The FACT that there have been many warmer periods than today - consigns the theory of anthropogenic global warming to the dustbin. For example, the Jurassic Period, Egyptian warming, Minoan warming, Roman warm period, Medieval warming and probably many more that we do not know about in the ages gone by. Temperatures are therefore well within NATURAL VARIABILITY and therefore nothing to worry about whatsoever. I would sooner favour 4.5 bilion years of natural climate change than the past 30!!
Senator Boxer showed herself to be an ignorant, close-minded, arrogant person in this exchange. "It doesn't help your case" to behave this way, senator.
Seems to me she is just doing her job (trying to wrangle the truth out of some one who is very reluctant to deliver it). Imagine if James Hansen were being interviewed: "Have you published any papers on the issue?" "Yes, dozens." "Have they been peer reviewed?" "Yes, all of them." "Have any been challenged by anyone with any scientific credibility?" "No, only political hacks." He is actually too polite to use words like this.
This woman would not let Dr. Gray talk and had she, she would have lost miserably. He said "Dr. Hanson was an Astronomer" then she said he was trained in physics and astronomy which is not meteorology. And it sounds like she doesn't want to hear the other side. Her time is running out was her excuse. She would have been destroyed if he talked further. Thats politics. She's disrespectful with cuttin him off like that. Let the man talk.
I don't know what was stated earlier...if anyone was maligned or not...But Boxer's behavior and treatment of this older man is horrible...Dr. Gray is very opionated but does not come across as arrogant about it...Just passionate...
Boxer is one of my Reps...and I am ashamed to see such horrid disrespect given to an elderly gentleman...
There's rotten people on all sides of the political spectrum...It's getting smart, caring people in that we need...

Barbara Boxer is great! These comments make me laugh. A peer-reviewed paper means it stands up under scientific scrutiny from a peer group of scientist. This "scientist" is a fraud, but then if any of you inbreds went to college, you might know that.
Actually, If you had taken the joint out of your mouth in college and taken a pre Historic archaeology class you would realize that global warming cannot be stopped by man. Global climate change is a natural phenomenon that has had countless times throughout history. It will continue to happen. Should we change and lessen the impact we have on the environment. Of course. Should we try to stop global warming. No, because we cant.

I've never felt it necessary to smoke a joint. And yes, it may be too late to stop global warming, but that doesn't change one basic comforting fact. You are stupid and nobody cares what you have to say.
You are rediculous! To not be in the mainstream means you aren't educated? Of course the mainstram scientists are going to crack this up and denounce a skeptic...the funding/policy depends on it!

No, I'm being R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S. Learn how to spell so you don't look so stupid. Secondly, what do you mean by "maintream?" Perhaps if you didn't fail grade school, you might have learned that a big part of being a good scientist IS being a good skeptic. That is, never accept facts on faith alone, including their own. Global warming deniers are only "skeptic" of others but drink their own cool aid. The science is crystal clear on the matter, global warming is real. That is all, folks.
Sorry, but the science on "global warming" is anything BUT crystal clear. There's a SLIGHT warming trend that's been occuring over the past 30 years or so. How much of that is attributable to man (and how devastating this warming is) is NOT clear.
Also, evidence suggests that there have been PLENTY of other periods in history with greater warming than today.
Furthermore, many of the warmer periods in history are associated with cultural and economic prosperity.
Admittedly, global warming is a complex issue, state of technology is not yet at a point where science can decisively prove correlation. It does decisively show is SOMETHING happening that is not in recorded history, will directly result to catastrophic sea level rising.
But beyond science, a better answer is to LOOK at the people on both sides of the issue - WHO they are, their track record of claims on other subjects (i.e. politics). You find deniers a wretched, fail-prone scoundrels.
Um...not really. A lot of skeptics are people with respectable scientific credentials, certainly more reputable than people like Al Gore.
As for the claim that something is happening that's "not in recorded history"...you're technically right, but that statement doesn't say much. Technically, what's happening in my room right now is an occurrence that's not in recorded history. That doesn't imply that it's at all significant; likewise with this slight warming trend.
Global warming SKEPTICS and DENIERS are different people. A skeptic is someone who questions and listens. A denier is someone who shuts down and ignores.
Former is healthy and important. Latter are not scientists, they are paid windbags who are wretched, disgusting beings.
And Al Gore is a political figure, but the ENTIRE scientific community is on his side. What your side got? Crackpots, wingnuts, and mediocrity. Have some self-awareness, admit you're too lazy to understand science.
I like your distinction between deniers and skeptics, but I must respectfully disagree with your assertion that the "entire scientific community" is on Al Gore's side; simply not true. There is an extensive list of scientist skeptics on wikipedia.
Look, I have no intention of keeping up such a (frankly) frivolous conversation going with a total stranger on the internet. I have better things to do with my time and I hope you do as well.
aren't you shutting down and ignoring ppl by calling them "carackpots, and wingnuts".
You say "have some self awareness, admit you're too lazy to understand science" - what exactly are you're credentials?
What do you know about science? How can you assume the predictions you support are accurate when no one in the present will ever know what will actually happen.
Foolhardy policies built of predictions and assumptions don't provide answers only bigger problems.
@hkjghfgh Am I shutting people down by calling them idiots? Aha, yes I am. You see, I dont care a flip about convincing anyone. Seriously. If you're a truther, birther, denier or part of the tea party, you're far too stupid to convince of anything and too useless to anyone else to make any difference to society.
Seriously!
What credentials do you need? Why don't you look at validity of my arguments and decide for yourself? Make an effort.
That is a performance worthy of a nazi kangaroo court. What a truly repulsive woman. Her objective was clearly to intimidate, bully and ridicule a logical rational argument put forward by a gentleman. What has happened in America for women like this to be able to behave in such a stifling manner?
This woman is on drugs? She is so nervous about the subject matter ( look at the pencil-twiddling !!). Peer-review will mean nothing, if people are too frightened to speak the truth. "Peer-review" is becoming the new fascist attack ......
It is typical for a person that has no leg to stand on to try to over talk the opponent. Here Boxer would not shut her pie hole long enough to let the man answer. What a C-nt
People like Boxer (whether they be Rep. or Dem.) are making this country go so quickly down the tubes. Look at how fixed this thing was? Complete disrespect for someone who has so many more qualifications to speak on this subject than probably anyone she will ever talk to or about. This man is considered one of the leading experts on climate not just in the U.S. - but THE WORLD. What a disgrace. Oh and one more thing, Boxer has the nerve to tell him HE is not humble?
NASA's Michael Griffin is a good counterpoint. To claim he was "trained" in physics and astronomy and that makes him a capable meteorologist, more so than one of the world's most successful meteorologists, further proves she's no concept of the differences in the fields of stud. "It doesn't make your case to demonize..." why don't you pose that statement to yourself and try to answer it? She's using intimidation and third grade debate team tactics to speak over the points Gray's making.
I'm disturbed by boxer's comments. She does'nt want an honest and open debate. Gray and Crichton bring up valid points but boxer already has her mind made up. I wonder if she is linked with those corporations that try to sell you fake carbon credits.
What the hell kind of third degree b.s. is this? The woman is afraid to let poor Gray get a word in edgewise, yet she has time to make all kinds of commentary and tell stories about her mother? How come when Gray starts to string more than five words together the woman suddenly has no time?
What the hell is wrong with this woman?
