  • Fabulous!

  • he is so talented, and very handsonme, beside the point? not to me. bliss...

  • @memejayify I agree! Love him! :-)

  • Holy Cow!!!!

  • Colm Wilkinson is wonderful, but he'll never, ever, sing Bring Him Home like Anthony Warlow does here (IMHO). Anthony has the voice of an angel and the power and control of a God. Colm has a nice mid range growl but an undeniably awkward break between head tone and falsetto. But lets just enjoy them all for their respective talents.

  • beautiful version. Only recently been introduced to Anthony by an Australian friend & have fallen in love with his voice.

  • This is great. I did not realise that Anthony Warlow played Enjorlas in the original production in Australia. Best Valjean has to be the original and one and only Colm Wilkinson followed by John Owen Jones. Other great Valjeans include Dudu Fisher of Israel, Tommy Korberg of Sweden, Oystein wiik of Norway, Gary Morris of the USA and Phil Cavillfrom the UK.

  • @leedscab123 mate..I have seen them all..but perhaps you are unaware of an aussie back in 1989 normie rowe. He truly was the best valjean but was snubbed for the 25th anniversary. check it out.

  • Just when I thought I had already heard the best ever versions I listen to this one, absolutely superb, goosebumps and lump in throat, this is the human voice at its ultimate best x

  • So, I get chills every single time after 2:26. Anybody else?

  • I could try to describe this, but I don't think I'd do a very good job.

  • Why the hell is "asian ninja ab workout" the top promoted/related video for this video?

  • perfection! There is no male equal.

  • I met him once and he is as lovely as his voice!

  • he is the best to me.

  • I didn't think anyone could sing as good as Alfie. But wow! Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!

  • This is just incredible.

  • anthony anthony you make me cry amazing, what a talent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm sorry, I don't ever really criticize people, but WHO WAS THE ABSOLUTE TOTAL IDIOT WHO DISLIKED THIS VIDEO!?!

  • The best!

  • Many great singers and stages. I believe Anthony's is the most polished and accomplished version. Michael Crawford can not be topped on Oh Holy Night but on this he can be. David Miller is a pure and powerful raw talent. Having said all this; I prefer Alfie Boe's interpretation due to his inspiring, prayerful delivery. He makes me tear up.

  • You can all argue all you want, but I'd like to add that tonight I saw Anthony Warlow in Dr Zhivago and he was brilliant. This man makes what he does seem effortless and he does need us to defend him....his work speaks for itself. I'm just grateful that Australia has such a phenomenally talented singer/actor for us to enjoy time and time again.

  • Amazing. I've never even heard of him. He's fantastic!!

  • I've just got this song sent to me. (Thanks Pia.) I've not heard a voice like this since 'Jussi Bjorling' (Pearl Fishers) I'm not saying he's as good as Jussi, but how do you compare? you can't and shouldn't. I just want to say that this is wonderful and beautiful. Wow! what a voice. You people out there, feel it and wonder at it, you'll not hear better. Elliott for you my son. God please! "bring him home", please! I love you Elli, always will, I promise I will never give up on you Daddy.

  • I like this rendition much better than all the Alfie Boe ones I have been hearing lately

  • You can all argue about skill all you want, but you miss out the most important part to a song like this. Passion. If you truly do not feel the emotion, the tremble of sadness in a man's voice in this song, then you have not sung it right. I feel nothing but passion from Anthony and Colm with this song. As well as vocal perfection. You do not have to be a tenor and a tenor alone to perfect this. Tahts just restricting.

  • Actually, this is pretty good. After listening to douzens that didn't even compare to Colm Wilkinson, he's quite a contender.

  • I've seen Anthony live many times and he leaves me breathless every single time. To this day he is the only artist who stirs so much emotion in me that I am reduced to tears (for the right reasons). He is my favourite and I am privileged to be able to say that I have seen him perform the phantom on two occasions. Anthony, to call you a star is not enough, you are a living legend.

  • I've never heard of him but, boy is this guy good!

  • Today is the very first I have ever heard of Anthony Warlow. This guy is an absolutely amazing singer. Incredible voice. I feel I have missed out on something so wonderful for so long.

  • perfect voice i never get enuogh of this song.

  • Stunning. Seen the show, been in the show, this guy's the best.

  • God on high hear my prayer In my need you have always been there. He is young, he's afraid let him rest heaven blessed. Bring him home, bring him home. He's like the son I might have known, If God had granted me a son. The summers die one by one how soon they fly on and on, and I am old and will be gone. Bring him peace, bring him joy he is young, he is only a boy. You can take, you can give, let him be, let him live. If I die, let me die, let him live, bring him home, bring him home. Elli x

  • @onlylexus THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • Check out Anthony singing 'Now' from new musical Doctor Zhivago on our channel - it will send shivers down your spine! (in a good way) :)

  • Warlow regards himself as a light baritone. Frankly many tenors would be hard put to sing this with his tenor ring.

It makes a mockery of the rigid fach system which literally and actually pigeonholes singers regardless of their ability.

  • @donaldrose

Then they aren't very good tenors. A tenor who actually knows how to sing will not find this piece difficult.

Warlow has an amazing gift. He is one of the very few who knows how to sing with a full voice. We are so used to Broadway style singers who mostly all sing with such a squeeze in their throats that it is so refreshing to hear him. I don't like him in this piece personally, but still, for a baritone, pretty darn good! His "Anthem" & "This is the moment" are legendary though!

  • @aarontenor I would definitely not call a tenor who has to work at this piece a bad tenor. No matter what your voice class, this song leaps from chest voice to head voice over and over again, requires clean mixing and then for a powerful effect clean belting. It's simply a difficult piece of music and takes work to perfect it.

  • @baripower73

I didn't say "bad." I said, "not very good." :) A true tenor who actually has talent will NOT have to work at this piece. Sorry, but that is the truth. As for Anthony, he is a baritone and amazing as a baritone and handled the piece well, for a baritone. As for what you are saying about chest and head voice, that is not a difficulty for a talented tenor. The best I've ever heard this sung is by Jeff Layton.

  • @aarontenor The "work" you hear is emotional (not vocal) work. Why split hairs? Warlow is a tenor as much as Placido Domingo is a tenor--both have rich, lower notes, and effortless control over their high notes. That this song works better when the voice has a little more "heft" may be just my opinion, but the rendition here cannot, on this planet or any other, be called "not very good" with a straight face. This song is not a lullaby; in it, a man calls out to God in desperation.

  • @berowne9

I did say, "not very good." But in the same paragraph I said, "pretty darn good" for a baritone. I love Warlow and have made that clear. He is my favorite musical theater singer, ever! This piece just didn't sound as easy as I would like to hear it. A tenor at his level of vocal expertise with have zero difficulty. That's the only point I tried to make. Sorry if you thought I was somehow putting Warlow down. I wasn't. But come on, there is no need to fight me about it.

  • @aarontenor I'm not fighting you, I'm arguing with you. And you should be open to such an argument whenever you post public comments. I still maintain Warlow, too, had "zero difficulty," and could have sung it as smooth as silk...if that's what the song required.

  • I have just got this track sent to me. (Thanks Pia.) I've not heard a voice like this since 'Jussi Bjorling' (look at Pearl Fishers) I'm not saying he's as good as Jussi, but how do you compare? you cant and shouldn't. I just want to say that this is wonderful and beautiful. Wow! what a voice. You people out there, feel it and wonder at it, you'll not hear better. Elliott for you my son. God please! "bring him home", please!. I love you Elli, always will. Daddy.

  • jesus, he does leave one breathless, doesn't he? incredible singer.

  • The best ever Bring Him Home. Alfie Boe does quite well in the 25th Anniversary concert, and is a brilliant Jean Valjean. But Anthony Warlow made me love this song.

  • Despite the fact that I'll always think of him as Enjolras, this is AMAZING!

His range is incredible- this coming from me just listening to him sing Music of the Night, super-low compared to this.

  • Love you Anthony

  • The best version I've ever heard. Such power and control... An idol to me.

  • sing it! Bring him home!

  • One of the best voices of his generation. This is flawless.

  • Anthony has sung this song better than any other who tried. its even better than the original.

  • I want an Australian revival of Les Mis. My dream cast would be this:

    Valjean = Anthony Warlow

Javert = reprised by Philip Quast

    Fantine = Marina Prior

    Eponine = Alinta Chidzey

    Cosette = Julie Goodwin

    Marius = Josh Pieterman

    Enjolras = David Hobson

This is so beautiful. I would pay to see Warlow perform this live!

  • @UnoriginalJess92 Eh, Hobson's too high for Enjorlas. I definitely love the general idea though, and the casting of Warlow, Prior, and Quast! Nobody sings Javert like Quast!

  • @UnoriginalJess92 i agree to all of that except having warlow as enjorlas. listen to that and youll understand!

  • Gosh, this man is great in everything he does. So jealous.

  • thank you so much for posting this song. It gave me goose bumps and brought me to tears. The most beautifull version of this sone I have ever heard.

Anthony Warlow is truely a wonderfull talent.

  • Superb. I have to admit that I am a JOJ fan; nobody has his power and emotion. This guy is good though - put it this way, I wish I sang like him.

  • anthony warlow is a virtuous technician, a profound storyteller when he utters the lyrics, an actor with a deep well of emotions..... he must be knighted soon.

  • It's always hard to compare and not fair. both anthony and colm are great artists and bring to their performances a unique energy and flavor based on their individual artistry.

  • Amazing. Purely, amazing.

  • Wonderful, but I agree that Colm Wilkinson just can't be beaten for this song or the role of Valjean generally. That said, if Warlow can sing a strong B above middle C he would be an awesome Valjean for any future Australian production of Les Mis.

  • i love anthony but colm wilkinson makes me cry when he sings this song...still love anthony though

  • its very good but i'm still in love withcolm wilkinson's version

  • No one does it like anthony warlow.... you should try to listen to "This is the moment" he is the king.

  • Eito87 ur an idiot Michael crawford was brilliant! he had a soft seductive voice for the phantom. while a nice baritone powerful voice is nice, Crawford being a tenor could sing that song with such ease. thats why hes probably the best Phantom.

  • @LoudFast1234 Don't be a fool. Crawford is rubbish.

  • @Joomington look i love baritones cause i am one, all the phantoms on broadway r pretty good, and the fact that u r saying that he is a rubbish makes u a fool, because u probably have nowhere near his ability to sing or act.

  • @LoudFast1234 Anthony Warlow has a vocal range that ranges from Baritone to high Tenor. He actually has one of the largest ranges in musical theater. Just saying, he could do it like Crawford if he wanted...he chose not too.

  • @killianlock there is no way u could possibly know that.

  • @LoudFast1234 no way I could know what?? His vocal range? Anybody who's a warlow fan knows his range.

  • colm wilkinson is the best im affraid.... iv been listening to this musical all ov my life... and u cnt beat him... althought this was very close

  • He is a really great singer but John Owen-Jones Owns this song.

  • Warlow is one of the best singers out there - no point comparing to Crawford and Ball - no comparison technically and from an overall quality perspective.... This isn't even a role he would sing and it is still incredible!

  • Sorry "Eito87" but Michael has a wonderfully powerful voice and is the ORIGINAL, AWARD WINNING PHANTOM. Warlow is a good performer but what I like about Michael is that he combined a powerful voice with a beautifully expressive and passionate voice. Plus Michaels acting is top notch!!! Go see MC perform before making uneducated comments about an actor/singert as good as MC. I respect Michael and Anthony. Each one has roles they have excelled in.

  • agree great acting.. but crawford is a broadway not a great voice.. opera has many better even musical theater.. best i heard was at an andrew loyd webber concert in the park in st louis..

  • Brilliant

  • where do you find these recording?

  • i almost think he sounds too young, but i am in no position to critique

  • I agree, Colm Wilkinson has age and understanding. I am a Warlow fan, but this is Colms song...........

  • My words exactly, although I do love listening to this, and Anthony is my favorite singer of all-time. But Colm's version means more to me and I like that one even more.

  • It's all about how they make you feel, whether they can make the song touch you in some way..... Warlow singing Phantom stops me dead, I listen hard and critically, he is flawless...

  • Think Warlow defines himself as a light baritone...

  • Michael Crawford is considered the best Phantom! I do like Anthony Warlows Jekyll & Hyde though very much and Michael and Anthony both have recorded a pretty wide range of music and are both very good vocalists. Plus Michael has been a huge help to "The Lighthouse Foundation" in Australia and has a daughter and several grandchildren who live there as well.

  • you did it again. yes michael is considered the best but once again you go into a long droning friggin monologue about how great he is. WE FRIGGIN GET IT HE'S A GREAT MAN!! But this video isnt about michael its anthony just leave it be you do this on every friggin video oyu commet on

  • i dont like michael crawford at all... he dosent have the strong powerful voice the phantom should have in my opinion

  • Comment removed

  • Anthony Warlow is probably the best actor/singer of his generation. I've seen him in Operetta and Grand Opera. Sadly he has not been in a any musicals when I've been in OZ. He's considered the best ever Phantom . He even played Teen Angel in the Arena Stadium Tour of "Grease". The video of "The Main Event" concert, shows off his entertainment skills. His recordings range from musical theatre "Jekyll & Hyde" to Big Band, Jazz and Swingtime. He beat cancer. He should be a household name worldwide

  • @stjamespaul i 100% agree with you! i loved it when he was enjorlas in les miserable. i listened to the version with him in it over 100 times (literally). he is a true star and hero in so many ways.

  • @stjamespaul

    I agree....................!!!!!!

  • Yep . . He is a real contender for the best ever rendition of this almighty song. My 1234 Today is John Owen Jones, Anthony Warlow, Alfie Boe, Colm Wilkinson. But Tomorrow it will prob change - AGAIN !!!

  • @MrMassachussetts How can you have Colm last when he is the one that the composers of the musical wrote the song for?

  • I love the last note!!!

  • okay does no one else think he kinda bums a bit on the final note compared to how amazing he is in the middle its like a bit og a let donw, he has an amazing voice though.

  • You are kidding aren't you? Perfectly controlled pianissimo falsetto! Wish I could do it....!!

  • yeah i just listened to it again and have no idea what i was talking about lol

  • sounds kinda like John Cudia.

  • jc19940 , too often, constructive critisism is frowned upon here. You may think that, but in my humble opinion, AW has such an intimate knowledge of his voice, that if he sounds a certain way, its because he wants that sound specifically, meaning, its a acting choice. :)

  • Okay, i know ur all going to slam me; i reckon that warlow has the most awesome voice, but he sounds too young; his voice is actually too clear for the song, i still like colm better.

  • I've got tears in my eyes. That is just startlingly beautiful...

  • @trc751

He is classed as a 2nd Tenor. This means he has the range of a batitone plus the bottom end of the tenor range. How do I know, I teach music and although my vocal range is that of a baritone, i can also hit the top notes of Bring him home without going falsetto.

  • stop classing his voice people! He's just wonderful. anyone can be trained to use that part of the voice even if their tessitura is lower down. Some people have a low down and high up tessitura.

  • What a beautiful voice, I would say he is a barritone with a good vocal range. Absolutely singing at it's best

  • He is a baritenor -- Both baritone and tenor.

  • Baritenor? lol

    He's either a Bass 1 (Baritone) or Tenor 2

  • yes baritenor someone who has both a lower range to classify them as a baritone but also has an upper register, i am one myself my upper register goes up to a b natural and in chest voice an a flat so yea you can be a baritenor. nooooo way iks he's a bass 1

  • Baritenor is actually a term. it's one with the best qualities of both. :)

  • he's a tenor''

barritones cannot hit such high notes,

and tenors are the most sort after voice...

  • I'm a baritone and I've hit that high as well, although they're far beyond my comfort zone so they're usually sung in falseto...the notes aren't that high and are probably within his comfort zone...it's all about comfort zone...if he can hit it confortably and it sounds good, then it's in his range....it's his technique that tells you whether or not he's tenor...and after watching him sing Music Of The Night I'd def say he's Baritenor or dramatic baritone...

  • He is AMAZING. <3333

  • Never heard of this bloke, but boy oh boy he is one hell of a good singer...

  • Too right! He is awesome!

  • I love it!!

  • I <3 Anthony Warlow.

He has one of the most beautiful, God-given voices I've ever heard. This is an amazing recording, thanks for putting it up!

  • @UnoriginalJess92

thanks from me too !!!! Just amazing

  • can someone please find me a better male vocalist in musical theatre than anthony warlow? coz i cant find one. the guy is unbelievable

  • There is no one like him. He's perfection...I'm a lifetime 'Warlowhead'.

  • actually if you search jamie davies singing unsettled scores, he is good

  • i only said that because its me, thought it would be a pretty funny comparison

  • give John Owen Jones a go

    he's pretty epic too

  • yeah he is cool, but warlow has everything, great voice, tone, power and emotion, you can just hear how much he loves it every time he sings

  • IMO the absolute best, by a long margin, studio recording of this song. Ever.

  • Yeah okay um WOW. *jaw drops*

  • I just discovered Anthony Warlow from a video of Pirates of Penzance. This is one of my favorite songs and he has a new fan for life

  • Yeah I see that you're right..I apologize for making a blind statement.. Anthony Warlow is a very talented singer, He can easily trump many of the popular Tenors with his deep range extending from a powerful baritone to a resonating tenor

  • beautiful

wud luv to ee him as valjean

  • GReat..definately a tenor..but he knows how to make use his chest voice to sound like a baritone

  • Actually, he is technically a baritone. Anthony himself has stated this in a few interviews. ^.^

  • but..isnt kinda impossible for baritones to hit hih Bs nd Cs?

  • Apparently not! Anthony has done opera as well many roles in music theatre. Given his remarkable range, he has the ability to play roles that call for a tenor in the libretto. I think it's because of this that people often mistake him for a tenor.

I'll have a look around for an interview where he says he's a baritone... *goes searching*

  • Range isn't necessarily a determining factor for vocal parts. There are tenors who can't get past an A, and there are baritones who can reach a Bb. Vocal parts are more so determined by the tone of the voice.

  • That probably holds true for most of music, but I can understand the ambiguity in his voice. I still believe he is a high lyric baritone for the roles he has played. Jekyll, Phantom, Enjolras, all baritone roles.

  • jekyll and phantom are tenor roles...hes a tenor

  • Phantom is a bit either-either. As long as the Raoul is 'opposite' to the Phantom's voice(i.e Phantom's a tenor, Raoul's a baritone) so yeah. I'm pretty sure Anthony's a baritenor, which is a tenor trained as a baritone.

  • You're right, Phantom can really be either a Baritone or a Tenor with a good range. It seems fairly obvious seeing Warlow in the Australian Phantom Tour that he's a baritone with a range that, though it extends into tenor territory, clearly has all the timbre and affectations of a baritone.

  • @cpjc08 actually its not, Like Warlow my vocal range extends from baritone to tenor and through a falsetto I can reach countertenor, so coming from a person capable of it himself, it's not imppossible

  • @FilmRangers Well pardon me while I play the grand piano.

  • @TheatreArt you're pardoned.

  • Whatever you think he is, he was classically trained as a baritone. He is commonly described as a baritone with an amazing bright top.

  • Oh my...

  • this is gorgeous!!

but i still like colm's better

  • For one of the most challanging songs in the Theatre world... 10 out of 10!

    Warlow is simply the best...

  • I'm surprised that a Baritone can sing this song very well...

  • Warlow is Tenor....

  • Um...no he's not. He's clarified as high baritone, there for he can sing tenor songs quitew well.

  • actually i have to agree with Crenmagicman. I met Anthony after Phantom and asked what his vocal range was and he said "tenor"

  • How about "tenor that can sing really low surprisingly beautifully" or, as Brad Little, another can-sing-everything calls himself, a "baritenor."

  • How about "monster?" The man's so good he's a beast!!

  • He may seem tenor, but his timbre is baritone. So I'd classify him as high lyric baritone.

Plus, while they are not common notes for baritones such as myself, F#, G#, and A (the three highest notes in this song) are very singable notes, especially F#, arguably the most important note of the song.

  • well, i will always see him as a "Musical Theatre" tenor, even if not a Opera one. There's Singing "Music of the night" Beautifully, and then there is "La Donna e Mobile"

  • Well he is a baritone though...

  • Oh my goodness. Fantastic!

  • One of my favourite songs from my favourite musicals... and its a tough sing (I've performed it myself... obviously nowhere near as good as this :))

    Warlow simply rocks!!!

  • Oh my gosh. This is stunning!!!!! I thought John Owen-Jones had it in the bag BUT..... Gorgeous too!!

  • 'bout damn time he sang this...excellent=]

  • I'd marry that man if I could, just to have him sing to me.

  • Seconded! I love Anthony.

  • Outstanding!!!
