  • THE PICK OF DESTINY!

  • Shouldve used a v pick slide! HAHA

  • @martincole348 Sounds like D minor to me.

  • GMD could you please tell me what tuning you're in here ?

  • Comment removed

  • Yes sir, Jack, I want to worship the Pick of Destiny!! What? Devil's Horn? Yes Sir!! We ARE the D!!!!

  • Hey GMD, ever heard the joke about Jack White meeting Jack Black ?

  • is that jack black?

  • hi gearmandude! may i ask what sort of bottle slide you're using there?

  • @fcbtim it's made by SILICA SOUND ...very cool slides, especially for electric

  • @gearmanndude thanks for the info! much appreciated

  • Great slide playing GMD! I personally love V-picks, I've never used any other picks that come close to the feel/tone they give me.

  • Hey gearman, you are a very good dobro players. What about testin' cheap dobros and mational copies on the tube?.

  • @rhum66 good ideeeer! I'll give it a shot

  • You could skip this sucker across the lake! hahaha

  • I love using the middle finger for slide. It just gives me more options for everything. Good to know I'm not alone also lol.

  • @vanzeposmith910 That would cripple my fretting hand. The slide on the pinkie enables me to play (including chords) with the other 3 fingers. Plus I can play minor, 7, m7 chords BEHIND the slide à la Sonny Landreth.

  • wow just sub good stuff thanks

  • What tuning are you using for this? =)

  • @DaveRingle I think it's open D: DADF#AD.

  • Fingers sound the best to me.

  • that is some killer slide playing!!!

  • Heh that thick grippy pick is like 3mm thick! I could never use that. I like .60 mm Dunlop torex and .88 Dunlop torex. Ou can also get .50, .73, 1.0, and 1.14 I think.

  • im looking for something thicker than my Tortex 1.14, ive been looking into V-Picks and its good to see a comparison to a dunlop pick. i think i will be looking further into V-Picks

  • GMD, really cool to see you play a resonator! I have been interested in getting one, but they are not that common to even try out. Ron Wood uses that finger for slide. I use my pinky with a Diamond leaded crystal that is about the same dimensions as the old pill bottle slides and a Diamond soda lime glass bottle which really improved my abilities. Glad to see it isn't just me that gets too much pick noise from V picks!

  • Hi GMD, sorry if this has been asked before, but is the sound from the camera mic? Or maybe you have a mic nearby ?

  • @DarkoStojcev Just the camera mic for this clip...

  • those are acrylic not glass, when are you making a g-pick vid?

  • they look great but it seems like itd be awful hard to find on a dark stage if you drop it

  • V picks are awesome.I use the second one he showed, and I have a fat one that sounds like a thumb. God video Thanks.

  • nice picks, greetings from Argentina

  • How stiff is your normal pick? Myn is 1.5mm

  • @Horsantti Think that green one is a .88mm.

  • @DuskY1991 k

  • that's some sweet slide playin'

  • GMD, you say this is an inexpensive resonator guitar. It sounds like a million bucks. Tone is great whether strumming or picking notes. I have owned a number of budget resonators including an Epiphone Spider that was my favorite for years. I thought it sounded great but this demo raised the bar. Can you tell us about the guitar? All stock components or did you upgrade anything? What brand/gage strings do you use? Thanks. Mike K

  • i'm diggin on the slide playin!

  • That was badass playing at 1:50

  • That thang sounds sweet

  • What song are you playing??????? :D

  • I bought a V-pick that's 8mm thick just to have and show friends lol I like a Jim Dunlop heavy myself lol

  • I like a bit of spring in my picks, never been a fan of the stubby ones.

  • How is this guitar tuned

  • I want people to send me guitar stuff too!

  • I still like my dunlop jazz III and tortex over that.. hahah.. They probably are too big for me..

  • @akosiCoco I use the same 2 the jazz is good for articulate playing and the dunlop is better for smoother picking

  • is this blues or? god i love this kinda music but I never come across it.

  • @H3lloSE Ry Cooder's earlier albums

  • Your playing = win

  • can you recommend any slides?

  • @rydeen18 Rocky Mountain Slides

  • "you could skip this sucker across a lake" LOL

  • Comment removed

  • Is it me or did jack loose wait?

  • @razorette1

you should check this somewhere else cause there's definitely no jack in this vid

  • Old Fender plastic medium picks are my favorite, that medium v pick looks close.

  • I've seen some pretty fat, big ole picks used by gypsy jazz players and was thinking about getting some myself. These look pretty awesome too.

  • Sounds fatter. Nice playing!

  • Damn He is not JB

  • @Packy11920 how do you know?

  • @drumkilla JB is fat

  • It works till you have a buzz and drop it on the floor and can't find it cause its clear! Rock On!

  • Killer tone and awesome playing.

  • damn i like dem licks in this video. Can anyone recommend any music that has these awesome sounds?

  • @Inzil2k this is delta blues

  • whats the name of that tube on ur finger ??? been searchin everywhere for the name :(

  • @BMXshark it's a slide :)

  • @BMXshark lol yep it's called a slide. how have you never heard of a slide? You must be into metal.. :P

  • @southerncountryboy8 haha u guessed . Thats why im missing acoustic and now want to try some of this stuff as well cause it sounds awesome.

  • I'm glad to see I'm not the only weirdo who plays slide with his middle finger haha

  • @dlheidemann Yeah, another one right here!

  • @dlheidemann One day we shall rise...

  • @dlheidemann LOL! I know...that's just the finger I started with as a kid, cause you could still do power chord shuffle patterns and whatnot while wearing the slide...plus, you can give the audience the bird the whole time...nobody was around when I started to tell me it was the wrong finger! I rarely see anyone else using their middle finger either...welcome to the club!!

  • @gearmanndude Exactly! For me it just always felt the most comfortable. I tend to have way more control with the middle finger.

And I can tell the audience to go screw, you're right! hahahah

  • @gearmanndude The middle finger is the only way I can play slide. My favorite tuning is (low to high) C G C G C E. But the only way to do it is with the "original wigleys" real swampy Ry-ish tones. Try it, you'll dig it.

What kind of resonator is that? Looks like it's in good shape.

  • @gearmanndude Brett Garsed does it that way too and man how great he does it, he is a master of the slide

  • @gearmanndude if you look up james duke, he is a pro guitarist who does a lot of slide work on standard tuned guitars and plays slide with his middle finger.

  • @dlheidemann I'm playing with the middle finger, one the coolest guys in the world is using the middle finger, the one and only Billy Gibbons :D

  • @dlheidemann glad i'm not alone too

  • Hey GMD, KILLER TONE man, love your videos, grettings from Brazil, keep rocking!!!

  • ive been wanting some of those but they're freakin expensive

  • Great video, how about some more acoustic reviews, you sound awesome on the resonator.

  • Good Video Jack!

  • i wish i could play like GM, what style is this and what are some good bands/musicians that play like this?

  • @hoptop77 look up some delta blues dude

  • @ellwrox oh and if you cant play like this at first, dump your gf and drink a bottle of whiskey and it comes naturally

  • @ellwrox thanks for that

  • Dammit, now I want a resonator.. :)

  • RED BEARS ARE THE BESTEST EVERESTTTTTTT

  • Yesss. Slide rules!!!

  • where did you get your slide? also where did you learn all this blues stuff?

  • @BriansSecretDoor Google it

  • @JamesFerrerosa google what haha

  • @BriansSecretDoor Buy yourself a second hand dobro, buy some Robert Johnson and Son House records and just play along.

  • @jessemaes1990 thanks man will do

  • I think the Dunlops sound the best.

  • @Desmaad No, I change my mind, the ultra-lite smalls sound pretty good too.

  • @Desmaad Nah, the Dunlops sound crap; the ultra-lite smalls sound the best. All the others sound kinda muffled.

  • IMHO, this is your best video so far. Great delta blues playing! \m/

  • With all the craziness in the world today, thank god for guitars and music.

GMD folk are good folk.keep up the good work!

  • What tuning are you in

  • @ohhoya I think that's open D (DADF#AD) but I could be wrong.

  • @ohhoya Open D

  • the idea with hard picks is to lower your string tension if you r using a low tuning there is no reason for the pick to bend the strings are loose and the heavy pick lets you attack the strings which is easier to do with lower tuning like Eb (hendrix tuning) see: teeth solo

  • Lots of character. Great sounds. Fingerpickin' still the best.

  • g-pick is made from real glass

  • small but fat - jack black?

  • Who really uses a pick that thick? my prfferance is almost paper thin way better for alternate speed picking...All I have to do is practice more and maybe I'd play as good as gearmandude....

  • @JBL8863 It's a little awkward at first, but once you get used to them, they play like a dream.

  • OMG!.. the Pick of Destiny we knew you had it!

  • You gonna give me one of the night glows GMD?

    :3 please?

  • @Jamsessionroom1337 what's a night glow?

  • @gearmanndude Jazz pick made of glass that glows in the night, it's on the website dude.

  • I think i'd like that glass pick that looks like a jazz pick, are there any of those?

  • @Jamsessionroom1337 i make a jazz pick out of glass modelled off dunlops you can find links to my website all over my channel and a new vid i have a jazz pick in that color its called blue beauty contact me i'll hook you up

  • G*d@amn, GMD, you rock.
