Another point to make, this song is NOT about Marmee. So the blocking is also terrible. It doesn't make sense that Marmee is away from Joe and in the spotlight
These are college students? My High School has done WAY better than this, and they weren't even seniors. This should perhaps be one of the most intense songs in the musical and it's crap. the acting sucks. in this scene Marmee is babying Joe. and I don't see that at all. in acting, touch is EVERYTHING. this marmee looks like shes afraid of joe! But I do have to say, I'm glad that this marmee didnt try to sound like an old lady. back then, women were popping out babies when they were 14!
Lovely set/costumes, lovely orchestra, lovely voice...awful acting. I'm not seeing the necessary emotional distress behind this song. Jo should be heartbroken - Marmee should be fighting to maintain her facade of strength in the wake of her daughter's death. Here, the song has no place in the scene. Jo is still under the impression that her mother is a structure of calm; this is the point at which that illusion is taken away, and for any child it is trauma. Throw in Beth dying and, well...
i don't think she played marmee very well. . she's not showing enough emotion especially since her daughter just died. . and the vibrato takes away from the song. .
this song is out of her range and she doesn't grasp the true character of marmee, she just said the words and sang the song as she might in that situation, it needs much more depth and maturity

The vibrato was a teeny bit distracting, but I love her voice! I thought it was beautiful!

The orchestra is beautiful, especially the strings - the viola around 55 seconds is gorgeous!
