I LOVE THIS ALBUM, people told me they didnt like the remastered version of Stuck Man, i love it like wow, personally i also love the expanded Sa Bir. Its like it starts with a similar, dark, dread-like feeling to Dum Spiro Spero and then grows into the familiar track with the bass that sounds like some giant monster breathing underwater, i honestly am frustrated right now with not knowing which album to listen to between the two, so hard to choose, anyways another great review!
Oh and i'm loving this remastered version. I feel like i'm falling in love with the album all over again. There's something about dir en grey that just keeps me interested them and they never seem to disappoint me.
@SkullJoke90 Heck no! the GazettE have matured over the decade(woot woot), demonstrating to us that they can do the impossible (becoming the greatest band in the world). Their music has evolved over the years. They are still within the VK scene and is currently the biggest act. I'm always wondering why people want them to go back to their "old" stuff. That's just quite pointless and also REPETITIVE.
@FallenAngeal i never said i want them to go back. i agree that it would be repetitive and boring. but they could go to a whole different direction. after shiver they've been on the same track pretty much so i'd wanna see them take a whole new direction in the visual scene cuz they have the potential and skills to do it. and i love them still and i like their new stuff but my favorite albums remain to be Stacked Rubbish and Disorder
@SkullJoke90 Never said you wanted them to go back back?! I'm just saying the general people I have to disagree, I'd admit that Shiver and Red were similiar but if you listen to the B tracks of each single, Naraku, hesitating means death, vermin, etc, they are very different. Are you also saying PLEDGE was the same as Shiver?! I honestly don't want them to sound like mainstream band Uverworld tyvm lol (just a joke).
@FallenAngeal obviously their b sides are totally different and over all i've been loving their b sides way more than their main songs on recent singles. their ballads are never similar to each other but their main songs on the singles are more accessabel now days and lack something in my opinion (excluding VORTEX). and god let's hope it doesn't come to gazette sounding like uverworld LOL (i like Uverworld tho). remember the urge is a good example..i feel like its been done by other bands.
@SkullJoke90 Ik what your saying. I also know the answer. Basically Ruki has composed all the singles since Shiver. Even in the Toxic he compose the majority of it, Uruha compose 4 songs. If he continues to do this, than the singles will be repetitive. I am scared that the GazettE will have an argument about Ruki being a hog. As much as I love Ruki this isn't his solo project, this is a band.
Honestly Uroboros was the last album of their's that I bought and I really didn't like it lol. I'm not sure why but I had a hard time getting into any of the songs, but I'm totally willing to give it another shot with this remastered release. Thanks for reviewing it!
Another thing to note, Shinya's drums, whilst a lot more clear in this version, do overpower the rest of the band sometimes IMO, but most of his drum-lines are awesome so I don't mind too much.
I think the new remasters are a mixture of good and bad. Some tracks got better like Doukoku, Bugaboo and Ware, Yami Tote, but others like Toguro (Toshiya's bass is way too quiet in the new version, as it Kaoru's guitar during the latter half of the song) and Stuck Man (Why is Die's guitar so quiet?) seemed to get worse. But overall it's still a solid remaster and the pro's outweigh the cons IMO.
Bugaboo Respira is a nice prelude to Bubaboo and Hydra-666- is nice to have on the album.
I love the new version. Uroboros is my favorite Dir en grey album and I think they solidified that top spot even more with this release. Before, on some songs you could barely even hear the vocals in certain parts (especially backing vocals) and this remaster really helped that out.
check out Galneryus, they have a new mini album this week I think? Don't really like power metal and that but a few of their songs, like Kizuna, their new track, really sound pretty good to me.
i enjoy both lol. But in actuality i'm really not a nit picky person when it comes to this band so i pretty much enjoy anything that Dir en grey releases, but I kinda feel like this band cant be told "Hey your fucking awesome" without it sounding like your an artist critiqing art.. which is sad.
Dir en greys best albums will always be vulgar and withering to death. This new stuff really isn't all that great. I'm not a fan of the down tuned guitars. I love their more melodic sound from their sound back in 2003-2005. Think back to some of their all time best songs, Kasumi, Amber, GARBAGE, Machiavellism, none of their new stuff can even come close to these tracks. Still love them but it's sad that the old sound that got me into them is gone.
@addictedtragedyx It's kind of funny that you mention Garbage, which is probably one of the least melodic songs off of Withering to Death. I mean, it does have that melodic vocal line from Kyo, but then again so does Juuyoku, which is probably Garbage's equivalent on Dum Spiro Spero. My point is that if you really pay attention to the progression of Deg's sound over the years, it really isn't that startling.
I will totally have to give this a listen now. I want to hear the difference you mentioned with the distortion. Will be anticipating your reviews every weekend now! Keep it up! Good luck this semester as well!
Uroboros is what The Darkside of the Moon was for Pink Floyd...

I like how we now have the 2 sides of the coin - the 2 sides of UROBOROS. I think I do prefer the Remastered though. Slightly.

Now GazettE seems to be doing the same thing what Diru did... i'm having mixed feelings about that. What do you think?
