  • Classic! Yes, they don't make them like this anymore. Tight harmonies and great guitar, something lacking in today's music. No one sings harmonies anymore....

  • They don`t make music like this anymore.

  • Maravilhosa música, mexe com o sentimento.

  • What I don't get about this song is.....Oz DID give something to the Tin Man that he didn't already have. Oz gave him a Flavor Flav clock necklace.

  • <333 love this song, i listen to my record of this all the time! and im 19 :D

  • 7 people have no heart.

  • I must be the only person on the planet that can play this bass line just like the original... so far everyone on YouTube fails badly... I'm gonna record it tonight...

  • Aunque no soy de esa epoca, lo cual me hubiera encantado, me facina escuchar la musica de los 70s en especial este grupo.excelente rola....

  • This song is not only very melodic but poetic. America is a fantastic group with highly professional singers and songwriters. This like a number of there tunes will role around in your head for hours. Loved this group back in the 70's and still do. There songs are classics

  • after 38 years I still don't understand this song . Must have been written WUI.

  • Awake, be the witness of your thoughts.

  • People wants stuff they dont need. People wants to talk, but dont want to listen. Theese guys are chilling smoking out of a bong, knowing they dont need wealth and fame, only love for life. Thats my interpretation. I loved this song since i was a little kid and didnt understand english, know im 19 and i love it even more. Please understand you dont "need" all theese stuff commercials and other makes you believe you need! Sir Gallahad didnt need the holy grail. Let go of your desires.

  • @iSpiritMyfaith very good...I was looking for meaning to some of the lyrics. Thanks..for your interpretation. It makes alot of sense!

  • uuuuuuuuuuh. God bless america? AND THE BAND TOO !

  • Wow, I remember this great song. I graduated high school that year - class of 74. I sure missed those days.

  • This song is def. about smoking out of a bong LOL

  • Qué bueeeenooo!!!! Graaaciaaass.

  • 7 people are fat.

  • @sweetkees nice one

  • Thank You Dewey Bunell

  • only tings i can say about this band and their music is GLOD BLESS AMERICA :)

  • I have 16 years old and i love old musics =D

  • the 7 assholes whom voted thumbs down should get their asses kicked! how can u hate on this sassy ass classic jam! it kicks ass and its deep and delicious yes..god bless AMERICA

  • Let me interpret the lyrics for those who are curious: the Tin Man journeyed to Oz to get a heart, which he did not need. Sir Galahad was the most noble of King Arthur's knights. A tropic is a hemisphere. I think what they're saying here is that we are all like the Tin Man living in a noble shadow and we should, in the company of people who haven't realized this yet, act like it.

This is merely an interpretation. Please believe in me when I say...

  • @fourtwentty420 Very nice - I like your interpretation very much.

  • 6 people have no soul.

  • "cause never was the reason for the evening" does this mean... well; what does that mean? some feel the non meaning, an thas ok... but are we to believe these fellers jus wrote nonsense? that that lil bit of wisdom means nothing?

how many times do we do things jus "cause", do we simply react, as the popular notion of reacting dictates? but are the times... the moments in the continuum of our experience so trivial, is there more to the evening than jus because?

    could there be?

  • Brilliant track, never heard enough in the UK.

  • biennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!

  • America .......... what more can be said .

  • incredible song! masterpiece of the 70s! great America!

  • only wooooooooooowwww, i like!!!!!!!!!!

  • At 1:10 "Smoked glass stain, bright colors, image goin down down down down soap sud green light up"

  • @ZedAlfa273

any idea whut this means.? I think this guys were lost on earth

  • @1Savioso1 If anything, the lyrics are obscure. I've always felt them to be nonsensical which is why this is one of my favorite songs & one of the few songs I'll sing in front of a crowd because I love it so.

  • this song is clascial

  • Great steppin music.

  • Aww I adore this song; it's so beautiful.

  • Nossa...essa música faz parte da minha infância...

    Ouvia tanto...

  • one of our alltime favorite songs from one our favorite groups!

  • DAMMIT I LOVE THIS SONG.

  • Wow!! Used to do this with my band...Years ago (Poor Old Sod)... I was bassist and vocalist (For My sins) Love it makes me tingle Thanks Sylvette323b

  • @MrSirDel , my pleasure =))

  • Eu amo esta música! I love this song!

Abraços do Brasil ! Hugs from Sao Paulo - Brazil

  • @ WAFERS35, like ISAID IAM GLAD I GREW UP ON GOOD MUSIC! Last I heard, everyone could still freely state their OWN opinion in the United States which is where I am from. Now with that being said much of the music (not all) that is being played on the readio today straight SUCKS! that is my opinion and I stand by it ya dig!

  • @1myusernamesucks The reason you hate this song and also why you shop at walmart are one in the same. You come from a low socio-economic background, where you are forced to do with very little for long durations of time which resulted in your lack of interest for anything of actual quality such as this song. Or your mother also does not love you and stood idly as your father held you down and probably raped you to this song. Hearing this song reminds you why you are gay.

  • @1myusernamesucks Hearing a song over Wal-Mart speakers doesn't actually count as listening. You judged too quickly and missed out. Its not depressing at all since the song meaning is about believing in yourself but you may not have heard that over your own pointless whining.

  • Music at it's best. epic song, ill always enjoy it.

  • Doesn't this song just make you feel happy inside!

  • AWESOME. The only word for this song.

  • George Martin. Genius of his time.

  • awsome!

  • SWEET POINT BLANK!

  • Love the light show. :)

  • This song just brightens my day that much more :D

  • I'm a true Hip Hop head and I loved this song!

  • I'm 16. None of my friends know who America is. :-/ This song has been stuck in my head for days!

  • @ELiJELLiBELLi All of America's music is awesome.. tell all your friends!!

  • I'm so happy that mp3's are available. Instead of having 6-7 records to take up space, you can have all the songs on one portable device so you can listen to all the albums and songs.

Glad to be part of the techno generation.

  • wow... these guys were SO high....

  • Yes, MrMistery this is a bossa nova feel.

  • Hard to believe, but I swear if you listen closely to Lil Waynes "Mr Officer" this song is sampled. He has been sued for alot of songs, I wouldn't be surprised.

  • 1974... -22 years old. At least I can still say that this is what music really sounds like.

  • just great, remind me my student's days

  • Bossa nova... ?

  • Lets see, 1974 I was 4 and honestly remember hearing this tune frequently growing up. 5 years later I turned 9 and got a nice drum set from the fat bearded guy! Joined my first band at 14. I guess what I am trying to say is I always liked America, This song and all they have given us fans. Now 41 still love this tune & still have those 1979 Ludwigs. Oh Yea, 6 people SUCK!!!

  • @THEATREofPAIN270 I was 7 in 1974. When I hear music from this period, I realize that I know more music from this period than I thought. My sister was seven years older and I bet she played a lot of it. Thus I heard it in the background and learned a lot of it.

  • @THEATREofPAIN270 I remember listening to this on 8 track in my parents 1973 Oldsmobile. Brings back some really great times and some of the best music ever.

p.s. Those Ludwigs would bring a small fortune now a days.

  • @HKapollo Actually not worth too much. Kind of a common set, To my knowledge, A lot of those set sold and quite a bit are still around. I kind of believe it because some guy I know has an identical set. All original. He paid $275 for it, That was about 10 yrs ago. Have a great one dude.

  • @THEATREofPAIN270 Really, I saw a set fetch about $2000 here not to long ago. Maybe they were a specialized set of sorts.

  • what a nice song :)

  • I want to be crazy man.

  • When I've had a crappy day at work and all I want to do is punch some stupid motherfucker in the face......I just listen to a few lines of this smooooooth ass music and I'm once again "centered" Thank you AMERICA!!!!!

  • one of the most underrated american bands.

  • @jacksok2 I agree..they were just sort shoved aside because none of them were flashy and loud mouthed..just talented.

  • thx dad 4 making sure i liked music from your time rather then my own other wise i might have tuned out to be a stuck up teen :) (by the way i'm only 13)

  • @bjggjb Yeah, but with the Scarecrow she could have had a "roll in the hay", and with the Cowardly Lion she could have had ..........oh never mind... I had something to say, but too BAD to put here.

  • One Great Classic Tune !!!!! Thanks for the post. Fuck Yeah This Is Music.

  • I was told that back in the day, these guys got a bad rap for being "corporate" by all the "real" hippies. I still think they're great and this song is all about being yourself. The system can't give you anything you don't already have.

  • Ohhhh man. I had completely forgotten about this Absolue GEM of a song. Beautiful.

  • Do you thing they all boinked Dorothy?

  • @aspenrebel Nah, just the Tin Man. Dorothy just wanted to pump some iron.

  • This will Always be one of my favs by the group!

  • Dan Peek became a Christian in the 80's...made some pretty good music then, but nothing can touch America's music.

  • @MsChiChic wern't your parents critical of your generations music. I agree that the 90s were terrible but music is starting to get better. believe me, from a person that likes both generations of music. just stop being so critical of others musical prefrence

  • @MsChiChic Lol, every time i hear it on the road, i instantly think or say "YES!!!!"

  • Laid back beauty. woooh magical sound.

  • This is when music came from the heart and soul - it was called 'making music' and like 'making love' - it was ALL natural... not like the techno - digital bullshit we have today

  • ouch simple music but so please ;) give us such again a fucking good reason to smoke reefers and drunk beers or -even- tea with friends.

  • Musical mastery, makes no sense but it sounds so good it dosn't have to.I miss my youth I mean I miss it real bad,I had the best time. were did it go I just don't know.

  • @critchley3819

I know. The lyrics dont make sense lol but that doesnt matter because it sounds so damn good.

  • @SummernlightningUSA DAMN, DID YOU REALLY SAY THAT? WOW SO MUCH TO LEARN

  • PS: saw them twice in concert in the 70s - and those were two of the best concerts I"ve ever been to. (And I had a mad crush on Gerry Beckley!) When I was sixteen, I drew the back cover of the "Hearts" album and sent it to them, and got a really nice letter back from their publicist! And regarding their cross-cultural appeal, I know a 30-year-old African American man who loves them as much as I do. Great music is great music!

  • It wouldn't have been America without Dan Peek.

  • Im Mexican and here in mexico this music has a wide spread among all the people arround 40 years old and im 20

  • @Kevierae as a fellow negroid...as far as I'm concerned...these guys are considered folk I suppose...but they have just as much soul as anyone else....good music is good music...I was born in 85 so this doesn't bring back great times...but I can agree that this music is timeless

  • @nphamus This is Rock.

  • @DebSteR654 Great teacher!

  • greatsong, great musical act, great char from a great film!

  • Great song, This was a great soft-rock group of the 70's and into the 80's. Produced by Beatles' George Martin--of course you know the song would be great.
