If you google "Mount Holyoke College From the Desk Paula Pierce" you will be able to read a letter written by the director of the stables at MHC regarding the false accusations.
The other horse was "Class Act"... a chesnut TB mare. It is sad that both ended up in a feed lot at slaughter this past week. Thankfully they were pulled by caring people...
100 Angels you say? Your "Spellbound" mare as well as atleast one other horse that was traced back to this college's ownership were sold to the Slaughter Pen this last week at Camelot Sales in Cranbury N.J. Why don't you reward your discarded horses who work so hard for you with a kind retirement or sell them privately to homes you screen. I cannot muster respect for a college that has an equine program with no compassionate plan for their horses after their careers have ended. SHAME ON YOU.
The accusation that these horses once belonged to Mount Holyoke is not true. While there is a YouTube video of one of the horses - Spellbound - that was taken at a horse show held at the Equestrian Center, the show was an open show, and not an intercollegiate show. The horse has never belonged to MHC.
Everyone here at the Mount Holyoke College Equestrian Center is saddened by their situation as well.
We work tirelessly to place our school horses in loving homes when they leave Mount Holyoke. We have many donors who can discuss the wonderful care we give their horses when they are at MHC and the homes we find them when they leave us.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any further questions. I would be happy to speak with you to clear up any confusion. My number is 413-538-3442 .
Every brick you see on this campus is there because a man laid it there.
