These guys were talented all around! Saw Lake and Emerson last year in the small venue and had a chance to actually speak to them! Very welcoming guys and as talented as ever. I hope they do a reunion.
The only talented thing in was Lake's voice and guitar.
Emerson sounds and will be always sound anachronic on those huge analogic keyboards and nothing but lesse than average talent (the guy form Genesis is much better . Today he sounds like shit.
he Sage -------- I carry the dust of a journey that cannot be shaken away It lives deep within me For I breathe it every day. You and I are yesterday's answers; The earth of the past came to flesh, Eroded by Time's rivers To the shapes we now possess. Come share of my breath and my substance, and mingle our stream and our times. In bright, infinite moments, Our reasons are lost in our rhymes.
Promenade --------- Lead me from tortured dreams Childhood themes of nights alone, Wipe away endless years, childhood tears as dry as stone. From seeds of confusion, illusions darks blossoms have grown. Even now in furrows of sorrow the dance still is sung. My life's course is guided decided by limits drawn on charts of my past days and pathways since I was born.
EH&P???? I can't imagine it! But, J.Hendrix was on the verge of forming and joining this band before his abrupt death in Sept of 1970! I wonder if it would of been HE&P???
Oh God. these three . . . it's like a sexy man buffet. It doesn't seem fair that so much talent AND looks went into these three incredibly yummy packages.
I was lucky enough to see one of the first live performances of Pictures at an Exhibition at Leicester De Montfort Hall, and it took so damn ling for the recording to come out - in fact I was on the point of asking them if we could tape it ourselves Easter 1971. However, the eventual Newcastle City Hall recording was pretty damn good, though I think the De Mont organ would have done a better job!
They turned a hard rocker to realize maybe classical and jazz could rock also. Saw them 74. Drove from PHX to Tucson to have my mind blown with plenty of pomp and circumstance. Thank god Greg left King Crimson. The 70's had to have the most amazing artist of any decade. Sure many greats had their first lp's in 69 but the bulk of their work was in the 70's. What say you?
thanks for the feed, brings back many memories of the early 70's when ELP would play the whole LP as their encore, usually followed by the show-ending Nutrocker!
I got the vinyl record album in 1972 with this first came out and it blew me away. Some of the stuff Keith Emerson does get a little wild, but overall the amount of music just these 3 guys make it incredible. They always manage to stay in time which can be very hard with all that older equipment and lack of ear monitors to keep track. Greg lake shows why he is a premier guitarist and singer with a great sense of what a song requires.
Carl Palmer has been touring this year with his own band (bass and guitar and him) and they do an outstanding version of "Pictures". The guy is 60 and still tears it up. Keith has had issues with his hands and Greg.... well, lets just say "he's let himself go".
To clear the ELP/Crimson gig debate - King Crimson were the support band for the Nice when they recorded The Five Bridges Suite at Croydon Fairfield Hall on the 17th of October 1969.
@0rganizer There's no way you saw ELP live in '69! You mean '70! Emerson was still with the Nice back in '69! ELP's second performance was at the Isle of Wight in August of '70!
i began to know ELP listening to Pictures, and, though i have all their albums, i still think this is one of the best... actually, it is particularly important for me because it is the first "ELP-stuff" i tried to learn (at the piano)... but also the singing-parts often keep my mind quiet.. full.... i can't think anything else... i can't concentrate.. because of greg! oh, i really love his voice...
@arashicharuka ... i hope i haven't misunderstood... unfortunately, i am in a similiar situation... unfortunately, it can't be helped... music in my country is so.. awful.... and i can only listen to foreign music! or go abroad!... actually, i'm not sure i've understood the meaning of your message... however, i agree with you! ;)
I was only twelve or thirteen then. I hadn't been to any rock or pop concerts at that age but had been to some classical concerts so this would have been an easy introduction to rock.
The man staring at Greg...look at his face at 5:24...I did that too. :)

Listen to the first records of King Crimson and the solo one by Pete Sinfield and discover that Greg Lake was a genius there, not here.

But while his singing skills were
outstanding, he is also a very fine
bassist and guitarist, and to further
add to his list of talents, he also
produced the early ELP albums.
