  • with GL countering General Hospital, it's bound to lose. not that GL is bad, but since both soaps are long running, the viewers must have been really faithful. think about it, GH's 1983 Luke and Laura brought in 30 mil viewers. obviously GH gets the priority at 3pm every weekday.

  • the original alan was da man!!!!!! R.I.P.

  • Guiding Light was one of My favorites until Ellen Wheeler took over the reigns. She single handly destroyed the show. It was unwatchable and beyond ridiculous by the time CBS pulled the plug

  • @vegasman437 OMG, did you nail the lid on the coffin or what? Now I don't have to!

  • My mom was a GH fan, my grandmother a GL fan. So I grew up watching both. Go figure. Nanny died years ago, but she followed GL every day, and had since it was on the radio. I hadn't watched in years, but when I heard it was to be cancelled, I began watching again. To Guilding Light and all the families of Springfield, thanks for the lifetimes of joy you brought to us.

  • could anyone tell what this song is playing in the background?

  • the original alan was the best, but the character was THE BEST VILLIAN IN TV.period.

  • i use to watch this with my drandmother when i was 5 a year before she died got into it kinda forgot about it and didnt get home from school till after it was over so when i got older started watching it again i was so sad when it went off i am now 20 i was just getting really into it so sad it went away wish they could of cut some other stupid soap off the air instead of that one

  • Missed the LAST episode due to being in the hospital. Husband forgot toset timer on DVR. I watched this show since I was Very young. I am....let's just say; a bit over 40 lol) Anyway...over ~ I have been watching GL & loving it for a LONG time! I am going to miss the whole crew. But, zi am Really going to mis Reeva, Josh, the (evil) Alan Spalding!!

  • @VanityGoneInsane i missed it because i could not figure out how to tape it. I came home from work to watch and i had someone taped someother show i neverwatch. I agree with MansonFreak555 there are other stupd soaps they could have cut instead of this one. makes me sad. I too watched this show since i was very young. recent years i would watch it now and again. My favorite years were the Beth, Phillip, Rick and Mindy years. When they were friends with the orginal cast (the other beth)

  • I have been working and did not even know why it was off the air. Did the man really die or was this the way to end the story. How sad I was I cried like a baby. I love GL , I am 46 watched it with my granny. GL lover forever.

  • i watched from 1976-1997, then gave up on it & watched only sporadically. i watched the last few weeks. i've liked all 3 Alans. Pilon was good, Bernau the best - he was so brilliant. Raines did a fine job for the last 15 years. RIP Alan Spaulding, RIP Chris Bernau, and RIP GL...

  • I have to agree with you on this...Chris Bernau was the penultimate Alan Spaulding....he is by far with maybe the exception of JR Ewing & Roger Thorpe my all-time favorite soap villain

  • OMG, I cried like I had no sense when Alan Died and I feel like i'm going to cry right now thinking about it.

  • I'm only 20 but when i was younger i started watching GL it just caught my attention and when Alan died i couldn't believe it.

  • I'm a 40 year old man. I remember watching this show with my mother and grandmother during the summer.

I thought that Allen and Roger were the coolest villans onTV.

Well, Mom and Grandmom are gone now. I watched the last episode today. Brought back a lot of memories from a simpler time.

My mom would have liked that Josh and Reeva are FINALLY together. She also would have liked that Allen redeemed himself. in the end.

At least there can be happy endings in Springfield.

  • Thanks for the honesty joseph I am glad some males did admit to being GL fans. I'm not male obviously LOL but an X best friend is and he loved GL. I don't speak to him now we had a fight over GL.

  • Never in my life did I expect to be sad to see this character die.

  • was such a great story told....broke my heart, made me cry....35 years I have watched this show and it feels like Im losing a family member....if only these stories would have been told over the past couple of years....we would have a bunch more to go......not saying they should have killed alan a lone time ago, but they could have and of course brought him back...thats soaps....RIP my family in GL

  • Wow! I'm pretty speachless about this. But I suspected it in a way. Especially when Philip was talking to him on the bench I knew he was dead already.

Heck I think I knew when Alan said to Buzz "I'll be right there in a few minutes, Yes I did it."I thought to myself, no you won't.. Poor Phillip! At least in the end they made Alan a better man. At least he tried, and showed his family and friends he could change.

  • Yup, I watched this show from my crib (I never said I remember!! LOL) I'm third generation watcher! I had quit for a bit (I hate it when real life gets in way of my TV viewing!) I came back for the fantastic story telling of Otalia! I was shocked today also!! Did not see it coming!!

We will have to form a support group & NOT watch whatever replaces Guiding Light!! I hope their ratings are even worse! Because the took one of the great shows off the air!! GLA (Guding Light Anonymous)!!

  • WOW, I watched today & was stunned to see Alan pass away. This coming Friday will mark the end of an error.

  • I was stunned! I never dreamed that would happen.

  • me too :(

  • I am so in shock i watch the shows online when i get home late and omg i fell literally off my couch and cried everyone in my house thought i lost my mind...But this was Alan Spaulding...i hate cbs and p&g for taking this away from my life the only bit i have left of something i shared with my mom (passed away in 95).

  • This one caught me off guard today, I never expected Alan Spaluding to die, wonder if he really is, wonder if tv will do some special 5 to 50 years from now about this show, I sure hope so, i have been watching this show for all of my life, My mom got me started she is said about the show ending too, what are we going to do without springfield

  • Thanks for this posting. I am glad that Alan made peace with his family and the citizenry of Springfield. Alan's death was as he lived his life: On his own terms! I will be mourning the loss of Guiding Light. I have been watching now for approximately 15 years. I feel like I will be losing a friend.
