I like to watch a lot of comics and Bill Burr has amazing rapport and charisma with his crowds and his timing is great. Hart is great too-a little bit more on the sillier and physical humor side. Chappelle can be like that too but he's a little bit slower paced and off the wall with his jokes. Bernie Mac was really good too with crowds.

I've recently started doing stand up comedy, and one of the first things I realized is that bombing, awkward silence, and heckling is unavoidable. While some material may kill one night, at some point, the same material will get crickets chirping. One of the hardest things to do is to overcome situations like that, mid-set. Billy Burr is fantastic at it. I think that's one of the most important attributes a comedian can have. Billy Boy...you are the man.

What separates the pros from the hacks is the ability to roll with it, change gears and keep going. Even though that silence feels like a sledgehammer to the stomach. Nothing worse. I would rather they boo then sit there silently. At least you could do something with a boo but silence is tough! I freely admit I get flustered but I'm very new

I haven't uploaded a new video in over 6 months, but there's gonna be one that should be uploaded for me within the next couple days. I do it in Tampa and Orlando mostly. Hopefully if everything goes well, I'll be in the world series of comedy in Vegas in September. Trying to win an entry. I'll let you know in July. Thanks for the interest though, man. BUT DON't IMITATE! use your heroes (and other living greats include louis ck, dave chappelle, chris rock) as a source of INSPIRATION and NOT a source of IMITATION. you have to find your own voice, your own point of view, and then channel that through yourself in the way those mentioned earlier, like bill, do. the greats can teach you what great comedy is, not how to actually make it yourself. it's up to you to create!

The unfortunate thing is that level of intelligence necessary to understand some of their jokes is too high brow for most people, so when a comedian busts out the high brow material and they don't get it, the comedian is forced to resort to extraordinarily low brow material to get laughs. It's a waste of talent, to be honest.
@Minkki82 Nothing in particular, but listening to a comedian like Bill Burr or any other comic that is a very intelligent person but still busts out a lot of low brow schtick and it's plain to see that while they can certainly make a wonderful and intelligent joke, they often have to resort to poo poo and pee pee jokes and words to get a laugh from low brow audiences.
@murphy3162 that may be partially true, but sometimes - no matter how smart you are - when done right the occasional "poo poo or pee pee joke" is just downright hilarious. lowbrow humor isn't exclusively for the "low brow" it just depends on the quality of the joke and the frequency with which such material is used.
@dweebieMC my statement wasn't that low brow poo jokes aren't funny, it's that it's a real crying shame that intelligent comics are capable of making much more intelligent jokes but because the audience doesn't understand them and an awkward silence ensues, they are forced to either make a low brow poo joke or they will get booed off the stage as "unfunny".
@Minkki82 A good example is the late Mitch Hedberg, who would talk about a guy with a ponytail, a hat, an earring, facial tattoos, a beard, nose piercing, and etc and he would say "you have a lot of cranial accessories", which would be followed by "I'm glad this isn't a dumb crowd or I'd have to say 'you got a lot of shit on your head'."
@LLTech Giraldo kills when it comes to roasts or when he was on tough crowd...but his actual stand up is a little weak. Funny, but not nearly as good as his tv show appearances. Billy Burr kills everytime he takes the mike.

The unfortunate thing is that level of intelligence necessary to understand some of their jokes is too high brow for most people, so when a comedian busts out the high brow material and they don't get it, the comedian is forced to resort to extraordinarily low brow material to get laughs. It's a waste of talent, to be honest.

@Minkki82 Nothing in particular, but listening to a comedian like Bill Burr or any other comic that is a very intelligent person but still busts out a lot of low brow schtick and it's plain to see that while they can certainly make a wonderful and intelligent joke, they often have to resort to poo poo and pee pee jokes and words to get a laugh from low brow audiences.

@murphy3162 that may be partially true, but sometimes - no matter how smart you are - when done right the occasional "poo poo or pee pee joke" is just downright hilarious. lowbrow humor isn't exclusively for the "low brow" it just depends on the quality of the joke and the frequency with which such material is used.

@dweebieMC my statement wasn't that low brow poo jokes aren't funny, it's that it's a real crying shame that intelligent comics are capable of making much more intelligent jokes but because the audience doesn't understand them and an awkward silence ensues, they are forced to either make a low brow poo joke or they will get booed off the stage as "unfunny".

@Minkki82 A good example is the late Mitch Hedberg, who would talk about a guy with a ponytail, a hat, an earring, facial tattoos, a beard, nose piercing, and etc and he would say "you have a lot of cranial accessories", which would be followed by "I'm glad this isn't a dumb crowd or I'd have to say 'you got a lot of shit on your head'."

@LLTech Giraldo kills when it comes to roasts or when he was on tough crowd...but his actual stand up is a little weak. Funny, but not nearly as good as his tv show appearances. Billy Burr kills everytime he takes the mike.

@LLTech dude greg giraldo can't touch bill burr in any way. greg's ok, funny and everything... but funny in a "who cares" kinda way. bill is funny with a truly unique voice, with something to say that comes from the heart and comes from a place most others can't access. bill has that perceptive intelligence that allows him to mine for material in places other people never notice - bill cuts into the absurdity of life the way a surgeon cuts into a diseased heart - talent and precision, baby

@dweebieMC If you're a fan of Bill Burr, it's a little odd to say Giraldo is funny in a "who cares" way. Giraldo is the only comic that is truly similar to Burr in terms of tone, material, and style, and vice versa.

@jono11 not at all. i did NOT Laugh once, whatsoever at greg giraldo's horrid, absoultely terrible comedy special on comedy central. it was horrible. beyond comprehension.
however ANYTHING, bill says or does, because i know that he really means and feels what he says, is the funniest and some of the most amazing shit i've ever heard.

His act isn't improv, but his random replies to the audience's comments seem to be. He's good at coming up with something funny to say when random crap happens.
I realize that that's the whole idea of being a stand up comic, but he's very good at it.
