a total insult to a great musical, Michael Crawford did an excellent job as the first Phantom, Davis Gaines, made us realize there is life for the musical after Crawford, Gerard Butler proved that the role of Phantom can be dramatically beautiful on the big screen and Anthony Crivello proved to be the next generation with a powerful voice just as awesome as his predecessors. I wouldn't be surprised if Antonio Banderas threw his hat in and tried for the role.

It seems to me that Harley had a lot of trouble singing this- he's definitely not cut out for the role. Sarah was fantastic as per usual- but her actions and face during the video kind of creeped me out. She looked possessed (that's probably the point) but the gray-white eyes towards the end are definitely a bit too creepy. I think the lyric differences are pretty good- I prefer the film version, tho1ugh. I liked the cape sequence too, where he flung his cape around her. Thanks for the upload!

Sarah's voice was at her best, so clear and the note in the end a miracle. Ken Russell did the clip (Director of a lot of films), really like that egyptian idea at the end of the clip.

Utter ridiculousness of the video aside, there's one thing about this version that I wish had carried over to all the subsequent versions: the fact that the Harley -harmonised- with Brightman.

This music video makes me laugh every time. Sarah was amazing from the beginning. However, the rest of the video is so dated and the song is much better than it appeared in this early rendering. You must admit that releasing a music video so early in the development process was ingenious. People were already fascinated by Phantom before it was released.

You know... I saw the 2004 movie first, and then proceeded to watch various versions of every song, sung by many, many people. I have never heard a version I didn't like... until now. I absolutely adore Michael Crawford, Gerald Butler, ever the performance Antonio Benderez did, but this one did nothing but make me cringe. I love Sarah, but I am not a fan of this Steve Harley. I'm very happy he was replaced by Crawford.
