Needles should always be sterile. If you are getting pierced somewhere that doesn't use sterile needles, it doesn't matter if you are pregnant or not. Just sayin'.
If you already have a belly button piercing you can switch to bioflex barbell once you find out you're pregnant. Secondly, it's still not a good idea to get other piercings while pregnant cause your body is already under a lot of stress healing a piercing will just make your body work more. Not a good idea

You do not have to take out your belly jewelry. There are belly jewelry out there that are meant for pregnancy or non-pregnant women. PTFE, Bioflex, Tygon, are flexible plastic. They bend with the body, non-metal, comfortable, non-stick, for pregnant women or non pregnant, ect. I have a PTFE bar in my navel piercing. I am not pregnant, but they are comfortable and flexible to wear. As she said about C-section is wrong. C-Section is done below the navel. Not on it.

Switching out your jewelry to the pregnancy ring does help, they are usually made of tygon or PTFE and are flexable and move with your body as your belly expands.

I got my tattoo when I was pregnant.. But I didn't know I was. My son came out fine. It was on my shoulder, anyway, so it didn't get deformed. If you go to a proper place where they're clean and sterile you don't have to worry about HIV or hepatitis. However, the trauma to your body brought on by getting a tattoo can have a stressful effect on your child but it's not a huge risk. That's what my obygyn told me. Still not a risk I would have willingly taken knowing I was pregnant, though.

There are some places that won't even pierce you if you're on your PERIOD, let alone pregnant. These are the RESPONSIBLE piercing places, and not your typical mall shop that uses a (dangerous) gun. Putting a foreign object in your body while your hormones are working overtime is never a good idea. Feel free to plan out your tattoo or piercing, and treat yourself when your baby's arrived, it can be your gift to you for a successful delivery :)

Your body may even try to reject any piercings you had before getting pregnant, it's not uncommon for them to get sore or swollen. Not that I condone getting any modification if you're pregnant, but contrary to popular belief, you can actually be HIV positive and not pass it on to your child. In fact, the chances actually favor that you will not pass it on, however, there is no guarantee. Research is being done on making the delivery less prone to pass the virus as well. You would be surprised how much is separated between mother and child during pregnancy.

Did she really just say that tattoo guns are unsterilized? Those things get just as sterilized as the tools doctors use during surgery, and the needles and ink are always fresh and not reused. Piercing needles are also sterilized between uses. The danger lies in the possibility of infection (because you are making a wound there is always this risk) or poisoning (because tattoo ink can poison you if the tattoo requires enough ink).
never, repeat never use medical equipment as a standard. Look closely at the news and you'll see that there are instances every week of infectious transmission by way of poorly sterilized surgical tools.

Also, I'd be willing to bet that tattoo and piercing artists sterilize their tools a lot better than doctors since their ability to stay in business requires them to do a good job, with doctors, they can just blame whatever company they ship dirty tools to to get sterilized. Most tattoo and piercing artists do their own sterilization.

There are some places that won't even pierce you if you're on your PERIOD, let alone pregnant. These are the RESPONSIBLE piercing places, and not your typical mall shop that uses a (dangerous) gun. Putting a foreign object in your body while your hormones are working overtime is never a good idea. Feel free to plan out your tattoo or piercing, and treat yourself when your baby's arrived, it can be your gift to you for a successful delivery :)

I mean, there are still people piercing with guns, because the dangers of it aren't exactly well-known yet. It's one of those "Better safe than sorry" sort of things that some studios use.

Actually; you can have a bellybutton ring whilst pregnant. They make specialty ones. As for taking it out; it doesn't matter if you've had it for a few months. Just put it in after you pop the kid out.

It's not recommended to get any piercings while pregnant, your body will try to reject them not wanting to put baby at any risk. Your body may even try to reject any piercings you had before getting pregnant, it's not uncommon for them to get sore or swollen. It's best to wait after you're done breastfeeding to get a piercing, if you do choose to breastfeed after birth.

Not that I condone getting any modification if you're pregnant, but contrary to popular belief, you can actually be HIV positive and not pass it on to your child. In fact, the chances actually favor that you will not pass it on, however, there is no guarantee. Research is being done on making the delivery less prone to pass the virus as well. You would be surprised how much is separated between mother and child during pregnancy.

Somehow that does not seem to me to be an example of good judgement. Tattoos are a bit of an odd topic. Often poor judgement is involved. In regards to tattooing, it has a very long history. It was probably done for group identification, differentiating one group from another for survival/safety purposes. @robost In some cases the piercings aren't even the persons choice...I got my ear piercings when I was about 2months old and most women/girls I know got theirs by about 1 year. and piercings are cultural. Do some research. piercings were quite often on the same level as tattoos when it came to certain tribes historically speaking. In some even the sewing up of a girls crotch until her wedding night when her husband would then open it to ensure chastity

It's unfair to you and your baby to do that to your body...you're trying to grow this thing inside of you, why would you want to take away resources from that process, and allocate them to healing a wound that was entirely unnecessary and avoidable?

Did she really just say that tattoo guns are unsterilized? Those things get just as sterilized as the tools doctors use during surgery, and the needles and ink are always fresh and not reused. Piercing needles are also sterilized between uses. The danger lies in the possibility of infection (because you are making a wound there is always this risk) or poisoning (because tattoo ink can poison you if the tattoo requires enough ink).

Also, I'd be willing to bet that tattoo and piercing artists sterilize their tools a lot better than doctors since their ability to stay in business requires them to do a good job, with doctors, they can just blame whatever company they ship dirty tools to to get sterilized. Most tattoo and piercing artists do their own sterilization.

My point is, it is possible to nearly eliminate the risk that you will get an infection from the tools used, and as long as you keep it clean afterward everything will be fine.
