I think someone at Microsoft knew it would generate (undeserved) attention, so they made a terrible, terrible video to "get the word out." In other words you can say that they did this random shit on purpose all you want, but this parody (I'm wiling to call it that anyway) did its job, and pretty damn well at that. Do you know how grateful I am for that? Look at apples marketshare with PC's and compare that to Microsofts. Now compare the way apple treats anyone who isn't apple, they over charge and lock them in, and they patent and aggressively litigate anything. The US govt sued Microsoft for anti-competitive behavior. Microsoft have got a reputation for smothering competitors and overcharging for sub standard technology (vista is probably the worst quality operating system ever released). Apple do have their bad points but you can't really argue they are a monopoly compared to Microsoft. It's just bullshit.

Smothering competition? (Ipod, itunes constantly changed to prevent people from using it)? Substandard technology? (Macs are just expensive tech with a different OS, some of the macs cost 800 bucks to add 4 more gigs of ram)

Oh and Vista didn't suck, it just used too much resources and had driver problems. windows 7 is basically the exact same thing as windows vista only with a new skin, less crapware, and more drivers. It works great.

Look at the way apple uses the ipgone. Monopoly.

I don't think the RAM is that much. Macs use intel and standard DDR2. Macs are expensive but not sub standard.

Vista really did suck if anything sucked. Most people hate it. And windows 7 wouldn't exist if it didn't suck so much. An Operating System should use resources efficiently and connect to commonly used peripherals to consider itself "operating". That was the problem with Vista. It doesn't operate well.

If you want cheap technology that works maybe you should consider Linux!

Macs DO charge you that much for ram, they overcharge for everything on macs because that is trendy.

Windows 7 has the same requirements as windows vista. windows 7 would still exist if windows vista was great, because Microsoft is running a consumer tredmill.

First, *APPLE* charges a lot for RAM. The Mac is a computer.

As for upgrading the RAM, do what I did with my MacBook Pro: buy your RAM upgrade elsewhere and install it yourself! All you need to do is make sure the RAM is the correct type and is compatible with the bus speed your computer operates at. It's not hard to do unless you're a technophobe.

Macs use industry standard RAM like any other computer.

So, what's the problem in that regard?

I agree with the first paragraph, mac DOES actually monopolize and over-advertise substandard software and attemptes to justify it with a forced "chic" factor but Vista DOES suck as well. As rimian said in a post responding to yours mac does use proprietary intel chips but that only reinforces oEQjet's initial statment, intel is a generally overpriced chipset when compared with an amd chip of similar or better performance, much the same as a pc vs. a mac.

You can see why Microsoft disabled both comments and ratings when they posted their video... what a pathetic attempt to make Windows 7 sound cool. Haven't tried it yet, maybe it IS cool. But Microsoft's video makes me doubt that - it's a sales prevention tool.

This is easily the most out of touch marketing scheme of all time. They may have got away with it (just) for Windows 95 and letting folks use the internet, office & even messing about with screen-savers for the first time, but (especially) after the recent epic fail of Vista, this is an outrageous slap in the face for consumers.
