As a 14 year old girl who has bought Abercrombie clothes frequently I think that all these news people blew this way out of proportion. First of all, I don't think these are targeted to 7 or 8 or 9 year olds, they are targeted at girls who shop at abercrombie kids, mostly 11-17 year olds approximately. Also, I doubt those bras would fit any 8 year old girl, because I've tried those on and they run very large. Its not even the chest size, its the rib size.
@ThisFutureAuthor When I was 13 I could barely wear one without it falling off! Also, I don't think the padding is necessarily a bad thing. Let me tell you if you don't remember, in your tween years your breasts are usually pointy and are easily noticeable through clothing. the padding doesn't make you look bigger, it makes you look flatter and rounder actually. The push up part doesn't do anything at all unless you have something for it to push up.

Calling the moms crazy is the problem. I think what we are failing to realize is that a few psycho moms wouldn't cause a company to manufacture a line of padded swimsuits for prepubescent girls. I really don't have a problem with this. Granted I'm a guy, and not a father, but I don't see what's so bad about a little girl dressing as an older girl. Especially at a pool where people are showing their bodies anyway. Not everything has to be sexual.

However, I have a seven year old sister and I know how trends spread among children and how susceptible they are to what is in vogue. My observation about this is that society has been sexualizing people younger and younger. The RW-Christians have been complaining about this for sometime while the Progressives see some of this as normal behavior. Now that an 8 year old is targeted, suddenly the progressives are saying that it is too young.
@Bellita1 Alright well, it wasn't cool to sexualize children the 40s, 50s, 60s (sexual revolution, mind you), 70s, 80s, 90s, or now. Unlike most progressives, I don't even have a problem with children in pageants. They are being dolled up, not stripped down, and their talents (singing, dancing) are being displayed. I think anyone that looks at that and finds it sexual is creepy.

But think about this, what if that 8 yr old little girl who 'expresses her sexuality' begins to think about being sexy at an early age and then begins to think that sex is no big deal, then begins having sex at an early age. Girls should be taught in school about birth control and schools should offer it to kids without parental consent. @jordnthoms I am not advocating that men marry 12 year olds. Do you think we should have clothing laws? What age is acceptable to sell padded bikinis, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 or 18? Did you see the dance video of 8 yearolds dancing to Beyonce's "Put a Ring On It". They were dancing provacatively and the Right Wing Christians had a fit. Are you one of those?

@Bellita1 it is acceptable to sell bikinis around the age that science indicates girls become sexually self-conscious (and in most cases, gain SIGNIFICANT humility).
while i hate being lumped in with rw-christians, i think the parents of those children and the broadcasters involved in that show lack dignity and respect for their children. but this is america and voltaire said something cool that belongs here.
again, i will point out that money talks. regulations are the wrong way to go.

@jordnthoms I apologize for lumping you in with rw-christians, that really wasn't my intent. My observation comes from my sociology major in college. My observation about this is that society has been sexualizing people younger and younger. The RW-Christians have been complaining about this for sometime while the Progressives see some of this as normal behavior. Now that an 8 year old is targeted, suddenly the progressives are saying that it is too young.

@Bellita1 Alright well, it wasn't cool to sexualize children the 40s, 50s, 60s (sexual revolution, mind you), 70s, 80s, 90s, or now. Unlike most progressives, I don't even have a problem with children in pageants. They are being dolled up, not stripped down, and their talents (singing, dancing) are being displayed. I think anyone that looks at that and finds it sexual is creepy.
That said, the idea of an 8 year old wearing a padded bra/bikini to look sexy and attract men, skeeves me out.

@Boobalopbop Many Progressives would disagree with you about this. They have no problem with girls 16 years old wearing thong bikinis or having sex. I am not sure the padded bra / bikini is meant to attract men at 8 years old. I think it is about them feeling like the other girls they see.

@Bellita1 i agree that they (children) should feel free to express themselves in any way. But think about this, what if that 8 yr old little girl who 'expresses her sexuality' begins to think about being sexy at an early age and then begins to think that sex is no big deal, then begins having sex at an early age. She'll either end up pregnant before she can vote, end up with some disease, or labeled as a slut. Would you think it would still be ok to put her in that? What's wrong with a 1 piece?

@TheSuperbunny09 Sex is No big deal. It is a normal biological function, that should not have age restricitions. Girls should be taught in school about birth control and schools should offer it to kids without parental consent. If they do get pregnant then they can have an abortion because that isn't a big deal either.

@Bellita1 I agree safe sex should be taught in schools and they should have access to birth control in school. But do you really believe that sex should be taught to children under 10? They haven't even hit puberty at that age but yet it's ok to let them dress and think like a 17 yr old on a friday night? And I'm not even going to touch on the abortion topic because ill never stop.

@TheSuperbunny09 I am a true Progressive and I think if you treat children like adults they will act like adults and mature faster and healthier. We teach children in elementry school about drugs, why not sex? Kids are getting pregnant in middle school these days and I will bet you that kids are experimenting or having sex in the 4th or 5th grade. If they do get pregnant than an abortion is a simple answer.

I am wondering if you would still feel the same if your 6th or 5th grade daughter came to you and told you she was pregnant, would you still think that treating her as an adult is still a good idea. Hell using your logic, treat them as an adult and give them alcohol as well, show them porn as well. After all that is what adults do isn't it?

I would be disappointed that my 5th or 6th grader didn't practice safe sex. As for the abortion, if it is done correctly there aren't any major risks. I have no problem with my children drinking before they are 21. Telling kids not to do something only encourages them to try it behind your back. Cenk and Ana would agree with me

And second of all its one thing to teach kids about the dangers of sex, but to encourage them, and even more in elementary, is just bad parenting in my opinion. I once read somewhere that the socio-cultural environment of today is causing adolescence to start sooner and sooner; I think it referred to psychological adolescence; but it might have been both, since the mind can affect the body, especially in something like this;
padded bras at 8 years... so 8 years would be start of adolescence...
you know whatever views I might have on sex, childhood is BEAUTIFUL time of life; THAT should be prolonged not shortened; teen years suck; and it gets worse

who cares? its not like its an inch of padding on it and padding is way more comfortable plus they were doing this in primark ages ago, also just a question, how do we know its for 8 yr olds? did a&f advertise them as for 8 yr olds? or just for kids because that includes teens sometimes and sometimes they do need the extra protection.
