  • Eleven year old me was jumping up and down screaming my lungs out in celebration for a good 10-15 minutes after this goal.

  • "And Gretzky couldn't handle the puck" more like Gretzky couldn't handle The Captain

  • this and the 1999-2000 season haunts me as well. Fuccccccck

  • this was beyond painful. beyond.

  • 3:00 they say "Federov-Yzerman combination"

Now it's the "Datsyuk- Zetterberg combination"

Next will be "Nyquist - Tatar combination"

  • DING!!!

  • Blues fans like myself have our dreams haunted by this.

  • My favorite part by far is Scotty shuffling out onto the ice as fast as he can to jump in the celebration

  • EPIC GOAL

  • Steve is The Best Red Wings Player

  • I'm a Blues fan and I love them, but you can't deny one of the greatest moments in hockey history or Yzerman's wicked shot!

  • The guy at 2:00 is totally freaking out, and who can blame him. Rocket of a shot!

  • The night Detroit became a TRUE hockeytown. Wow, this gives me chills even today.

  • Jon Casey was probably one of the dislikes.

  • the night Steve Yzerman became an icon in Detroit.

  • conference finals* my bad

  • The night team russia and a few other dudes won the cup lol

  • One of THE moments in hockey. Show this to anyone who wonders what makes the sport exciting.

  • Wow, he embarrassed Gretzky...Holy shit.

  • When i was 2, my dad told me he was holding me when watching this game. turns out he stood up and screamed at the TV and dropped me on my head. This was so classic though, i'm proud of that.

  • @tcarlson2014 He should have strangled you

  • @strider119 haha whatever man, whether you're a wings fan or not, this was an amazing goal.

  • @tcarlson2014 haha i would have dropped you to =D

  • "SIXTY FOOT SLAP SHOT BY THE CAPTAIN!!!!" This easily is one of my favorite Red Wings moments and I wasn't even a hockey fan yet. I was only six then

  • I rememeber being up itil 1am watching this game!!! Great memory! Go Wings!

  • fuckin' snipe!

  • Mickey Redmond sounds crazy.

  • it happens at 1:58

  • Steve Yzerman will go down as one of the greatest captains and players to ever grace the NHL.

  • @CoreyPerrySucks 1- Gretzkey

    2- Lemieux

    3- Yzerman

  • one of the greatest momets in sport history.....love this game and team...

  • 0:57 hahaha rocking devo at the joe!

  • You mean the Blues had Gretzky,Pronger,Hull, and MacGinnis and still lost???

  • goosebumps. makes me tear up, I saw this happen live. biggest slapper in history.

  • BANG!

  • God I miss this duo calling the Wings games. Both excellent at what they do.

  • Did you see all the octopi on the ice after wards

  • @dzucch and wayne gretzky

  • Yzerman was pure class... what a shot

  • Bar Downn.

  • My god whatta shot, sucks for the Blues. They had so many great teams they were just in the wrong era.....Love Scotty Bowman running on the ice lol

  • Must be said: The Blues were a very classy team.

Also, Yzerman took the puck from Gretzky...

  • @dzucch lmao...

  • wouldn't that suck if you where there, and you got up to take a piss and you would miss it?

  • Man, Mickey Redmond is the worst when it comes to interrupting the play by play announcer. Whether its Dave Strader or Ken Daniels, he always interrupts them. Just terrible.

  • to this day that is the loudest I have ever heard that place

  • poor jon casey, kept them in the game for so long, and the blues couldn't get it done. Oh well, i hate both of these teams anyway. GO BLACKHAWKS!

  • Steve Yzerman wins it with a bullet!

  • this killed me. notice how gretzky gave up that puck with a lazy play.

  • did they win it all back in that year?

  • @zimThuet The next year.

  • oh man mickey redmond rocks!!!! he is a true red wings fan.. GO WINGS GO STEVIE Y!! BEST CAPTAIN!

  • I liked how the Blues consoled Casey afterwards. He kept them in the game and was fantastic.

  • I listened to both the ESPN and the UPN broadcast and the UPN broadcast of this is the best one!

  • @mcneal78 mickey Redmond rocks

  • @dzucch HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA YES!

  • BINGO!!!!

  • 1 person is a sore losing St. Louis fan

  • Strader was a great announcer, I watched him call wings games for years. We just didnt know how great Daniels would turn out to be. It takes a hell of a broadcaster to make Strader look bad.

  • Mickey Redmond's Knees just exploded

  • that was gretzky's greatest assist ever

  • @Winger97

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • I was only 8 years old when this happened, and I remener this happening

  • I've always wondered what would people do if they were taking a piss when this happened, lol. To miss a shot like this. Oh man, I would have been pissed, lol

  • Who the hell is the dumbass who clicked dislike on this video???

  • @CoreyPerrySucks a troll, that's who. that, or a Wings hater.

  • @MrPhilionaire lol, yea, Even if someone is not a Wings fan, how can u hate on this video, This video is one of the greatest shots by one of the best NHL captains to ever play the game.

    Go Wings!!!!!!

  • @CoreyPerrySucks not just captains. by one of the greatest players ever! LET'S GO RED WINGS!

  • @MrPhilionaire i stand corrected you are absolutely right, lol Also to add it was one of the greatest shots by one of the greatest players who played on the greatest sports franchise :D

    GO WINGS!!!!!

  • @MrPhilionaire And as much as we love Lidstrom here Stevie will always be "THE CAPTAIN"

  • not to mention Gretzky of all people giving that puck over.

  • @CoreyPerrySucks a blues fan

  • @CoreyPerrySucks Jon Casey

  • @CoreyPerrySucks Probably a Blues fan. This loss started a whole string of Blues' playoff losses to the Wings (1996, 1997, 1998, 2002). lol

  • @CoreyPerrySucks blues fan obviously

  • An Avalanche fan.

  • @CoreyPerrySucks corey perry

  • @CoreyPerrySucks Jon Casey , and Avery disliked this XD

  • @CoreyPerrySucks Wayne Gretzky.

  • @CoreyPerrySucks Wayne Gretzky

  • @CoreyPerrySucks Someone who probably only likes the ESPN feed and doesn't appreciate local announcers.

  • #19 Will always be loved in Detroit. Stevie all of here in Detroit miss you already, we all wish you the best of luck to you down in Tampa. As much as we love Lidstrom Stevie will always be THE CAPTAIN..

  • Man Stevie was amazing

  • Crazy to think that this goal allowed for the birth of one of the greatest sports rivalries EVER....Wings vs Avs!!!

  • BINGO!!!!!!!!!!

  • I really miss Dave Strader calling Wings games. I wish he would have stayed with the Wings instead of going to ESPN.

  • now i wonder where i can find the CBC version of this goal, they seem to not have that version on youtube

  • Top 10 moment of anyone's life who was raised in Detroit.

  • Great quality. Is this from a vhs? I have this on dvd in the greatest games set but that uses the ESPN broadcast.

Too bad they couldn't put both versions on one disc (plus radio) where you could just switch between them on your remote.

  • @Knightmessenger Vhs to DVD then uploaded.

  • in my opinion, Yzerman is the player ever in the NHL.

  • Red Wings need a New Arena

  • this was by far the best team in nhl history not to win the stanley cup!

  • mickey Redmond rocks!!

  • OH MY 60 FOOTER BINGOOOOOOOOOO, LOVE MICKEY

  • One of the greatest moments in Red Wing history

  • Credit to Casey. He got beat by the hardest shot to stop. Go Wings!!!

  • damn this is like 1080p

  • Double overtime 0 - 0 game winning goal to take to the conference finals. Wow, what a boring game and time for hockey./ Thank god Bettman came in and now we have 6-1 games with 27 PP's a night.

God I wish we could go back to these days. In that 1 min span, I saw about 40 things that would have been a BS penalty today.

Give us our sport back buttfuc- i mean bettman.

  • Might be the only time in Fedorov's 18 year career that a commentator said that he "bulled" his way to the front of the net.

  • Thanks for posting the whole video, and not just the clip. Good quality too, thanks.

  • I lurve Scotty Bowman in this video trying to jump in the pile

  • this was may 16th 1996.........the next series was against Colorado and Lemieux hit Draper...and my 52 inch tv was launched through my front window lol

  • "Detroit and Colorado will tee it up right here on suday afternoon" ...i think that next series vs. colorado is what started the huge rivalry

  • hey this is great quality

  • this was in 1997, not '96

  • @CaptainPayback no this was definately '96

  • @CaptainPayback no this was definately '96

  • @dandandamattressman oh, my mistake then

  • Whomp there it is!!!

  • Heh, he called Osgood a kid. I haven't heard that in a WHILE. I never knew Yzerman was on the trading block? And I never realized Datsyuk shared Kozlov's number. Great franchise.

  • 1:59 the building seemed quiet. a second plus a loud ping later, i can barely hear the announcers. The whole building just exploded. Damnit i wish i was born earlier than 1992 so i could have been to or watched on tv more games like this. Steve yzerman is one of the best. no wonder they put this moment in that history will be made commercials.

  • class by the blues crosby wouldve probably left the ice and cried not shook hands

  • great to see the UPN broadcast, along with the CBC broadcast. remember, ESPN's broadcast was blacked out in the Detroit area due to the local station broadcasting! Now would love to hear Bruce Martin's crazy call from the radio.

  • I miss those games on UPN 50.

It's hard to watch Wings on TV anymore.

  • Gretzky's greatest assist

  • @notanotanota too bad those two idiots jumped up and blocked the view of it. haha.

  • Good to see Scotty Bowman jump on the ice and celebrate with the players. Probably the greatest coach in the history of the game. What a player Stevie Y was!!

  • hahahaha when fetisov gave him a bear hug at the end. I love this call. Gary Thorne's was classic but this was perfect because for about twenty seconds dave and mick acted like fans and started going nuts (mostly mickey)

  • From 1:57 to 2:12 probably is the BEST combination of sounds I've ever heard in my life. It's so epic, Chuck Norris cried.

  • Think about this for a second: Game 7, at home, double overtime, and the captain and face of the team scores on a moving, blue-line, slapshot goal and it was the ONLY GOAL in the over 4 PERIODS of hockey. Not to mention the fact it was post and in, and that sound you heard, was not only the sound of the puck going in, but the sound of greatness coming back to the Detroit Red Wings...from here on this team turned around.

  • love the vintage Mickey. 60 FOOTER!!! BINGOOOOOOOOOO!

  • Oh, we still had the Russian 5 at this point. That still might be one of the greatest lines of all time

  • One of the greatest goals of all-time just simply amazing.

  • Gosh Strader was so bad... I'm so glad we got Ken Holland... drastic improvement. Love hearing vintage Micky tho.

  • @weezerbholly Ken Daniels, not Ken Holland

  • @dzucch Ha yea. Thats what I meant. Glad we have Holland though too...

  • @dzucch Yes, Daniels is better than Strader. I miss Bruce Martyn, on the radio. Ken Kal absolutely sucks!

  • @weezerbholly Uh, I can think of a few worse announcers than Strader...

  • @weezerbholly he was good, but daniels is a lot better

  • good times....i was 5 at the time lol

  • I remember this vividly. I miss some of those players, Yzerman and Fedorov on the same line....unfair.

  • that's just fantastic. maybe the shot heard around the world.

  • what a shot!

  • listen to how young Mickey Redmond sounds. lol

  • That was a snipe if I've ever seen one

  • I am a huge Gary Thorne (and Avs) fan but this call is awesome. This goal is epic

  • holy shit, i've never seen anything other than the espn version. thanks!

  • Definitely the best video of this goal on YouTube.

Thanks for uploading it. Gives me goosebumps every time!

  • Look at all the octopus on the ice! I love this shot. greatest one I have ever seen! RED WINGS FOREVER!

  • best version of this historic moment. nice job

  • Thanks

  • great stuff. nice and clear footage. gives one of the greatest goals in history a nice look. thanks channel 50 or whoever put this on

  • that call gives me the chills... i don't think I've ever heard the UPN50 broadcast! only heard ESPN's Gary Thorne and CBC's Bob Cole...

    wooo!

  • This is truly one of the all-time kick ass goals. And the series that followed birthed one of the all-time kick ass sports rivalries.

  • The Channel 50 feed. Awesome! Thanks for this! Strader's last game calling the Wings.

  • that goal still makes me cry. I had my brand new shiny #99 Blues jersey on and everything....sigh

  • The Captian! what else do you hae to say?

  • That's Strader and Mickey Redmond.

  • dave strader is the best...him and jim hughson are a pleasure to listen to

  • lol 96-about 99 had the real wings greal team

  • Yzerman: "God damnit Fedorov, I give you the PERFECT PASS and you fuck it up. Looks like I have to do this shit myself."

  • heeeey...what Fedorov goal in 1992? i wanna see that....anybody know where to find it???

  • Greatest RedWing roster.....especially the Russian 5 and Yzerman

  • LOL! "Sixty footer...BINGOOOOOOO!!!"

You just knew Mickey was gonna explode when Yzerman scored. XD

  • Great video. I had never seen the local broadcast before.
