I watched the launch from the Kennedy visitor centre with my wife and two kids, We flew all the way from Singapore to Florida for the launch (and also to visit Epcot/Disney). We were still at the visitor centre after the launch when we saw bus load after bus load of excited visitors returning to the centre. Did we missed a chance to watch the launch at a nearer viewing point? We had tickets for the launch.
We (four friends an I) were there too. We directly came from Miami just to watch the start. We reached 5 minutes before at the bridge over the banana river.
This event was the highlight of our one week trip to Florida (08.11. till 15.11.08)
Nice!!! Very nice!!! In this moment I became a great fan of the NASA.
I was there. I was even closer then the press! My dad works at NASA, and the Combustion RAC he worked on went up on the shuttle. So, the only people closer than us were the astronauts themselves.
Just watched this live from New Smyrna Beach in Florida! Incredible! The beach was absolutely packed. It was almost like watching the sun rise. I hope I got some good pics.
What a magnificent novelty shell! Bottle rockets have sure gotten big nowadays .-)
