Actually it is not early 80's, this one is Il était une fois les Explorateurs, from 1996-1997, but they kept the same graphic from Il etait une fois l'homme (1978) and Il etait une fois la Vie ( once upon a time, life) from 1986.

@Zazalahyene of course they could/can. kids aren't stupid, even if adults love to pretend they are. I watched the show and the others when I was a kid. learned a great deal.

i really missed these animated series. it has succeeded to instill interest in science and history during my childhood. it is really an edutainment program!

In Sweden we had only the first three series. I wish SVT could broadcast the last three series too.

Great series. I made my culture with all those episode, when i was a kid my teachers were stuned by all i known for my age :)

Why weren't most of these shown in the US? I feel cheated...they are wonderful,all 4 series!

I remember watching this when is was 4 or 5 and being totally enthralled by the stories and teachings. I'm guessing, but it was probably rejected by US TV networks on amount that the 'Once Upon A Time...Man' series featuring the Darwinian evolution cycle that ended with an apocalyptical ending. Contradictory to the 'Jesus story' and Hollywood don't like gloomy endings. In my opinion this was an accurate and insightful depiction of where we're from and where were going as a spices. Tre bein!
