Gilles Peterson is a legend and Soil & "Pimp" Sessions have the potential to become one also. I hope they keep touring and making wicked, boundary breaking jazz - and that's not easy, given how much energy spills over the stage on their concerts.
I LOVE THIS BAAAAAAAAAAAAAND!!! My Favorite Album Is "Planet Pimp". I Think Their Best Songs Are "Mars", "Avalanche", "J.D.F", "Pluto" and "Sea Of Tranquility"
@sh1monn I know you commented a year ago, but unless you still want to know, that piece is called "A Wheel Within A Wheel" of their second album "Pimp Master." It's a great piece, just like this band!
Shacho on stage doesn't seem to do more than shouting at the audience, but we caught him playing the bassline on the keyboard when the bass was down on a few tracks. And that's him behind SAHARA and HYPE OF GOLD, which he wrote (on the new Pimpoint LP), as well as co-writing to other tracks. A humble guy.. Go get the LP!
.. do you mean the Cinematic Orchestra one? I'm not aware of a Soil&Pimp track with this name, let me know if I missed a gem! And on Cinematic Orchestra: I haven't found a real emotional connection to it yet, but still listening to Ma Fleur regularly to get into it..
those guys are AWESOME. I am still recovering from their Jazz Café London gig last June 19th, where I could get their PIMPOINT CD that is about to be released. Don't miss the LP, and if you like them on CD, be prepared to absolutely LOVE them on stage!
Brilliant musicians who keep it groovy even when the bass gave up, shared the fun with the audience and gave us so much energy it hurt for a week!

What's shacho's real job in the band? 'Agitator' is a bit vague.
SouIjacker 4 years ago
Shacho's role? Dunno, but, whatever it is, it sure is funky!
stephenry2 4 years ago
shacho is the "agitator". he basically keeps the energy flowing and the directs the "spirit" of the music
