  • My exhaust tips have big time rust around the welds connecting the tip to the pipe...Can I patch it or repair it at all? Muffler shop wanted to sell me a whole new exhaust when my muffler disconnected from so much rust...previous owner didnt take care of the truck at all

  • @infringinator you could patch it but it would be so much work that you might as well get a new exhaust. But id be a little careful with the guys at the muffler shop. They might make you over pay for a new exhaust.

  • @ThEc00lEr cant they just cut off the tips and weld new ones on? I dont know why I need a whole new exhaust if the tips are bad

  • @infringinator yes you could do that. But it will just rust again.Putting a new tip on is just temporary patch. Eventually you will need a new exhaust system.

  • @ThEc00lEr sad part is it passed on emissions and a month later the pipe broke off the muffler! Its all a big scam so the gov't can get more of our hard earned

  • @infringinator yup thats why i do all my work myself so i know its done right. The last owners of my truck tore it apart now i have to put it back together......But rust is just eating my truck from within. My cab it gone my hood is like Swiss cheese and my door bottoms are gone..... but it runs nice and drives like a dream...

  • @ThEc00lEr tell me what kind of things I can use to patch where they welded the tips to the pipe and I'll just try to make it look prettier. I dont have $400 right now to invest in a new exhaust

  • @infringinator ? well if you mean put a new tip on then get a saws all cut the tip off and then grind back the pipe to get a nice clean surface along with the tip. Then get a welder and get someone to hold the tip and and weld it on. Then if you want you can get some high heat paint and paint the pipe to make it look better. It is really that simple but hard to explain... If not you can just sand it back fill the holes with weld and do the same steps.
