  • i loved that they remade this game for the GBC

  • @evilmidget They made a pretty damn good port of Dragon's Lair for the ol' GBC considering the hardware limitations. Look it up if you haven't see it already. (the arcade one, not the shitty NES version)

  • this game was so freaky back in the day - the music still is! I NEVER played this game without my older brother in the room cause it was way too nerve wracking for a little kid like me! I pretty much just left it up to him to play :)

  • Call nintendo hot line 5 times to beat this game. Then got my ass beat by my dad. Was worth it.

  • Only 1 person disliked it.

    Guess who?

    Answer: NAVGTR!

  • i have this game on real NES ...only its the swedish version

  • Reminds me of Erik Satie

  • @eightbitgnosis EXACTLY. Song heard starting at 3:05 is just like Gnossiennes I

  • 1:41 and 2:15 is the best in my opinion! great game also! kinda creepy actually

  • Shadowgate: the only game where dieing is more fun than trying to beat it

  • love love this, the N64 sequel too.

  • to this day, this is the ONLY videogame that creeps the hell out of me

  • Luvd this game, but I always got freaked out everytime the torch was about to go out. N I could only get as far as the mirror room.

  • This game MADE me a gamer.

  • This music makes you want to kill yourself. Great music!

  • @moonregiment hahahaha

  • you could impliment real instruments and you would have a hit. these tunes are god songs played within limits of low grade sound devices

  • @fucheduck Look up Warrior King by Virt. )

  • brilliant, that first 30sec loop haunted me as a kid...

  • Why is this game NOT on virtual console!!!

  • Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww SNAP! This game consumed so many hours of my time. My best friend in middle school and I used to do speed runs of this game...so many memories...

but ill hope that the fucking fire dosnt burn out XDDDD

  • this game is sooo legentary !

  • 0:41 scares me a bit. Why? One word: NAVGTR.

  • But then again the whole soundtrack is creepy... But also really cool. :)

  • @WTFBOOMDOOM What you mean by that?

  • /watch?v=dQUws4pNhNE

    /watch?v=q5-zAljF4B0

    /watch?v=cdgCsRtHZCU

  • @WTFBOOMDOOM What does that even mean?

  • @phubans That's his theme.

He's a BAD reviewer. BAD reviewer

  • @WTFBOOMDOOM We have a wonderful idea. We think it would be great if shadowgate got breast cancer. This would give the industry something new and exciting. We know it sounds drastic, but think of the character building shadowgate would be getting?!

  • @TheLegendaryArmor Don't forget driving through waterfalls while trying to drive your pregnant wife to the hospital, before she delivers her baby... Of course, the police is in pursuit after you during all of that :)

    :D

  • @WTFBOOMDOOM That retard who said Super Mario 64 was better than Resident Evil and Tomb Raider was better than Resident Evil 2?

    That dude sucks.

  • @WTFBOOMDOOM

Yeah, I think he scares everyone with his incredible stupidity.

  • ¨You thrust your sword into your chest¨

    ¨Suicide won't help you in your quest!¨

    lesser-known death quote

  • reminds me of uninvited :D

  • Epor?

  • Rope spelled backwards. Speak this incantation and the rope on the full will rise up so you can climb to the next level.

  • 0:40 sounds a bit like Mahler symphony No7 1st part

  • Great music. And there were so many spots in that game that had me scratching my head for a long time.

  • My fondest memory of this game was committing sekkapu with a pool cue. That was hilarious.

  • 'seppuku'.

Haha yeah, many great memories from this game..most of which involved me dying. :D

  • don't you mean Deja Vu?

WHere the hell in castle Shadowgate was there ever a god damn pool table

  • 2nd song is a ubiquitous chip classic

  • The music says you will be scared but you will have fun.

  • No other way to describe that last song other than pure dread.

I used to have it on my phone... for when my parents called. :D

  • HAHA!! That's hilarious!

  • 1:40 is the start of the only song in this game that doesn't give me goosebumps.

  • 0:41

The only reason I knew that part was because I watched retsupurae, retsupurae the NAViGATr stuff.

  • Why does this look like Desa Vu.

  • That Dragon freaked me out!

  • That music from the courtyard, the first music you hear in this video, was my all time favorite from this game. I love it, to this day! Spectacular.

  • shadowgate a favorite... has anyone completed this!

  • My brother did, but it was NOT easy. He had to use a strategy guide though, sadly.

  • Not legitimately.

  • The theme that plays when you die is one of my all-time favorites.

    Oh and this game rocks

  • I never did beat this game, but the music was awesome. Whoever can beat this game without a guide is a god amongst men.

  • yeah this was a tuff game to learn without using any help. I never beat it either. what was cool about this game was that it just required brains as opposed to reflexes. and yeah the music was really incredible. My fav track is at 1:40.

  • It took me a whole weekend, and I'm talking like 24-7 to do it but I finally managed to beat it.

  • @archmageflash back in the days before the internet we had to beat it without guides...lots of trial and error. This was a game that tested your patience for sure. I remember being the only kid in 4th grade that beat this game though. I had to help everybody beat it, that was a good feeling.

  • Good game :P.

  • somebody needs to cover this. Namely Vomitron

  • Couldn't make a good compilation of NES games without this one. Used to scare the hell out of me when I first played it.

  • yeah i can remember being a lil freaked out too. such a different time back then, at that age. whatta trip.

  • I wish I could go back and play this game again as a child. I'm still loving it 20 years later.

  • I can still remember the day I bought this at the store with "my own money".

  • FYI : The first melody in this video (Shadowgate's main theme) is from Herb Alpert's song "1980" off of the album "Rise" which was released in 1979. ("Shadowgate" was not released until 1989) By the way, love this game.

  • There is a remarkable similarity, isn't there? Same bassline.

  • This game has some creepy music

  • all apart of the great atmosphere it provided imo. they music captured going down into dungeons fighting dragons and sorcery with the music very well imo.

  • I loved this game. I remember my mom would always try to help me figure out the puzzles on this game. great memories.

  • The 1:40 music that starts sounds like the equivalent of the Scarlet O'Hara music from Uninvited.

  • This game and Uninvited have awesome music. It's unfortunate that Shadowgate has that stupid giddy circus theme around the alchemist's area (0:41).

  • What are you talking about? That song is awesome! It's creepy and is fitting for the atmosphere of the game, IMO.

  • This has my vote for spookiest game music of all time.

  • Great game, food memories. I actually remember my mom trying to beat this and one day I sat down and figured it out. I'd say prob 1st grade, the final music was sooooo worth it too!

  • First in my entire family to beat it. Pissed my dad off something fierce. ROTFL

  • I still love this game! Used to scare me 20 years ago when I was 10 lol.

  • Me too, lol! And I was 12 ;D

  • This game makes the hair on my balls stand up.

  • "Kneeling down next to the fountain, you drink a handful of the acidic water.

You can't even scream because you no longer have a throat, let alone a larynx!!"

Dang... All I wanted was a drink, all that running around a castle holding a million torches among other large things kinda made me thirsty =(

  • 1:17

    IT'S A SAD THING THAT

    YOUR ADVENTURES HAVE

    ENDED HERE!!

    Always loved that game...

  • Kick-ass game! I own it too! But never beat it.

  • god I love this game. and the music is the best part. thanks.

  • Epic.

  • Best NES music of all time.

  • 0:40

Just a little note I'm leaving for myself.

  • Still one of my favorite NESoundtracks.

  • the music from this game has haunted me for 20 years! i can't believe you put it up here!!! ha!

  • The music is so mystical...

  • I remember seeing this game for the first time at one of my then friend's house. I remember him playing it and he would always call up the Nintendo Counselors.

  • The single greatest NES soundtrack in existence

  • this game freaked me out when i was young. like a horror movie. I couldn't play it after dark. :p

  • Exactly how i felt :D even though it was shitty grapichs i hated to play it alone :D

  • 1:17, the begining of the best tune from Shadowgate.

  • Very true my friend :D it really is good:D

  • I agree.

  • like everyone else who replied, I agree thumbs up

  • my vote is for 1:44 :)

  • ahh the grim reaper theme... so cool thanks for this vid and if someone wants to see all shadowgate deaths... i have a video of them :D

  • YES! Much love to Shadowgate. Great game with great music. The best part of the game is how clearly they explain the many ways you can die. Ah memories. XP

  • wanna watch my shadowgate all deaths video?

  • This was the first NES game I ever beat. I love the old-school Batman type "POW" when you hit something.

  • Whoa whoa whoa. This was the FIRST game you beat??

Jesus christ i remember all the games i beat in the time it took me to figure this son of a bitch out. I played this pre-"type the game name into google for a complete explination on how to do shit and a video to go with it" times.

  • I called the hotline :(

  • LMAO! Totally forgot about that damn hotline. Oh man, flash back. I mean I never called it, but, you know what I mean.

Anyway the story with this game and me was this...I played it for a really long ass time. Then my friend charlie saw it and got interested. So he played it for a while as well. Then we got a wicked idea to work together. He'd have it one week, then I would, and we traded back and forth updating each other as to what we did till it was beat :)

  • this game was my fav as a kid great music

  • you left out a track or 2

  • Yeah, none of my vids are complete soundtracks. Consider them samplings.

  • still sounds good though

  • My favorite song is at 0:42.

  • I feel like I've seen this before, it's like a case of Deja Vu (Yes, I'm lame, deal with it). I've only heard of this game, but I didn't know the NES version was setup like Deja Vu. Kind of lame in a way. They could of changed it a bit more than just adding a torch to the screen. Still, I'm sure it's a fun & frustrating game. Music sounds ok, but having to listen to it over long periods of time can be irritating, but I would suggest a CD player to cure that problem.

  • 1:40 was my all time favorite video game song as a kid!

  • Second that!

  • does anyone know who the composer was?

  • Uninvited, Deja Vu, I loved all 3 of these games.

  • One of the few games I actually bought the strategy guide for. :P

  • one of the few games you'd have to find a guide for to see the damn ending :p

  • THis game is perhaps one of the scariest damn things you could get for the NES at the time. This was the equivilent of Silent Hill for the PS1, or Fatal Frame for the PS2.

  • God...this game when i was little SCARED the shit out of me. Why you ask? Because i was born in 1988 enough said.

  • Response to orochitaco:

So you were playing this game when you were 1 year old?! You had brains & balls. =P

  • doesn't mean he played it the game when it first came out

  • I meant it as a joke, a really silly pointless joke...but a joke none the less.

  • The third song that plays is really only effective when the Grim Reaper is staring you down.

Anyway, this is great (though it's missing the crazy music that plays when your torches are about to extinguish).

  • how do you download the theme?

  • the ending is awesome too =D

  • My favorite video game soundtrack of all time, nice upload.

  • Seems like this game requires a whole lot of patience.

    It has some nice music.
