According to "The Great Bear Almanac", along with several other sources, a brown bear has the strength to kill an adult bull American bison with just one paw swipe. I know it doesn't always happen that way, but if we're talking 500 lbs of cat against 2,000 lbs of bovine, I have to give it to the buffalo more often than not.

There have been 3 reported attacks committed by wild orcas, but none of them have been fatal. The each time the whales simply mistook the humans for a natural prey item, but always realized their mistake before they killed the human.
Don't forget a brown bear could stand on its hind legs (12 ft I think) idk how a lion or a tiger could kill it other than scratching the bears legs. And a whale can hold it's breath for up to 20 mins some over a hour the whale can easily dive down and swim away.

@IamMarrow Don't bother with that one. I've PM'ed him solid evidence that brown bears>big cats, including African lions and Siberian tigers, but he clearly wants no part of it. I've sent him a link showing that those lion vs grizzly fights were organized time and time again and the winner was the bear every time. Even one showing that an old, lean male brown bear can kill a grown Siberian tiger with three swipes of its claws (I can only assume it missed the spine the first two times).

But he was exposed in the early 90's for staging animal encounters. I wouldn't trust a cougar or a grizzly, but they can both be trained to some degree. That video you posted was faked.

How a bear hunts depends on the prey rather more than anything. Small land animals, like mule deer and bison calves, are usually caught in chases. Bigger land animals like elk and bison are often killed in fights, when the bear finishes them off either with a neck bite or a paw swipe to the spine. Aquatic prey they just grab.

According to "The Great Bear Almanac", along with several other sources, a brown bear has the strength to kill an adult bull American bison with just one paw swipe. And I agree with gazaraki123 on the African lion vs African buffalo topic. I know it doesn't always happen that way, but if we're talking 500 lbs of cat against 2,000 lbs of bovine, I have to give it to the buffalo more often than not.

There have been 3 reported attacks committed by wild orcas, but none of them have been fatal. The each time the whales simply mistook the humans for a natural prey item, but always realized their mistake before they killed the human.

The elephant mauled the lion with its trunk and it later gorged the lion with its tusks. The lion did everything it could to stand its ground. As for the nile croc killing a lioness. LimeyThunder says that lions hunt buffalo, which they admittedly do, but he conveniently left out that more often than not lion hunts end in failure (15%-30% success rate) and that even when the lions attack in groups, buffalo have been known to kill them. 1. Siberian tigers only prey on brown bear cubs. The largest one ever killed was a female that weighed 170kg.
2. Brown bears have been known to consume tigers after killing them. The link to the book I sent you supports that.
3. The largest brown bear ever found was a wild 2,500 lb Kodiak. Big males in coastal areas can reach 1,500 lbs at peak times.
4. I respect the lion, but few will challenge one. They have some of Africa's easiest lives.

4. You think a male lion has an easy life? wtf... they have some of the hardest lives anywhere in the animal kingdom, ask an expert. brown bears on the other hand... well they dont exactly have a rough time

@LimeyThunder You said brown bears have never been known to prey on tigers, yet they have. And how does a male lion have it rough? They rarely do any of their own hunting, and it's not like the hyenas they constantly take food from would disagree. Grizzlies do the same thing. They take food from other predators, but the grizzly is better at it. They are built for fighting, more so than the lion. You say you're sure a lion would eat a bear, but you have no evidence to that.

@NavyDogfish I have huger evidence that a lion would eat a bear considering they are meat-EATERS!... have you seen a 12yr old lion before?... theyre faces are strewn with scars. Bears are not built for fighting, they are built to look big and stock up with fat for heavy winters, they are only predators as much as a hippo is. Just let it go, just because youre an american you think that grizzly bears are all powerful: well they are not.

@LimeyThunder Brown bears are carnivores too. But the bear wouldn't exactly let the lion eat it alive. The lion would have to kill it to eat it. But it won't likely kill the bear. Bears are built for fighting! They fight COUGARS, TIGERS, and WOLF PACKS. And they ALMOST ALWAYS WIN. You're the one who needs to let it go, as you clearly think the lion is invincible. I don't support the grizzly because I'm American, but I have more common sense than you.

@LimeyThunder Not to rub it in, but do a bit of research on that cougar/grizzly video. Research Marty Stouffer. He directed quite a few "Wild America" videos, that one included. But he was exposed in the early 90's for staging animal encounters. I wouldn't trust a cougar or a grizzly, but they can both be trained to some degree. That video you posted was faked.

@LimeyThunder You don't prove anything you say at all. You can't prove that lions are faster. You can't prove that they're lb for lb stronger. You can't prove that it would win in a fight. Just because you are biased you think lions are all powerful; they're not. Bears are built for fighting; it's just biased and barbaric to say anything otherwise. You can't support any of your claims with facts, so let's just say I'm right, you're wrong, and leave it that way.

@LimeyThunder And brown bears actually have a very difficult life. If they don't pack on enough weight before they hibernate, they will starve to death. And they have to fight several times every month for their survival, whereas lion experts say the average male lion only fights twelve times in his life. You say lions have it rough and grizzlies have it easy, but where's the proof? You give no reasoning. It's becoming increasingly obvious to me you simply want the lion to win.

@LimeyThunder I don't disregard the lion in any way, but against a grizzly, it's just no contest. Grizzlies are bigger, stronger, just as fast, smarter, they have much greater stamina, better defended (thicker hide/fur), stronger jaws (1,800 lbs vs 1,000 lbs), and an experience advantage (lions never fight bears in the wild, but brown bears do fight big cats even larger than lions). Who said anything about 100,000 yrs? The gold rush was 200 yrs ago and the grizzlies always won.

@NavyDogfish grizzlys arent as fast as lions... how can you say that. they have less experience - tigers and bears avoid each other if ever they do meet whereas the role of a male lion is to protect the pride which means they fight very often. Lets get this straight a girzzly double the weight of a lion would obviously reck it however if it only have 200lbs over the lion, the lion would probably kill it, pound for pound the lion is stronger, faster, and more ferocious

@LimeyThunder I can say that because they can both reach a top speed of 35 mph. No, pound for pound the brown bear is the stronger of the two. It's actually a proven fact that bears are the strongest carnivorans, pound for pound. Their speed is equal. The lion fights 12 times in his life. The brown bear fights many times every year, and they live much longer. The lion is more ferocious? Again, how do you figure? You can't prove anything you say at all. Just admit it; grizzly>lion.

@NavyDogfish Im not going to argue anymore because you are just so blinded by the fact that bears are big and from the same place as you. I think my opinion is more valid since i come from a country where there are no large predators therefore my views arent heavily biased because the animal is heavily involved in my culture. The Lion is the king of the animal kingdom for a reason, they are and always have been feared by humans the most for a very good reason.

I don't care if bears are from the same place as me; in fact they're something of a nuisance to people who live here. See, that's the problem. You go by nothing but your own lion-loving opinion, whereas I have waterproof evidence to support my claims. The lion is called the king because it sleeps 20 hours a day and has females do its hunting.
