i think if jane had married him she wouldn't have written these books!can you imagine jane with babies?? she was inspired by him and the fact that he abandoned her!!
society dictated everything back in those days even whether you as a woman were able to marry . The most touching thing about the film is When Jane lets Mr Lefroy go , she does it because she loves him so much and knows without his money he gets from his Uncle his family will not mangage . She lets him go because she loved him so much.
Oh my goodness, I am a guy, and even I am overwhelmed by how romantic this scene and movie are. This scene (including the dance) and the end are among the most romantic, bittersweet moments I've ever seen in film.
Picture was very dark, but i loved the scene! Very romantic by the stream. I wanted Macovy to speak more softly.. passionately.. but i love the lines he spoke!
After he says 'I am yours' the first time, she gasps just a little bit. Its really effective. I love him, he is just perfect... Such an emotional scene, I've watched it so many times. Thank you for posting!
I don't know why, but the moment when he almost leans away before she kisses him just makes me melt! He knows what they're doing is improper, but he's never cared about that in regards to himself. It's his concern for her reputation that makes him almost pull away. Almost. ;-)
@chickachickaboom222 Thats exactly how I feel too... I cried at the end. I was so happy that they were together, that when she left, it felt like the end of the world. I'm such a romantic...
oh my i completely love this scene !!! i can feel my heart pounding extra fast when james said "i'm yours"! it's such a terrific line.. they're both really great.. how i wish they're together in real life too :D hehe.
yeah, this is my favorite scene too..and I love the same line..lefroy's expression when he said those words is really something I can't explain..mcavoy's such a good actor..
in real life tom lefroy's and jane austen's love was not that serious. he did admit to loving her but said it was a "boyish love". sounds like it was just a crush. nothing that serious. jane austen only wrote two letter about lefroy and none of them imply anything near as serious as the movie depicted their relationship to have been. but it is implied that tom lefroy was jane austen's inspiration for Pride & Prejudice.
i also did that. read a book with a collection of letters sent to her sister. mr. lefroy was urged by his relatives not to get too close to jane austen so he began avoiding her. that's how their romance ended. also, jane only wrote a few letters about lefroy, none concerning anything near dramatic as you described. their love was like a teenage crush. i don't know where you got your info.
well it's not the only book you can read for jane austen. and about the letters, they won't be as straightforward as people nowadays...anyway, this is what makes austen's story is more interesting. It might happen, it might not. Well, it's a beautiful movie anyhow...hope at least you enjoyed it...=)
OMG I fell in love in this scene, I scream like a little baby girl when he said Im yours.OMG He knows How 2 take a womens hearts away lol Im so silly!!
omg. this is my second favourite scene...but it has the most magical moment ever..i get goosebumps when i watch james mcavoy touch her neck after they finish kissing. its just so indescribable how much i love that choice of action. it gets me every time
To be honest, I knew how the movie would have to end (because Austen never married) so I just stopped watching after this scene. I choose to believe this is where the movie ended.....makes life much easier.
wow, i love this movie but... WHY DOES IT HAS TO BE SOOO DEPRESSING!!! it gets me in a really sad/crummy mood after every time i watch it, except i like this part :)

"i am yours" !!!!!
I cry everytime i see this..it breaks my heart with the fact that they never got together...i know this part by heart...i wish she hadn't read that letter...because then they would have been together...and it made me upset when her brothers friend wrote the letter about the two of them
i know i cry everytime or close to tears too. it breaks my heart too. i know i wish that she hadn't read that letter either. i know i was upset about her brothers friend writing that letter. i was soooo mad at that guy after that. anyways, one of the best parts of the saddest movie ever! this is my 2nd fav movie. :-)
i feel bad for her...even though if they didnt end up together she probably wouldnt have written such great novels...but its depressing that she ended up all alone :(
I love his voice, his looks, his charm, his personality his green velvet coat and his arrogance. I love everything about him that's not being listed. He's incredibly sexy and I want to have him say that to me. <33333333 xD
he looks like an amazing kisser =D the way he like puts his head back and forth as he kisses her is hotttt. gosh i'd give a kidney just to kiss him xD

There are two great scences in this movie and this is one of them. The other is when he sees her after she accepts the other man's proposal. He goes up to her and kisses madly, saying I cannot live this lie, we should be together!
Oh my God "I'm yours heart and soul" it just makes me melt. If any guy said those words he would be the hottest ever. The passion and emotion just burst from this scene, it is my absolute favorite. Plus he is totally gorgeous
I am enchanted by the old world romance in this movie. Jane and Tom would have made a very good couple. However, being in love myself I understand why Jane had to make that sacrifice.
I think you're right. But according to me, what you can see in his eyes at the end it's also to mean how much he's proud of her. Afterward she's began the equal of a masculin author, as he told her in the Lefroy's library. In fact, it seemed he was the only man she really love in her whole life. So I must thank Mr Tomas Lefroy for all the fantastic novels she wrote.
This is one of my favorite part of the movie. He looked so upset when his Aunt and Lucy tells him that Mr Wisley is good for Jane and that she should marry him at once, and then when he see's Jane at the pond they finally showed eachother how they really feel...
It was so romantic when he says to jane that he was her's heart and soul. I think he meant that because at the end of the movie you could tell in his eyes that he was still hers . (Maybe it's just me)
