  • Well I guess "Fly space shuttle" is no longer on my list of unrealistic things to do.

  • Wrong concept from the very beginning, given our actual possibilities in terms of rocket technology (Challenger), material resistance to atmospheric reentry(Columbia), and costs...But what a beautiful mistake, truely the Concord of space flight! I hope something similar will exist in the future, when all these pbs are solved.

  • @wollin20 Wrong concept? I'm sorry, I didn't know you had a better concept than all of NASA, given the funding they were allotted. Do not be so arrogant as to propose you know better, and do not be so arrogant as to compare the shuttle to existing launch platforms. It is in principle the same as comparing a dump truck and a Camry, both have wheels and an engine but one is more expensive and serves a completely different and more specialized purpose.

  • Why did it retire?

  • @sam9524 It costs lots of money to operate it, and it has cost 14 humans there life..

  • @elskerstine More than that, I can think of a few people who died processing the orbiters, the most recent death happened in 2010, when a falling wrench struck a worker on the pad. Tragic.

  • "Thank you Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Endeavour and our ship Atlantis. Thank you for protecting us and bringing this program to such a fitting end. God bless all of you. God bless the United States of America."

Iconic words that will surely be played again and again as time moves on, bringing the incredible Space Shuttle program to a final stop.

Well done to the Space Shuttles, you deserve it!!

  • Hear his voice trembling at 0:57?

  • history lands

  • beautiful landing but what a sad ending to an era of space flight, hope to see nasa back in space soon. the space shuttle will be missed by many people

  • This video has been added to your Favorites.

  • You liked this video. We'll use this to improve your recommendations.

  • Well done Nasa. You can be proud of you!!!

  • Notice Stoozor is the only one.

  • What voyage???? This thing was not able to leave Earth's orbit.. Traveled Where??

  • sucks for all the people that have been in a university that wanted to be a space major they spent couple of years in a university for nothing

  • thank you nasa and atlantis for 30 years of great discoveries in space here in portugal we all love you thank you

  • @AizenSamaKingX AAAAAAH I SEE. You are one of the countless people who believe they are an incarnation of Michael Archangel? LOL. Oh yeah, seen people like you before... and they _ARE_ idiots.

  • @Stoozor When did I say I was an incarnation of Michael? You talk from your bottom a lot. Where did that statement even come from? Who is talking about Archangel Michael? You? You and the herd are making yourselves look dumb. You shall see.

  • I feel for all those people - thousands - that will loose their job effective tomorrow. I was in the NASA facility the day after the launch and the people there are in a type of shock because they do not know what is to become of the carreer they devoted their entire lives to. Politics aside, NO ONE that is working an honest, ethical living should have to endure the pain of loosing their job.

  • Final landing of a wonderful bird.

  • What is the shuttle venting at the end of the clip? The hot air on the thermal imaging?

  • @kinito1 Its APU exhaust....

  • Fishing the Orion capsule out of the ocean is going to logistically suck.

Wonder if Richard Branson's company with privatized flights is going to have the same history as the Concord?

  • NGN is made up of many view points.

  • @NewGuardNetwork why did you put that video if you are critical about the program??

  • perfect final landing job well done america...

  • *sobs*

  • I was crying wen they landing today at 6am Thumps up for NASA

  • Good job NASA, this is truly an end of an era, over 100 successful missions. You did beautifully for a last mission, if only the crews of STS-51-L, and STS-107 could've seen it, at least they watch down from heaven. Again amazing job NASA

  • Humans, the final mission was to place radiation emission detectors outside of the planet because Elenin is arriving. INASA and NASA is preparing for what is coming this September. Do research, humans. Seriously. Next, the Secretary of Treasury will resign, same as in Deep Impact movie. When shall you humans understand? The next alignment with Elenin is September 26. 25, 26, and 27th, 2011. Obama is having a national emergency broadcast on November 9, same day asteroid 2005 yu55 passes Earth.

  • @AizenSamaKingX You totally look like an idiot calling people "humans" like you're anything else. Just saying.

  • @Stoozor Ironic. Then "Humanoids" is better. It's astounding how you call me an "idiot" like you are anything else. Hilarious indeed.

  • @AizenSamaKingX Oooooh you make a point there!..... NOT!

Lol. You can't even tell the difference between being called an idiot and being told that you look like an idiot.

That along with your little lame unfounded come back actually are good reasons to think of you as a stupid person.

I am telling you again : You look like a fucking idiot calling others "humans" or "humanoids" like you're anything else. It doesn't fucking matter that you agree or not, this is what you look like, idiot.

  • @Stoozor First, when did I say I was not a humanoid? More presumptions. Pitiful. You make yourself look bad; subsequently, proving the obvious. Either do research or don't waste your time yelling like the 6 year young girl who didn't get her doll for Christmas. Do your own research on Elenin, Honda, Levy, asteroid 2005 yu55, Yelenina, Eris, Marduk, Nibiru, etc. I will not waste my time. Good day, mate.

  • @AizenSamaKingX Judging by your name, you are exactly as young as your words suggest.

  • @AizenSamaKingX You got a nice Michael Archangel wallpaper on your channel and you say "you humans" like you aren't a human yourself. Your attempt to get away with saying that you didn't explicitly express that you aren't a humanoid is pretty lame : your choice of words and what you said shows very well what you believe and think... Lawl

Also, I don't fucking care about Elenin, Elenin or not doesn't change the fact that you look like an idiot when you talk like you aren't a human yourself.

  • @AizenSamaKingX Your attempt to move the debate to Elenin was pretty lame, too.

  • The Space Shuttle will be 4ever in all our hearts

  • a sad end to an era, now maybe we will see the new ufo/triangle shaped aircraft of the future.

  • @wcbob63 Na not really. Future crafts will still be rocket propelled technology. The new x1 is a more advanced rocket similar to the one used in the Apollo Missions but more high tech and smaller. And cheaper which was the ultimate driving force to retire the shuttles. We are still 100 to 200 years away from faster more highly advanced methods of space craft travel.

  • Very nice landing! Such a shame the program is ending....

  • think of how many people just became unemployed now that the shuttles are all retired

  • Comment removed

  • and that bring 30 years of historical space travel to a close

  • You will be missed Atlantis.

  • I was up in the wee hours of the morning to see this. It pains me that even though one of my goals was to witness this amazing machine live in action, I will never get that chance. Watching STS-135 lift off drew tears from my eyes, and the landing sparked the same emotion. Thank you to the shuttle program and all her crew...we'll meet you on 5-3....

  • The space shuttle i grew up with. Thanks to Obama it is now gone.

  • @DVA5656 I believe the planning for the end of the program began in the Bush administration.

  • @DVA5656 Maybe. But still, fuck obama

  • @DVA5656, I quit blaming George Bush and Barack Obama because in United States no president can make a decision for the Country without the decision being approved with by Congress. I'm in nooo way disagreeing with you because i feel the same. As we know to every Action there's an Equal and Opposite Reaction. Instead of Goverment Space Flight, now Space Flight has been Privatized by the invention of Spaceship One. America is We the People, and not Me the Government fuck everybody else..LOL

  • Dear All,

I have some questions about psychology and future's vision:

    (1) Why do we love space flying?

    (2) Why do human want to put a lot of effort and money to design space shuttle?

    (3) When we dream about the next generation of new space vehicle, where should we start our thinking for inspiration?

    (4) How will we benefit in long term when NASA contract space transportation to outside companies?

    (5) What style should we travel to space again?

THANK YOU IN ADAVNCE for ideas!

  • The end of an era. Well done NASA!

  • beautiful last landing!! hope they'll soon build another astonishing shuttle to go back to space

  • @kebabfarci Not anytime soon. At least not for you.

  • @AizenSamaKingX LOL you really think you are over the other "humans" .. you look like an idiot instead... maybe you're too dumb to think that this kind of Nasa's project make people dream and if you're not passionated just go away play with your kid games. To finish, just read scientific articles dealing with the future of nasa's space project and you'll see that they will SOON go back in space (2015-2016).

  • @kebabfarci @Stoozor Ironic. Then "Humanoids" is better. It's astounding how you call me an "idiot" like you are anything else. Hilarious indeed.

  • @kebabfarci no more shuttles

  • @kebabfarci Yeeeeeeah, don't hold your breath. Their new spacecraft is something that looks like those old

Apollo space capsules. A HUGE step backwards...at least, that's how I see it. =/

  • @NitroJunkie626 Yep I agree it's just because their budget got largely cut-off :/ so now they are obliged to make a bid around private companies like boeing or lockheed martin who indeed proposed capsules like Apollo. But I think that if it permits to go farther than the moon for instance on an asteroid or mars this little step backwards on the spacecraft will be forgotten. But they still have a huge work to accomplish to have a spacecraft as featured and sure as the space shuttle.

  • @kebabfarci I just wish they had kept flying the space shuttles until the new craft was actually built. I feel that the current administration wants to cancel all American involvement in space travel, if Obama gets re-elected, they'll succeed. As for the new craft, I think it's far too primitive, it's as if they took an Apollo capsule and added 3 extra seats. They intend to build a moon base with it...but I don't see how that's possible without any cargo space.

  • @NitroJunkie626 with the current economical state of the world, it seems like another shuttle-like program will have to wait for some time

  • @NitroJunkie626 How is something that can go beyond LEO a step backwards? The shuttle is fantastic for what it is designed for - orbital assembly; however for nearly all other purposes, space capsules are superior in every respect. Lighter, cheaper, easier to repurpose, more efficient, the list goes on. Saying capsules are a step backwards is like saying wheels are a step backwards, we have fancy caterpillar tracks now, why should we go back to wheels? Because they serve a different purpose.

  • @UndeadPizzaGuy Lately, I've become more aware that it serves a different purpose. Hell, before I found out that Orion is for moon expeditions, I was extremely upset. I thought it was just a larger Soyuz capsule. (hence the "backwards" remark) It's clear that the new system is superior to the shuttle, but I thought we would have a vessel-like spaceship by now, and THAT is infinitely better than BOTH of them. I have a few ideas for a new vehicle, but they would be a little more expensive...

  • @NitroJunkie626 I don't understand what you mean by "vessel like". Spacecraft with wings are less efficient than capsules. Wings only work for the shuttle because the shuttle is not designed to go beyond orbit, and because it routinely takes off and lands, unlike capsules which are typically only used once. Wings are worse than useless beyond LEO, they are just dead-weight. No matter how far in the future we get, I can promise you no interplanetary spacecraft will have wings.

  • @UndeadPizzaGuy Well, obviously we don't need wings in deep space. Wings are only needed for atmospheric operations...or holding up engines like the ones on the Starship Enterprise. :D

  • i still dont gt it why nasa will cut off ? are they gonna work on the capsle that they are building now?

  • @MrWiaam12 because its to expensive. Its so sad..:(

  • @777McCarranjunior but they are building capsule will reach to mars and deep space : first test for it will be in 2016

AND THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD FUCKING GIVE NASA ALL THE MONEY

  • Job well done America! A sad day. Love from Sydney, Australia.

  • America has led the world with its pionering spirit, the Shuttle will live long in our memories !

  • Despite being an overly complex design, the Shuttles did a good job. I will miss them. It just feels empty knowing that there is no replacement ready to roll.

  • WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
