Morant was an Englishman with Irish ancestry. Not Australian, He was not , at the time fighting for the Australian Military but rather another arm of the Empire's forces.
@alanheath Apparrently he did at least one tour with a South Australian Brigade at the start of the conflict and then re enlisted with a different mounted unit of the Empires forces. Infact I believe that he never actally fought for Australia due to the fact that at that Time the Commonwealth of Australia did not legaly exist.
@johnnyjrotten59 Strangely enough today (1 March) is the anniversary of the foundation of the Australian army in 1901. Australia was a collection of states then which came together formally I think in 1907 - however they were all independent with the UK holding only limited powers.
Pride and anger will blind people to the truth. The truth, no matter how hard to face, should always be our 1st priority. The truth will set you free!
It is not often you see an Australian politician supporting a pardon for an Enlishman who admitted to murder the murder of 12 unarmed men and children! I wonder if he knows the facts at all. Chris van Staden was 12 years old when Morant forced him to dig his own grave before being shot. Morant and Handcock also murdered one of their own men, Tpr Van Buren. It is Australians who complained about these murders. An Australian even investigated and believed Morant guilty as hell.
How typical of the British establishment. Use the Aussies as and when required; the Transvaal, Gallipoli, Vimy Ridge; -and if a scapegoat is needed, there they are. To cap it all, Australian gunners on the ground were left uncredited with the shooting down of Richthofen, when all evidence pointed away from the RAF/RFC flyboys, who were allowed to seize that glory.

@johnnyjrotten59 But if I remember correctly, Morant joined the Australian armed forces at the outbreak of war.

It's called corruption.
This is not new evidence, this is exculptory evidence hidden by the prosecution in 1902.
Police do the sme today to convict and jail innocent people quite often.
Nothing changes.

Why the heck don't the Brits open the case and reconsider? No one's reputation is at stake anymore..except for Brit dogma.
