  • ..... our generation made fantastic music! i was 19 then.

  • Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll.

Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll.

  • lovely !!

  • GREAT SONG !! Nice Poppy , psycho,beaty . (Meaty , Big and Bouncy)

  • Anyone know the name of the song the band are playing in the shot at 1:14?

  • And it was actually both Eddie Hardin and Phil Sawyer on dual lead vocal duties here. In fact Eddie was the dominant vocalist, and as things would turn out, he would soon be the SDG lead vocalist as well when Sawyer left at the end of 1967 beginning of 1968. You can tell the difference...Hardin sounded much more like his predecessor Winwood.

  • great psyche

  • No, Eddie Hardin replaced Winwood. Sounded a bit like him too. Much more suited for the psychedelic era although the first Traffic album was a gem.

  • Thing I remember about the original was that Stevie Winwood did vocals on it.

  • This song came out in august 1967 and entered the NME charts in 12. 8. 1967. It reached No. 28.

Phil Sawyer was guitar player at this time. He left in December 1967. Ray Fenwick did not play on this record.

  • Thank you for the info!

  • @progmeck1 in Netherland this song reached nr 3 and stays 9 weeks in the charts , but sorry when Steve Winwood and his brother left Spencer Davis Group their high days were over , but these song deserved more than no 28 in the UK

  • Ray Fenwick is my stepdad. :)

  • I don't know how it came about, but the version of 'Time Seller' by SDG popular In Australia in the 70s was a completely different mix (to this one). Definitely the same song but with a different production that sounded heaps better to me, than this version. Maybe it was a cover by someone else and I'm confusing the two. Maybe it was a reworked version released some time after this one.

  • Slessorp:Thank you! I just got an original UK Phillips 45 of Time Seller and I thought it sounded different from the standard lp/cd version. Know I know why!

Saw Spencer at the cavern Club in Liverpool, 2006 with Eddie Hardin. An ace show although no time seller.

  • Thank you sunsetlp for confirming my ageing memory!! I swear the Time Seller I grooved on when I was a teen (that's how OLD I am) was much more upbeat and it rocked. It was my fave 4 years, yet I cd never find another copy of the original 45 I had. The B side was Don't Want You No More but the A side was the best version of Time Seller they ever did. Now I know I wasn't imagining it. TY sunset you have made an old Aussie geezer very happy...

  • Great. I'm not sure which version I like more. Love em both. Saw Spencer & eddie Hardin and got their autographs. Great show but no Time Seller. Celloist needed I suppose.

    Bob

  • To be fair, Stevie may have been a ripe old 18 when he left to form Traffic. At that time, his brother, Muff, original bassist, left to be chief exec or even founder of Island Records. Also, B side to Time Seller was a great medium tempo blues-swing cut called "Don't Want You No More." Phil Sawyer did a fine job of lead vocal and lead guitar on that. Anyone got that to post? Allman Bros. fans will recognize the opening/main riff and 'perhaps where the Allmans got it .

  • In this version of SDG, Stevie was "replaced" by two players: Phil Sawyer on guitar and lead vocal and Eddie Hardin on Hammond organ and the organ bass pedals. They had no bass player. Spencer Davis on guitar and Peter York on drums. Unfortunately, Sawyer left after about a year and was then replaced by Ray Fenwick. Fact is, you don't really "replace" Steve Winwood.

  • The irreplaceable little Stevie Winwood! Imagine having to get 2 men in to take over the parts played by 1 17 year old. Spencer Davis must have shit himself the day Steve Winwood said he wanted out.

  • @MrBobodrum Hardin didn't sing at first, which was funny because he sounded more like Winwood, perhaps that was the reason. They both sang lead vocals on "Timeseller" - Eddie doing most of it as he dominated the choral bit. Ray left after a year - and Eddie was it.

  • song reminds me of the village green preservation society

  • big beatles influence on this dont you think.could almost be a track on seargent pepper.

  • Spencer Davis himself is in one of the photographs of the original Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour booklet.

They'd stopped at his house or something (it's the photo of a big crowd standing in what looks to be a back garden).

  • Was a hit in Holland.

    Timeless '67 tune ♫

  • I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Slight correction. Eddie Hardin replaced Steve Winwood on keyboards. Eddie was with Spencer till just a couple of years ago.

PS-Davis has a new album out called 'So Far'

  • Great song!

  • Can't you just hear the basic elements of what The Move and later ELO were to take up on...

  • It hit #100 on the Billboard charts.

  • This is indeed a great song , quite different and more musically complex then songs from their earlier period. They did one more song in this style, borrowed from a Dutch group if I remember well, named After Tea; the song was named "We will be there after tea"

  • Look for After Tea in my uploaded videos!

  • Great , thanks a lot !

  • @caran26 'We will be there after tea' was 'borrowed' from After Tea because Ray Fenwick played in that band at the time. He also wrote the song, as far as I remember (can't find the single to check this).

  • Spencer Davis was one of the famous groups n the 60s,like "The Byrds" and others.

How cud anyone say,"under rated band" ?

on 1966 Spencer was at the peak of fame.

    Roundhead hair cut,due to Beatlemania...

Everone was trying to be a Beatle.

    (not a rolling for sure)

    I was 16,in 1966.

  • my poppa helped wrote someof the lyrics for this song when he worked in recording studio in england many years ago cos they could think of any thing else that rythmed in that song cos he just tolled me well my poppa

  • I have this original single (I hope). I liked this song, although I don't think it was a big hit!

  • I wish I still had mine. I was working in Percy Priors in High Wycombe when the 'reply to suppliers' order came in. The song was banned by the BBC and withdrawn from shelves

  • Banned? For what reason?

  • Comment removed

  • Another under rated band? Ive kinda heard of them before, but wow i dig them!

  • GEEEZUS - I havent heard this in a lifetime I love the Cellos - I wonder if this inspired Jeff Lynne ???

  • Yeah this is pretty psychedelic

  • I got the greatest hits album second hand back in 1972 and was pleasantly surprised at how great this non-Winwood song was!!

  • I think it was Eddie Hardin who replaced Steve.

  • i remember this song, have not heard in probably 30 years. I did not know it was Spencer Davis. I did briefly meet the gent who is lead singer in this band now, this in the lobby of a record company when I worked in Hollywood area there in late 70s-early 80s

  • some five years ago I met a man in Hastings (UK). He told me this was the last song before they shut down Radio Caroline. The man was d.j. on board. After some years I found the original single in Germany for 3 euro's through EBay.

    A great song!

    Nico from Holland

  • This is one of the greatest song of the 60's...thanks for posting it,lorjim58.

  • In my younger years I dreamed of a man whose job was selling time!! Now I'm older, and yes there is something whose selling time, day after day...

  • yeah, I love that song. I just got the album

  • time seller,great single 1967!

  • OKAY ! Rare stuff...great!
