I got some cheap pads off ebay and they don't appear to have a shim on the back of the pad... looks like I'm going to have to shop around a bit more for that. Anyway, that aside, in your experience do you need to apply any kind of anti-squeak spray or high temperature lube on the back of the pad?

@schr4nz just found the answer to my question, without shims, a high temp lube or antisqueel spray is a must have

@schr4nzHi m8, I bought some cheap pads for my Sportster and it ate them in 5k!!!! Not worth the money, now i stick with OEM parts (origional equipmentr manufacturer).

I also forgot to replace the shims on my Sportster, no big deal, i feel a very slight vibration when braking, ill put them back in next time i change the pads.

On all my cars/bikes, Ive never used anti squeak spray or similar, never had a problem. I have read that others use it, not met anyone who has though. Cheers. Sporty1200.

Nice vid! I just got a cb1000r two months ago. About how long (miles/kilometers) before you need to replace pads?

@bcbc1975 Thanks...Great choice of bike. I got 18,000 from my front pads. In the video at 1:10, take a look at the pads i removed, notice the vertical grooves cut into the pad material, they are 'wear indicators' and should be visible, (a torch helps) when looking at the caliper (before removal) from the front of the bike..When they are nearly gone, time for new ones. Not all pads have wear indicators but from the same front inspection - you should see how much wear you have left...Enjoy the CB

@bcbc1975 I should add the bike had 9k on the clock when i got her and the pads looked very good then, so i cant be sure if they were the originals or not, im guessing they were... :O)
