They needed to use uncompressed background, or compress him before overlaying, and needed to go in and rotoscope the edges, a very tedious job, to really sell it...

Not much use for a compositing program on youtube as compositing is really for making a picture that never existed, or if you want total control of you graphics and have them overlayed and animated. Compositing has it's place but animation is a very slow process and unless you can't live w/o it, i don't know if the returns are worth the effort.
