wtf happened to Dennis Hopper in the 80's? he was this chill, cowboy hat-wearing stoner in this movie, and then in blue velvet he turned into a fat psychotic sado machist with a high pitched voice! talk about re-inventing yourself...
if you look at the scene where the song just starts jack is laughing with the film crew and he is looking away from fonda&hopper :) funny fooking scene hahahaha
@anonymusum I first saw it in 1969 when it came out. It was a low-budget counter-culture movie that turned out to be a box office hit and a cult classic.
No seriously, the first time I watched this movie, I laughed so hard at that scene. Hanson with that goofy helmet of his and thinking the song went "If you want to be a virgin" xD
Usually I ignore the banal utterances of the foolish , unwashed, unintelligent pod people who seek to make life miserable for those of us who prefer to 'live and let live'. In this case I say to you in all utter sincerity, in the words of the late great Kurt Vonnegut, "Go take a flying fuck through a rolling doughnut"
@Seattlecarnut thats the joke, thats why he emphasizes the fact that he has a helmet, he is also wearing a michigan wolverine sweater, a college famous for their football.
$350,000.00 was all it took to make this classic film. Nowadays they can spend $350 million and come up with nothing but a piece of CGI shite with no plot or characters. I'm having a very hard time imagining a worl without Dennis Hopper in it. RIP Dennis.
Dennis, a memorial Memorial Day. You loved New Mexico after coming to know it somewhat after making Easy Rider. You purchased a place right across the Ranchos de Taos church of St. Francis, and one day I met you on the road in front of your place . I was intrigued by the peace and joy with which you were casually greting passersby. May you rest in peace!
I had a Captain America helmet when I rode my Honda CT-70 back in 1970 in salute to this movie. It was this movie that got me to want to hit the road. I was 10.
hEY, WHY IS IT THAT GUYS ALWAYS HAVE TO HAT OTHER GOOD LOOKING GUYS WHEN THEY CAN GET THE GIRLS. tHEY AREN'T GAY THEY ARE JUST BEAUTIFUL AND SEXY.Sorry about caps hit that cap thing earlier and too lazy to erase
It's the same the world over, Aphidboy. Now, the car is the star and we can't breath, can't walk about freely and we've become so lazy that we can't walk the length of ourselves. The sooner the petrol(gas) runs out, the quicker we'll recover as a race.
Notice how there ain't no damned cars? What ever happened to THAT America? The one with lonesome highways and empty landscapes. Beautiful stuff here. No darned wonder it changed my life.
@Novak67766 You know, I agree. Lots of cheap philosophy and dumb lines posing as deep thoughts. I tried and was unable to rewatch it in the Eighties, after I'd grown up. Still, in 1969/70, the Nixon/Agnew years, Easy Rider had quite a punch for our young, impressionable minds, creating a sense of "us vrs them" mentality, where the young were the enlightened and the good. We all wanted to look like Peter Fonda and have open roads with no responsibilities. Sounded good at the time.
@Aphidboy As it turned out, Hopper was playing himself ("Hey, man.") Bad acting, witless, tiresome. I remember going to this movie ready to enjoy myself. I left it not wanting to vote Republican, but I certainly did not want to hang out with those two bores (H & F). I remember a lot of them when I marched against that other idiotic war of ours. To them it was like watching a ball game; it was hip. That was a movie, and that was boring too.
@Aphidboy yeah in time when we should the least number of cars than ever we have the most, population growth is a bitch on the ecology and landscape, which is why it's good that's it's slowing--at least in the western world (except for the remaining hicks that still think it feasible to have 7 kids like its sitll 1870)
@Aphidboy "Notice how there ain't no damned cars? What ever happened to THAT America?"
I think I know what you mean.
There are many more people now. One third more in the US since this movie was made. It's a different feeling now, more crowding, hostility, less courtesy and humane regard for other people. More gadgets, pundits feverishly competing for your attention, helping you forget who you are deep down as they sell you another idea of who you ought to be. I miss -some- of those old days.
