  • "It's remarkable to see"

  • i am in love with marlon brandooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • the first guy talking looks like Brando

  • @hellokittydolll He does certainly not

  • @hellokittydolll that's james caan... you would've known if you watched the movie once.

  • @Prechtl91 I clearly haven't.

  • @hellokittydolll you should ;)

  • I love how Coppola was drawn to Brando like a Moth to the flame, even after this he couldn't resist hiring him again for Apocalypse Now. He knew that despite all of Brando's bullshit, he would get exactly what he needed.

  • @darkcowboyhero Yeah man, classic Director/Actor relationship.

  • Had the president of Paramount pictures NOT let Marlon B.,do the Godfather role,he'd find a horse's head the next morning, beside him.......

  • where's the full screen testttttttt

  • what is this from? behind scenes of the godfather and what not?

  • the best fucking actor!!

  • Frank Sinatra had fought with Mario Puzo about the Johnny Fontaine part of the book. In many ways Johnny mirrored Frank's real life. (The women, the fledgling career, the "come-back" in a war picture, mob ties, etc.) Frank confronted Mario at a restaurant shortly after the book came out. Mario was excited since he was a fan of Sinatra's. Frank caused a scene and then tried to sue for damages. When the movie was in pre-production, Sinatra tried his best to get the role of Don Vito Corleone.

  • @gwgane3 where did you find that out?

  • @TomatoBasil23 Several good books about Sinatra. "Frank - The Voice" by James Kaplan, is one of them. I'm a big Sinatra buff. The first time I saw Godfather, I was about 6 years old and my father sat down and explained to me that people get shot and they say dirty words. I heard relatives talk about the movie a lot, so I was excited. I watched it and was blown away by everything. It redefined movie making.

  • @gwgane3 great post mate

  • hahaha coppola's brando impression is funny

  • why did paramount not want brando?

  • @sonicGTX2 they couldn't handle the bad assary of him

  • @sonicGTX2 he kept on delaying his roles and not appearin on sets of his latest films and he was an activist to the Indians' people group which many peple bak in the 60's and 70's didnt like 4 some reason

  • YOu can't imagine Godfather without marlon brando

  • @12poopie Paramount's first choice was Lawrence Olivier. Even Coppola admitted that "Sir Larry" would have been great. But Olivier turned them down. Paramount then wanted Anthony Quinn, but Coppola strongly objected and pushed for Brando. Paramount didn't want Brando because his previous few movies had flopped and Brando had the "rep" as being very difficult to work with. Brando knew all of this and agreed to Paramount's conditions. He really wanted the part.

  • RIP MARLON BRANDO

Probably God made him an offer he can't refuse... BEST ACTOR EVER

  • @BrandyLOVEEEEE well, he made an offer to god couldnt refuse

  • didnt he put tampon in his mouth ?

  • The greatest character role of all time. Deserved the oscar. A true great has passed

  • @mamaowar Acually he did get an Oscar but he turned it down in protest at Hollywoods treatment of Native Americans

  • @thebritish25 By hiring an actress to play a Native American at the Oscar's. He accepted it, but did not personally accept it. He did not deny it.

  • So Brandon did this film for nothing? Just the back end??

  • Brandon did the movie for NOTHING?? Just the back end?

  • @PepperWhite62 but he was given a percentage of the films total gross revenue which god knows how much that is today.

  • then he changed the kleenex to balls of steel :]

  • al pacino was robbed of his OSCAR!!!

  • As a matter of fact, Brando sent an american indian girl to decline the Oscar because of the way Hollywood has allways mistreated the indians`image.

  • @AldoVinnie He didnot send an American Indian girl. I dont know what you call them but i think they were native Americans.

  • @viplovem He sent an ACTRESS playing a Native American.

  • Viva Brando!

  • what a tragedy it would have been to not have Brando as the Godfather..I mean I dont care how much of a pain in the ass he was (which he was) he is stil the only person who could have played that role the way he did..if it wasnt him we wouldnt be talking abot the godfather all these years later..and there wouldnt have been a godfather 2 you can bet on that

  • @stankupdaplace Al Pacino is the reason for me and many others. Brando played Vito better than anyone else could have but he had a minor role in the film. The story is really about Michael.

It was a shame and a real outrage that Pacino got nominated for best supporting actor when he had more onscreen time and a better developed character than Brando had.

And thats nothing against Brando. He did an amazing job. He is just not the main character.

  • wow

  • wahhahahahaahhaahahhahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • Coppola originally wanted Euro actor Joseph Calleia who played the cop Pete Menzies in Orson Welles A Touch of Evil. But Calleia had to decline for health reasons.

  • test

  • type 'drew schofield contenders' into you tube watch and smile funny funny

  • wat edition do you have to buy to get the special features?

  • For the movie, they made a special prop which he put in his mouth to make his jaws droop--see the extra's on dvd. It isn't cotton or kleenex

  • Kleenex's in the mouth, now I finally know.

  • I read elsewhere that he used cotton balls, not sure what the source was..Francis would probably know though I guess lol

  • when Al pacino gets beat up by the copper.. he opens his mouth too much in one scen and you can see ctton balls, when he is supoosed to be swollen... but i bet nobody cared cause he was giving a great performance

  • he and jack are my favorites

  • brilliant actor

  • Marlon Brando....the greatest.

  • Marlon Brando is the best of the best of all times.

And Jack Nicholson besides being friend and neighbor, has always been a great admirer and follower of Marlon Brando.

    Marlon Brando is the nº1forever.

  • NO way. P Ramlee is way better than Marlon

  • P Ramlee is a good Malaysian artist... Acting, Directing, Singing and Comedy... He would have won Oscars and Grammies if he were a Caucasian... Sad, no Hollywood artist has the same range of talent as P. Ramlee

  • even though its been said many times.

marlon brando is the greatest actor of all time. period. end of discussion. every actor knows it. every director knows it.

  • "marlon brando is the greatest actor of all time. period. end of discussion"

I would agree that Brando was the greatest actor up unto this point in history. To exempt all future performances is to miss the understanding of what an 'opinion' is. There is no 'period' or 'end' to the discussion unless you are prepared to make it an official dogma of society that everyone must believe as you do.

Such a place would be like 1984.

  • Wow- I can't believe you would read into a harmless hyperbolic statement like that and say that this guy is trying to end all discussion in some mad dictatorship that worships shrines of Marlon Brando. He's using a figure of speech. He doesn't want to impinge on anyone's freedom to have an opinion, you overly sensitive drama queen.

  • I've said my piece. You can take or leave it. I'm not asking for any kind of permission from you to do anything.

  • Your head is up your ass, but hey, maybe you like the view from up there...

  • "from up there"

Your grasp of the English language is horrible.

  • Nah, Jack Nicholson is better.

  • P Ramlee is much better

  • ha ha ha ha ha ha... u r funny!!!

Marlon Brando is the Best of the Best of all Time. "period"

But ok Ramlee is funny :)))

  • Jack Nicholson is the n 2

Marlon Brando is the n 1

  • what are you fuckin' saying?

coppola wanted only al pacino (the number one) for the role of Michael

  • Be civil. All Cluebert's saying is that there were many actors who either wanted the lead roles or declined them.

Of course, De Niro did try out for Sonny and Michael, but Coppola felt there was a certain edge or charisma that Pacino had.

  • sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the studio wanted nicholson, redford or hoffman but coppola wanted pacino.

  • Best movie

    Best OST

    Best Actor

    R.I.P Marlon Brando

  • I don't like it.

  • @HeathLedger1979

    Best ost, surely you jest.

  • Best movie

    Best OST

    Best Actor

    R.I.P marlon brando

  • Interesting vid. Brando was brilliant.

    Coppola's a real fruit loop.

  • Define "fruit loop"?

  • Danny Thomas wanted the role so bad he wanted to by paramount just to get it. Paramount also didnt want Pacino, he wasnt famous enough, and they suggested Ryan O'Neil.

  • they also suggested james caan to play michael instead of playing as sonny. they even tried martin sheen!

  • Coppola wanted Carmine Caridi as Sonny( Carmine "C-Note" Rosato in Part 2, but he was a foot taller than Pacino and wound up an extra in the Carlo punch-out. Carmine's a good guy. Been in touch with him personally and a nice old dude

  • cool so how excatly did he get casted

  • The Academy wanted to give Brando a Lifetime Achievement Oscar also but only if he showed up to accept it so he refused. Brando was much bigger and more important than the Oscars.

  • Not a lifetime achievement award. He won best actor.

  • he was talking about something else. we know this "best actor" thing. =)

  • They gave him an Oscar he could refuse.

  • but he did refuse it

  • That's what I said.

  • well, i didn't actually read your comment, so cut me some slack

  • Well then read it THEN comment. Wtf should I cut you slack?

  • because if you don't i'll pee in your mouth

  • He made him an offer that he couldn't refuse...

  • win

  • I don't care about others but Marlon Brando is my favorite despite the unsteady career. Remarkable is the word.

  • brando is my favorite. rip

  • Marlon Brando = Vito Corleone, "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse". Classic.

  • that was the old school of cinma

  • I really can't imagine anyone else to play the part of Vito Corleone.

  • He looks like Wanderlei Silva

  • who played solozzo

  • Al Lettieri. He did sum great work!

  • sure did!

  • Ain't that the truth. He was one of the top 5 best in the movie, IMHO.

  • you know imdb right ?

  • johnny fontaine will never get that movie!

  • some moments are larger than life

caan, pacino, coppola, de niro, brando

    still the best

i forgot one film on my previous list

    big blue

    ahhh cinema

  • That was great. Brando looks scary in the screen test.

  • damn i wanna see the full thing!

  • Godfather = el padrino!!

  • godfather=il padrino!!

  • the first one was the best

  • HA HA HA. Marlon's face was priceless.

  • SOnny was awesome. I really wished he could have lived through part one and died in 2

  • it happens in the first part of the godfather, he has a heart attack in his garden.

  • is there another part to this?

  • Where´s the second part of this?

  • interesting...

  • interesting...

  • I only wish he coulda lived till the end of two at least

  • I agree, it was so sad when he had his heart attack. I love this movie!!!

  • Marlon Brandon el mas grande de todos los tiempos !!!

  • marlon brandon el mas grande de todos los tiempo¡¡¡

  • Brando done a brilliant job as Vito. I have his picture framed on my wall.

  • hahah, my family has it in the living room... :/ hahaha

  • so do i lol

  • Yes, he could feel himself 'slipping into madness' as Kurtz.

  • 'Godfather' is amazing but Brando wrote that Col. Kurtz was the role where he came closest to losing himself in the character. A great documentary to watch where Marlon does the commentary is 'Raoni' about the Amazon. Someone should post it on YouTube.

  • yasayan efsaneler

  • The role of Don Vito was tailor-made for Brando, but I wish someone would post Kirk Douglas's screen test for the role as I understand he tested very good as well.

  • WoW!

  • I wonder if anyone has the screen test that Coppola shot of Marlon Brando trying out for the Godfather?

  • ya check out godfather extras pt. 1 and 2

  • Brando dying ruined all of 2004 for me

  • hes not dead

    hes still alive

    seven shots and hes stillalive

  • He was shot 5 times.

  • Coppola shoulda followed suit after what the executive said and placed a horse head in his bed.

  • Michael & Sonny were the best sons Marlon Brando(Don Vito Corleone) ever had fuck Fredo...Don Michael Corleone

  • Fuck fredo? John Cazale was a phenomenal actor.

  • stophocles, I so much agree with you about john cazale. Portraying Fredo was the most challenging part of all. He was a brilliant, gifted actor.

  • I agree, stop thumbing him down

he gave a good portrait of a weasel

    he also died shortly after

deer hunter, so give Cazale credit, he was great

my brother is a fimmacer andhe said cazale was underappreciated, he was good

  • I'm going to bother finding the posts you're refuting, but anyone who says Cazale was some kind of weak link, They're well, strange...

  • yes, deserves great credit, he was well cast, brillant in the role of a the ner do well, underappreciating, shying away embetant

  • marlon brando one of the greatest actors alive.

  • i mean.. was alive.

  • Marlon Brando is amazing.

  • Incredible! Thanks

  • Executive :-)

  • haha the guy was pretty funny:P thx for uploading;-)
