People hate me for this statement but... if the lights are turned out and there are 2 guitars playing the average person cannot distinguish between the two. Sorry but is true just like if someone mowed your lawn while you weren't home. You wouldn't be able to tell if they used a "JOHN DEERE" its all commercialism and unfortunately we as the american people fall for it hook, line. and sinker!! We are just buying a name...
@bituco94 A car is a means of getting you from point A to point B and that is all. I'm not trying to be a smart alec but you as a fellow musician would have to agree that if you can truly play it doesnt matter what name is on the instrument. The rest would be how we have been proframmed into thinking that we need the (SUPERIOR) product to achieve our said goals.
@64donpro I agree it does have very strong brand power, and to an audience, they will not recognize the difference. But for the person who's playing the guitar, he/she will notice the difference in feel, sound, quality of the instrument. Just like a car. None of your coworkers could tell by looking at you if you came to work in a Ferrari or Hyundai. But for you, you know the difference in feel, driving experience & power.
So the guitar is mainly for the guitarist's experience, not the audience.
All that hand craftsmanship, but they didn't show all the CNC machines that do most of the work that used to be done by hand. If you get a custom Martin guitar, they will do all the handwork and you will pay for it...generously. You can't have 650 people working who can turn out over 500 guitars a week, and everything done by hand. Very misleading video.
I own a 000 28EC and take the Martin Factory tour every year or so. One of my favorite places to be. A testimonial to quality craftsmanship, made in the USA.
I play Bluegrass Music and trust me a Martin is a great guitar.I have a D-15 and wanted a D-28 or a D-35 but never can get one.I get outbid on Ebay if I try to buy one.
Bluegrass music made Martin what it is today. No mention of the greatest guitar picker of all time Tony Rice, or Lester Flats, Larry Sparks, Jimmy Martin, Clearance White, Mac Wiseman, Marty Stuart, just a few to mention. Bluegrass players use Martin guitars more then anyone. Martin guitars are found in Bluegrass, more then any other music in the world. Martin needs to give credit where it is do. Martin makes most of their money from Bluegrass Music. Sana Cruz and Collings are going to start.
@bluegrasssingingman Kicking Martins ass. Hey stop cutting off the hand that feeds you all. Hey Martin why do you never mention Bluegrass? Why do act like you are ashamed of Bluegrass music, and who plays Bluegrass? They are the ones filling you're pockets, with the most money, and made you're name for you.
The Difference between Martin and Taylor is that, Taylor Is made by machine, which is not that accurate Machines don't have feelings and machines are based on calculations.......Martin IS Built by Hand and the human hand is so sensitive, it can feel if something is wrong............MARTIN IS TRADITION.
@sokkasmaster wait machines are not that accurate??
taylor guitars are made from 1 template, which was made by hand, and is chosen as the best variant...then the machines replicate that with pinpoint accuracy. hence Taylors are all very consistent, very similar to the master plan, which was designed and built by hand... thats a good thing...
I inherited a 1936 orchestra style Martin from my grandpa. Even after 75 years that guitar is in almost perfect condition. I also have a Martin mandolin from him, which is really rare. I don't beluvd they make them anymore. But I also have a d-28 I bought myself a couple years ago. Fantastic instuments.
If you go to MelodeeMusic in Leesburg VA, don't believe anything he says. He'll say whatever will get you buy inventory that isn't moving if he thinks he can fool you. I have short fingers & he convinced me that a wider neck is easier to play with short fingers & I spent 2 hrs there & ended up spending over a grand on a Martin that has the widest neck they make.
I LOVE my Martin D28. She's an old friend. Had her since 1974, I'd have my Martin buried with me but my daughter would kill me (ha-ha). She's not looking forward to me leaving this world but she's looking forward to owning my Martin - and how!
@xxkman If you look at the price Furch is ahead of Taylor Martins etc.. I haven't played on Breedlove tho, but luthier made guitar are always better than those made in factorys like taylor or matin. sry for my english i was in a big hurry when i wrote this
@xxkman Every Furch I have played recently has been stunning for the price, each has out play the similar spec' martin next to it and the Martin was usually 2-3 times the price.
The last 8 Martins I have played, including 2 custom shops have been dead.
Just so you know I didn't any of those Furch guitars instead I bought a Furch Acoustic bass, I know I know but I couldn't stop playing the bloody thing.
Remember Furch are also sold in different markets i.e. the US as Stanford (?)
Martin's are very COOL!! Im an old GUILD junkie at heart, depending on what you are playing esp Folk I really like Martin on certain songs b/c they are 'warm', GUILD's are more DARK .. . Nick Drake's material typify GUILD. Gibson although being 'WARM' sounding aswell I prefer for mor Rhythm parts . . . the new Gibsons of Bosman are very cool esp SOnG Writer model. The martin factory is a fantastic place. Going back for a second visit. Boy would I love to work there. This may be a factory but it is craft. The guitars pass through many hands in the production process and I could feel the love. Nice little museum and in the lobby there are guitars you can play on. I never forget when they open the doors into factory area and smell of the wood.
I just got a Martin 000X1AE and I love it. the reactions i've gotten from people has helped validate my choice. I only wish I could have gotten one made in the USA as mine was made from Mexico. The guitar originated in Europe, centuries before the USA existed. But the electric guitar was developed in the USA. I just wish I had the money to buy a Martin guitar!
@blumenthol they are nice but yes priced high . Also like the sound and feel of Fenders and Takamines if i spelled that right ive got me a nice fender coustic now
@blumenthol LOL what a JOKE You won't buy one because embarassing around poorer players. Sounds like words of false, Dems and Libs. I bet you voted for Obama.
@blumenthol I agree i would buy one but Guild guitars i find are just as good. Well better for me they have a style for all players and at a price even the poor man like me can save a up a couple of years and get. also just about anyone ive ever met that has a martin is a rich prick who just has one to show it off, they know a few chords there heart is not even in the music though they can play ok.
My name is Martin :D I'm only 13, but when I grow up I want 2 start making guitars. Think of this: Your son wants to start at guitar , but haven't that much money to spend. The next birtday he got a Gibson Les Paul custom! lol spoiled
Guitars first appeared in Spain, they are a derivative of Oud, a musical instrument first invented by Arabs in Iraq and then moved to Spain through a Musician and Poet called Zeriab. From "oud', classical guitars were inspired. Then Martin from Germany inspired the acoustic guitar from the Spanish classical guitar. The Musicians Guild in Germany refused to let him be a member because he plays what they called "a piece of furniture". So he went to America, and made what's now Martin Guitars.
I've had one for about 15 yrs now. They get sweeter with age! The wood will darken, they mature very well! No splits, neck stays right where it should, the sound just gets better! Unless they are beat to crap, they hold their value. Expect a few dings over the years. Typical thing with mahogany.. it's soft! You turn, and bang! You grit your teeth and say F&%K!! That's just how it is. Doesn't matter what Martin you have, the name alone speaks for itself! Love my DM! Enjoy yours:)
The unplugged version of 'Layla' is featured in this video. But slaw88 wanted to know the song and the very end. This song is indeed 'Change The World' by Eric Clapton.
I love my martin!!! I own a 000-28EC Eric Clapton from 2003. I have put it side by side with almost every guitar you could think of from almost every year you could come up with and I will still take my 000-28EC over them all! Thankyou for your generations of faithful service and perfection!
I was just there a few hours ago (first visit) to drop off my 00-17 from 1947 for repair.
WOW...what a factory man!! That place is huge and if you go you have to TAKE THE TOUR and see their museum, it is spectacular! I can't wait to go back and go on another tour...LOL!
My Martin was made there and I am the luckiest man to own one. It makes music a delight...I can't even entertain the idea of playing on another brand.
I'VE BEEN PLAYING GUITAR FOR 34 YEARS, AND MY LOVE STARTED BY WATCHING MY GRANDFATER PLAY A 1936 MARTIN GUITAR. HAVING HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT THE MARTIN FACTORY AS A CHILD INSPIRED ME AND IS ONE OF MY FONDEST MEMORIES. Ohhh how I wanted to have my picture on the wall to next to my idols playing a MARTIN. Childhood Dreams can inspire a life. Thank you MARTIN for the for inspiring so many dreams and great music throught the "handcrafted" years of excellence!
The flatpicking on the first part in the background is an instrumental called Salt Creek and it is played by 3 legends of the acoustic guitar, Doc Watson taking the first solo, Norman Blake taking the second solo and the great Tony Rice playing the third solo. Great video thanks for posting.
I recently purchased the D16GT and I absolutely love this guitar. The price was within my budget and it sounds as good as the much higher priced Martins. I would not order one from the factory though. Maybe go to a Guitar Center where you can play it (and feel it) and compare it with other guitars so you know it's the right one for you.
I have been thinking of buying a quality Dreadnought for a while now. Ater watching this, I decided I had better check into the Martin Guitars. The employees actually CARE about what they are putting out. Congrats to Martin, and a special thank you to thier employees. God bless the U.S.A.
Do they give out free samples? :(

or were influenced by them.
leo fender was german. adolph rickenbacker was from switzerland, but was a german emmigrant.

That's just how it is. Doesn't matter what Martin you have, the name alone speaks for itself! Love my DM! Enjoy yours:)

Can someone please tell me the name of the last song? It start at 4:02.

alexlara1975 3 years ago
no its 'Layla'
xdivinebladex 3 years ago
The unplugged version of 'Layla' is featured in this video. But slaw88 wanted to know the song and the very end. This song is indeed 'Change The World' by Eric Clapton.
alexlara1975 3 years ago
ah my mistake. i heard layla nearing the very end so i automatically assumed that that's what he meant
xdivinebladex 3 years ago
It's change the world. Layla is before this song.

00:54 seconds into the video is where the tune Salt Creek starts by the way.
ZaneFairchild 3 years ago
