I also think it's very important, nearly imperative to be educated in all aspects concerning politics. I like to have a detailed understanding of the platforms for all candidates so that I can make an educated voting decision when the time comes to do so.

The Dept. of the Air Force, U.S. Treasury Dept., State Dept., and others all show expenses related to the operations at the White House which includes the first lady's protection detail, travel expenses and meals, accommodations, transportation, etc., etc., etc. All the heavy lifting is done by tax payers. The minuscule portion of the tab picked up by the Obamas is inconsequential.

It's true that some taxpayer money is used to fund their trips, but it only covers the government expenses. This will continue to be true no matter who is president.
