im a profesional cyclist and i was diagnosed with plica syndrome today and im getting an ultra sound pin point cortizone injection tommorow....i hope it works
I am scheduling the surgery for some time in November. I have tried PT consisting of leg presses and hamstring stretches. Additionally cortizone and 5 synvisc injections. 1 year later and no posistive results. Can someone please tell me something good about their results. A lot of blog posts on this issue are not so good.

Had the surgery 5 years ago after year and a half of physical therapy which only made knee pain worse. Was forced to walk on it three hours later, pain meds after surgery didn't help. Still have major problems with knee. Pain is worse now then before the surgery.
1691chloe. A plica can not grow back, as it is part of the synovial membrane. A membrane can not regenerate itself. You probably had multiple surgeries to remove the same plica. Probably you had a inexperienced surgeon. I am an orthopaedic surgeon, and I can confirm to people who read this, that a mediopatellar synovial plica removal is one of the easiest arthroscopic surgery (10- 15 minutes). Time of recovery : 3 to 5 days with physical assistance (cane or crutches).
I had 'plicka' surgery about 12 months ago due to a persistent mild pain and swelling, mainly after riding or running. I was walking again within 1-2 days after the Op. and returned to my running program after Approx 3-4 weeks. The plicka did not show up on the pre Op. MRI and they often dont. The pain was not bad at all, tthe key is get yourself walking ASAP afterwards, it can be uncomfortable but the benefits are worth it.
I just had my surgery yesterday and have been walking today with both legs, with limited motion of course, but it feels like i'll get better very quick
i have been doing physical therapy for abt 3 weeks now and the pain is becoming unnberralbe and my physical therapist told me i need plica surgery. i am going to the doctor this week, do u think that i need this surgery?
Also, to those people who asked how much pain, it's not that bad at all, some swelling and stuff but nothing that some icing and the percoset they gave me, and then just plain old tylonal didn't take care of.
It's really just some discomfort and stiffness and it (for me) gets better everyday.
wow, you can walk and you just have the surgery 13 days ago?! i had it 6 months ago, i've been on clutches for a month after the surgery and it still very painful :/
I am having this exact surgery on Wednesday I have had a cortisone injection and weeks of physical therapy with no change in the pain so my doctor decided to have surgery instead...so we will see how that goes...
same thing happened with me except that the only reason i did physical therapy was so the insurance company would allow the surgery. Physical therapy actually made it more inflamed and now I also have a torn meniscus
how bad did the surgery hurt cuz i might have to have it im doing physical therapy right now and ive had cordizone shots but htey said i still might have to have it so how much pain
How long did it take to recover? I had my first does of cortisone yesterday. They thought it was tendonitits at first. Now he's diagnosing it as plica syndrome. I believe mine became scarred and inflamed after I had a case of Brucitis when i banged it at work.
I was in bed, no walking for 3 days, then hobbled around for another week or so. After that I have had no problems at all. I did two rounds of cortisone before the surgery. Good luck!

i had this surgery 3 times in 3 years after my plica continued to grow back. first time my surgeon ever saw it happen.
the first surgery I walked out of hospital. the second I had crutches for a week and the third I had crutches for 4 days.
Scaring is minimal. I have two key hole scars either side of my knee cap. These holes were used all three times

Needless to say I am happy with the results.... now I just need the other knee done.
