When i was 2, my dad told me he was holding me when watching this game. turns out he stood up and screamed at the TV and dropped me on my head. This was so classic though, i'm proud of that.
Man, Mickey Redmond is the worst when it comes to interrupting the play by play announcer. Whether its Dave Strader or Ken Daniels, he always interrupts them. Just terrible.
Strader was a great announcer, I watched him call wings games for years. We just didnt know how great Daniels would turn out to be. It takes a hell of a broadcaster to make Strader look bad.
I've always wondered what would people do if they were taking a piss when this happened, lol. To miss a shot like this. Oh man, I would have been pissed, lol
@MrPhilionaire lol, yea, Even if someone is not a Wings fan, how can u hate on this video, This video is one of the greatest shots by one of the best NHL captains to ever play the game.
@MrPhilionaire i stand corrected you are absolutely right, lol Also to add it was one of the greatest shots by one of the greatest players who played on the greatest sports franchise :D
#19 Will always be loved in Detroit. Stevie all of here in Detroit miss you already, we all wish you the best of luck to you down in Tampa. As much as we love Lidstrom Stevie will always be THE CAPTAIN..
Double overtime 0 - 0 game winning goal to take to the conference finals. Wow, what a boring game and time for hockey./ Thank god Bettman came in and now we have 6-1 games with 27 PP's a night.
God I wish we could go back to these days. In that 1 min span, I saw about 40 things that would have been a BS penalty today.

this was may 16th 1996.........the next series was against Colorado and Lemieux hit Draper...and my 52 inch tv was launched through my front window lol
Heh, he called Osgood a kid. I haven't heard that in a WHILE. I never knew Yzerman was on the trading block? And I never realized Datsyuk shared Kozlov's number. Great franchise.
1:59 the building seemed quiet. a second plus a loud ping later, i can barely hear the announcers. The whole building just exploded. Damnit i wish i was born earlier than 1992 so i could have been to or watched on tv more games like this. Steve yzerman is one of the best. no wonder they put this moment in that history will be made commercials.
great to see the UPN broadcast, along with the CBC broadcast. remember, ESPN's broadcast was blacked out in the Detroit area due to the local station broadcasting! Now would love to hear Bruce Martin's crazy call from the radio.
Good to see Scotty Bowman jump on the ice and celebrate with the players. Probably the greatest coach in the history of the game. What a player Stevie Y was!!
hahahaha when fetisov gave him a bear hug at the end. I love this call. Gary Thorne's was classic but this was perfect because for about twenty seconds dave and mick acted like fans and started going nuts (mostly mickey)
Think about this for a second: Game 7, at home, double overtime, and the captain and face of the team scores on a moving, blue-line, slapshot goal and it was the ONLY GOAL in the over 4 PERIODS of hockey. Not to mention the fact it was post and in, and that sound you heard, was not only the sound of the puck going in, but the sound of greatness coming back to the Detroit Red Wings...from here on this team turned around.
"I remember Darren Helm doing a similar celebration about 30 minutes later. Whoops."
This was your comment about Kane's goal in game 5... well I hope you enjoyed that game and that series buddy, because thats the last fond memories you'll have of any Blackhawks vs red wings series for a VERY LONG TIME. Whoops.
Eleven year old me was jumping up and down screaming my lungs out in celebration for a good 10-15 minutes after this goal.
