitarists that would play circles around these type of players

    -JD

  • Wouldn't it be cool if poets learned to spell?

  • Probably the best slide player next to Duane himself. Pretty damn good performance for the whole band.

  • i see clapton at the albert hall in 2006 and was blown away by the dude with the ponytail id never seen b4 turns out it was derek and my ears have been thankfull ever since

  • Pussy Is the only thing

  • Go check out Sonny Landreth.

  • Amazing. It's like Al Green in a Coricidin bottle.

  • derek trucks and warren haynes......and unstopable combination, add in claptain and reynolds and you would have the most amazing guitar quartet on the planet

  • iff that does'nt move you...you must be dead.

  • tres tres bon !

  • Derek is an incredible guitarist. The dude wails, and I love the classic SG.

  • great singing, and just amazing guitar playng, dereck trucks is the maaaan

  • Ok. I've never listened to Derek, but some people were talking about him on a John Mayer video. 15 seconds in... I'm amazed.

  • @Cbluesrocker Check it out his newest live album Roadsongs. It will turn your brain into shit.

  • I think i got a buzz off of that solo... wow just amazing... it just takes your breath away.... wow

  • DEREK & MIKE THE GREAT MUSICIANS !

  • et vive le blues

  • 村上春樹氏のお気に入りだそうです。

  • He is amazing..... I just wish he was just a little more aggresive.

  • @Beck1521 Derek get real loose after 3:44, but look out for 4:28

  • @Beck1521 you mean visually?

  • crowd sucks

  • I bet even Duane is looking down on this, thinking "Damn! This guy's got some chops!"

  • @Fragmaster3000 Duane is proud

  • Derek Trucks is Derek Trucks; completely origional.

  • It don't get any better than this version! Hokey Pete's this is one of my top 10 blues bands from all time. I get giddy almost when I hear them play...but I'm just an ole woman what lives in a shoe~~

  • how do you add four hundred more like buttons? haha

  • Man playin' drums is so fun XD

  • Derek Truck is guitar god!!! His version of this song is the best played ever!!! This is fantastic!

  • The best slide player alive.

  • I'm normally not a fan of Mike Mattison's singing style, but he did a excellent job here, as did everyone else!

  • @4rainbowed I've got to agree with you. He's great on this one.

  • went to macon to see derek trucks it was the coldest day of the year in an outside venue and he made it feel like it was 90 degrees when he started burning it up

  • i would learn this song but i dont think i can handle the intro.

derek can prolong notes better than anyone i've ever seen. guru indeed.

  • @muga69 Derek is sick at those, but they aren't as hard as you think. You just need to have volume. He's got 2 Super Reverbs (each with 4 10" Speakers) running at about a 7. The sustain comes from the tube saturation, coupled with the higher output pups he has in his SG. Most people are never in a situation where they can turn up that loud, which is why his tone is so unique.

  • check out Scrap-o-matic

  • For any of you out there who remember Derek's video's when he was just a wee lad...check out youtube channel, the leadheads. Keep an eye on that young fella.

  • I saw them about 2mo ago and I still haven't come done! What a show. Oh, and Mike was stil with them 2mo ago.

  • bone chilling...

  • It's funny how some guitarists speak to your head, to your intellect.... Derek bypasses that.... straight from the heart... straight to the heart!

  • fuckin dirt nastay

  • Who is the singer, he's something else.

  • mike mattison. they met him on the subway in ny

  • Thanks for that info. He compliments the band so well along with Susan Tedeschi of course. Amazing to feature Two such accomplished Blues vocalists in One band & what a guitarist in Derek Trucks, it's a shame they're not as big in the UK as they deserve to be.

  • No problem. I love Derek Trucks Band! They are starting to grow in popularity over here in the U.S. A lot in the last 2 or 3 years. Susan is amazing too. Soul Stew Revival is

  • @strofca yeh it is a shame they're not so big, tho i saw them here on tour a few months back. and it was such a small venue, only a coupke of hundred. was so nice. intimate and not the usual crowd pushing and etc. and the band were just walking about before and after. even had a chance to meet and talk to derek. was pretty sweet.

  • @strofca thats because the Brits have taste in music like the food they eat... BLAND! Jeff Beck is a huge example of a Bland British Musicians that gets way over hyped

  • Wow, that's a bit extreme! I think there's Bland both sides of the Pond. I've spent a lot of time Stateside & I've heard & eaten my fair share of "Bland" & I've scraped a lot of it off my shoes too. Having said that I am becoming ever more fond of Mr D. Trucks & his band.

Perhaps it's time we all chased Mr Simon Cowell & his cronies out of town before they addle every young brain on the Planet.

  • fuck off. you dont know shit. jeff beck is one of the most exciting and emotive guitarists from the era thats still playing today. grow some ears

  • @disavowed101 what a ridiculous comment

  • @Flickajak mike mattison i believe

  • Thanks, he compliments the band so well although I believe he's no longer with DT.

  • damn, really? that's too bad... he really does go well with the band

  • Excellent video, wonderful tone. What key is he playing in.

  • @johnny145100 he's playing in A, tuned to open E, EBEG#BE

  • I heard SG's are low-action. How does play slide so well

  • you can adjust the action on any guitar + he's one of the most amazing slide players around today, he's had years of practice

  • does anyone know what pickups he uses in this SG?

    his tone is awesome

  • Seymour Duncan Antiquities

  • omg i just cried . That WAS AMAZEING! im buying a slide right now!

  • Whoever got to see this live are all spoiled, this is unreal. I get chills listening to these songs, derek trucks is on another level.Hes like the prodigy of our time.

  • Unreal. The best slider around. Mike Madison does an awesome job on the vocal. One of my fave songs and this is close to being the best rendition IMHO.

  • what concert is it from? is it realised on a dvd?

  • Makes you wanna say AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH Fuckin' A!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Seen his band once and seen him and warren haynes together in the allman brothers twice. It was freakin' awesome everytime.

  • I'm so glad I got to see him with Clapton in 2007.

I had never heard of him at the time but I definitely knew who he was after.

One of the best guitar players on the planet.

  • heres a tip people. If u dont have something nice to say about a vid, shutup and dont give crappy comments.

  • @amen brotherJInnestigers amen

  • @zzoppsme thank you. That just bugs me, If you dont like a vid go watch something else instead of bashing something u arent liking . It just annoys me.

  • @JInnestigers ha... i so second that!

  • @JInnestigers No shit .....i couldn't count how many times as a kid my dad would say ....."If you don't have anything nice to say.... then don't say anything at all.

  • does anybody know what model That SG is (no pickguard, vibrato w/ arm missing...etc...) Possibly his own concoction?

    Thanks

  • Hey pianoman9494,

It's a modified Gibson USA SG '61 reissue with factory vibrato, which has had the tailpiece modified and a stopbar tailpiece installed.

  • It's just a 61 reissue, but he puts a stop-bar tailpiece on it. I hear he also puts his own tone and volume pots in.

With all the time he spends up at the high end, I'm surprised he doesn't use the 24 fret SG Diablo.

  • Slide doesnt really need 24 frets you invent them as you go up, plus the neck pickups are further away from the harmonic, which is why alot of players do not prefer to use the 24 fret guitars.

  • The longer scale would change his tone considerably. It would be punchier, and more mellow with less attack. Kinda like playing a Strat with humbuckers in it. I'm almost certain his pots are all standard, but he did do quite a few mods on his Fender Super Reverb when he used it. Now he uses PRS amps, and was likely using one here.

  • Is that all he uses now? I thought the PRS amps were only for ABB. I think it would be a shame if he let an endorsement change his setup for dTb.

  • Well, that's part of it. If they're going to give him free equipment, it's probably better for the company if he uses it. Thus, they would require him to use it.

  • he's using the super reverb in his one but he is using the new Dallas with DtB now and I think it sounds better. It cuts through the mix with the heavy drums the Rico' plays

  • He keeps both onstage, but there's subtle differences in his tone from one to the other. I know for a fact he uses the PRS exclusively for the ABB because he said it has a more distinct tone and blends better. He chalked it up to competition with 2 drummers, guitar, bass, percussion, and organ. There's a lot of noise onstage and he needed something that stood out a little more.

  • These guys are sorta right. All SG 61 reissues have stop-bar tailpieces, what they are reffering to is the maestro plate that connects to the strap lock on the rear of the instrument. It is there purely for cosmetics, nothing else. (It's like getting chrome rims)

  • Thanks, That's what I thought...No pick guard = just another cosmetic as well...Nice looking SG, Plus you dont have the hassle of tuning issues w/ using the stop bar..

    Thanks, Pianoman...

  • @jsl209 Thats baptist church talk.. speaking in tongues are we....?

  • @jsl209 Thats baptist church talk.. speaking in tongues are we....?

  • I'm sure you're right, but in 50 years, that day hasn't come for me yet. You, on the other hand found my last nerve in one sentence (but I respect your right to be wrong)

  • for me there are just these three chords .. for example: E and then A .. and then the turn around with B or some other small variations... sure, its brilliant.. but after 3 years of playing blues :D:D its really too much.. anyway, derek trucks is still a kind of "different" oder "individual" blues guitarists.

  • there are at least a thousand different ways to play those three chords. Playing the blues means know them all plus a little more.

  • blues is not for everyone...you need real soul...great version of an old song...lots of great songs only got two or three chords...hear his soul speaking around 3:00-4:00? Love it or leave it alone...

  • I loved it too.. my point is just, that anything in life is getting boring after some time... and also it is good to look for something new. otherwise you stand still in your development..

  • I must correct my self.. I still love it

  • Floyd derek plays more then just a blues player,he is influenced by jazz +world music too.Songlines is an excellent example of how diverse him+ the bands musical tastes are. Many blues players do get stuck playing those 145 changes and never really move too far beyond that. Derek however has moved beyond that and is continuing to grow musically. Its good fun playing blues changes too because the chords are so at hand mentally that freedom of expression musically is easier for experienced players.

  • hes so amazing. picking technique is so cool and so unique. love it

  • best slide guitar player on the planet

  • @mitzfah13 best player

  • @mitzfah13 You said it!

  • @mitzfah13 ry cooder

  • @mitzfah13

F that...One of the best guitar players. Period.

  • @vixiv614 not to many have that soul hes got. He dosent open his eyes once while hes playing. The dude is a genius.

  • This is something very special. Holy cow, can he ever make it talk. Metal shredders should take a tip from him on how to tell a story with the notes.

  • My opinion is Derek doesnt really show emotion, but he plays it.

  • yeah because he's really concentrated on his music and on what he's doing... but damn he has a burnin hot playing

  • Its also kinda hard to jump around or even move while playing slide cuz it will mess up your intonation. Especially the stuff hes playing.

But like you said, he plays it

  • Nah, hendrix was like our modern day versio of Mozart or Beethoven or Strauss, he anticipated most of the music that has come in the last 40 years since his death, and few players had such a wide vairty of styles. And whuile his technical abilites may not be as amazing today as they were 40 years ago, in 40yrs the same will probably be said of Derek. Each generation is techically better than it;s predecessor, but technique alone does not the musician make!

  • as Rory Gallagher said "technique is not enough, to be a truly great player it has to come from somewhere else" someone walked up to Hendrix once & said what is it like to be the best guitar player in the world? he said you"ll have to ask Rory Gallagher.

  • I agree. I also think that generally speaking comparing players is counter-productive, but I sually feel compelled to speak up when people dis on hendrix, simply because his contributions to music are often under appreciated, forgotten or overlooked today. But all players are great in thier own ways I think. Peace.

  • what tuning did he used in this song?

  • Open E Tuning. Awesome solo!

  • Holy sonofabitch!

I have no idea how he stays so deadpan, if I was capable of doing anything even close to that awesome, I would be making "guitar face" the entire time, lol.

  • he's an animal! and his band ain't bad either

  • don't blame your weak stomach on the food.

  • Great playing and especially singing.Keep rolling

  • god his style and tone is incredible

did derk play this in open E?

  • Yes'm.

  • In my opinion Duane played the better stuff without the slide (at least on the Fillmore album), I think Derek is the best on slide.

  • I agree. Derek is ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as the 81st best guitarist of all time (if that ranking really means anything). I would have LOVED to have seen a slide duo between him and SRV. That would have been GREAT!

  • derek puts modern radio music to absolute shame...

  • Heard Derek for the first time about a week ago. I've been playing guitar for many years. I've heard many, many great players, creating all styles of wonderful music, but I've never, ever been blown away like I was when I first heard this amazing young man play. The level of emotion he generates is staggering. This guy's playing is so emotive at times it's almost unbearable. What a talent and a great band, too.

  • Well said my man well said.

  • Saw this guy at Doheny '09, he was UNBELIEVABLE.

  • Saw him Monday night in Fargo ND !!!!

    WONDERFUL<AMAZING<Show

  • derek trucks is the person 2 take the blues 2 the next generation........

  • one man show love it

  • Right, because the rest of the band is devoid of any talent?

The Derek Trucks band wouldn't be the Derek Trucks Band without that rhythm section.

  • Too damn good!!!

  • He dont live in anyones shadow, just look at him,,HE`S AN ALLMAN !!!

  • There is a LOT more to being a great guitarist than shreding. There is nothing that I've seen guthrie govan do that compairs to Derek's solo from 430 - 442. His touch and feel are incredible. I can here words in that solo!

  • *jaw drops*

god DAMN that solo was beastly

  • im seeing him on june the 7th dundas square!!!!!

  • I'm just "average" myself but EC hasn't asked me to play with him in front of thousands so WTF is up with that nozxart?

I'm sure you're much better than average so next time you talk to EC tell him he's a worthless string banger and I'd bet he'll let you front for him!

  • hahaha

your stupidity is funny...derek happens to be one of the best living guitar players on earth...if not the best

and he's already made the top 100 guitarists of all time list and has been professional since 14

but i guess any average player can do that huh? dumbass

  • Derek is a really something unique. Very knowledgable and broadminded musically. Also one of the humblest young guitarists around which is a RARE thing. I wish him a long and prosperous career.

  • Comment removed

  • We owe people like Jimmy Hendrix, SRV, Johnny Winter and the like a lot, like future generations will owe Derek Trucks. We are all "standing on the shoulders of giants", thats how progress is made.

  • Derek trucks was 13 when he started playin with the alman brothers he is such a prodigy

  • Secondly, Shredthemstrings388-U have to listen to JH in context. Today's young players are 2 & 3 generations removed from the people who were initially influenced by Hendrix. Every generation has their influential players, and Trucks is one of them. A brilliant cat. But JH changed the way ALL rock players view their instrument. Everyone who uses the things he innovated must pass thru him. He changed guitar forever. I'm not a JH freak, but he certainly is way more than "a memory of a legend"!

  • Whoops Shredthemstrings388-that is an inaccurate statement. Only a few players a century come along and change the way the instrument is approached by ALL players. They change the vocabulary. Hendrix invented flange and chorus, the screaming lead, whammy abuse, dive bombs, use of harmonics in melody, using 'outside' tonalities in rock, stereo guitar, guitar to create tonal texture and color, and was the first to use a saturated tone as his primary instrument. And the list goes on.

  • i hate when people argue over shit with no clear answer. he is an awesome player regardless.

  • seeing this after seeing the "derek trucks shreds" vid is so weird.lol.

trucks is the best guitar player alive today, btw.

  • yeah hi is!!!

  • wow. I love it! haha. Who wouldn't? Beautiful cover.

  • Derek trucks is my inspiration for playing slide he is the best.

  • Derek has done right by coosing black singer and drummer. ;-)

  • that fucking tone is to die for

  • BEST VERSION EVER!!! 1000* out of 10...

  • Seeing him live, was awesome....This is some seriouse guitar playing!!

  • It's sad that the band doesn't come to spain. Spain isn't in this world for most artist. I pray to see them live almost once in my life.

  • I think that we can all unanimously agree that Derek Trucks is the greatest guitarist of our generation. He is the Hendrix of the new millennium.

  • Lot better than hendrix, both in terms of personal skill and in terms of soulfulness.

  • Don;t know if I would call him Hendrix just yet,. but he and Joe Bonamassa I agree are the best players of the current era!

  • I'm going to see them tonight in LA!!!

  • I just got my tix for Ft. Wayne, Indiana...

it's not til June, but tix went on sale today.

    EXCITED for ya!!!! PEACE
